A beacon of hope by LordLJCornellPhotos A beacon of hope by LordLJCornellPhotos
Time for another shot of the MV Dayspring. You may remember I have become quite fond of this boat on my visits to the Scottish Highlands. This is a late afternoon shot with the sun lighting her up as the clouds roll in behind her.
This boat was left stranded on the shore during a bad storm some time ago. The tide has never been high enough since to re-float the boat so it remains stuck on land rotting away. It is near Corpach, across the water from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands and you can see Ben Nevis in the background.
The boat is called the MV (Merchant Vessel) Dayspring and she foundered on Dec 8th 2011.

Here is some of her history

This shot seems more pleasing than the other...
...seems more HD, and better light...

The other one was edited to look like a film shot from the 1970s so the colours are muted. Also it didn't have the light of this picture. That's why they are different.
Im glad you like them anyway :D
I have taken many pictures of this boat so I do edit them in different ways.

I love all your shots of the MV Dayspring. The colours are just so pleasing. Rust photographs well. Especially in that light, and with those dark contrasts of the background. Gorgeous, Lawrence!

The boat would make a nice shelter to camp out in for a few days. Or move into permanently
Great shot and backstory

What a splendid picture!  Though the boat isn't as much ruined as I would like....I'll wait for 3 or 4 years of winter rain...
  May I try some drawings?

Another great perspective and really nicely composed as always :).
I was just reading your other comment about the 12 hour drive there. Quite a drive but getting there it is half the fun Lawrence. For me, when I take a road trip, is not the destination that excites me but the things that I would see along the way. That little detour sounds like winner .

Thank you Yadi
The problem with that journey is you are driving through the highlands to get to Skye. You honestly would never get there if you stopped along the way. There are too many reasons to stop all the time.
The drive is part of the fun for me too. I love driving. The detour sounds great and I will do it next time I am just going to the highlands for sure. When I am going to Skye though, I just want to be there

 Too many reasons to stop. I like the sound of that! :D You go there a lot it seems. There's only one place that I could go as much and that's home .Were you born in Scotland?...;)

Hahaha
honestly, you could stop every hundred metres. you'd never get anywhere
No, I wasn't born in Scotland. I just love it. I especially love the Isle Of Skye but I feel totally at home there in that wild landscape.
I live near London. There is no space down here and when you do find some space it is flat. There are no mountains.
Whenever I get the chance I head North into Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland, North Wales and Scotland.
I am going to get back into travelling further now though. Iceland first.
You know when you find somewhere you feel you are a part of? Well that is Skye for me.
I never want to leave.

London sounds like Florida. Flat.
I was kidding about Scotland :giggle:. It was a good question though, I wasn't born in Puerto Rico, so you never know! :) It is great that you feel that way about such a pretty place . Iceland!? When are we going!?.

I love this shot. :)
By the way, is it just me or does Ben Nevis actually look kind of small (as in "not high") in almost every picture? Even in reality, when I saw Ben Nevis for the first time, I was like "Excuse me? Whom are you trying to tell you are the highest mountain in the UK?" It's possibly because it's so flat on top, what do you think?
Oh, and when you go to Scotland again this summer, in case you drive up the A82 to Fort William, you should consider stopping by "Corran" on your way. You can park the car and just take the ferry over to Ardgour by foot because it's free for pedrestians. The ride only takes about 5 minutes, and in Ardgui, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, there's another stranded old fishing boat like this one. We sadly didn't have the time to take a closer look, so I can't tell you if it's as impressive as the MV Dayspring, but since it's just a tiny detour, maybe you should check it out. :-) Ardgour also has a pretty light house and a cozy pub with delicious homemad soup, it's very creatively called "The Inn". :D
