My Bio

For the past few years I have spent my spare time travelling to different parts of the UK to try to get to know my own country and its people better. Photography is my passion. I hope my pictures tell the story I want to tell.

Please respect my right to my images. If you want to use them for any reason please contact me first and ask me. Otherwise I retain all copyright to all of my work.

Please fave as many pictures as you like. I appreciate all of them. What I love is comments. Please leave comments. I will always reply to comments.

"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of others" Charles Dickens

“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.” Don McCullin

“I think about photographs as being full, or empty. You picture something in a frame and it’s got lots of accounting going on in it–stones and buildings and trees and air – but that’s not what fills up a frame. You fill up the frame with feelings, energy, discovery, and risk, and leave room enough for someone else to get in there.” – Joel Meyerowitz

It is a time for adjustment here right now. At the weekend the clocks went back an hour so, suddenly, it gets dark by 5pm. Initially this makes me feel like hibernating for the winter. Luckily this doesn't last long, only a couple of days, and then I do my winter wake up thing. I do love winter. Certain normal things are different in the winter than they are in other seasons. Going out to eat is different. It is a very different exerience and feels like it has different goals. The lights from the windows of the restaurants are welcoming as is the warmth of the building and the smells from the kitchen and gentle noise of voices chatting. The music is low and soothing and there is a cozy feel that you just don't get in he summer. The night brings down a dark curtain and the lights from the cafes and restaurants along the sides of the cold streets offer a refuge which is a feeling you just don't get at a different time of year. It feels odd to attribute these senses and feelings to

Something is very wrong here at the moment. I keep getting a SNAP error page come up which is stopping me from making my journal/feature today. If I can't do it today I don't think I will have time to do one this month as I am going away in a week. Very frustrating. Anyone else getting this page come up? It comes up when browsing too. UPDATE I always use Chrome as my browser for dA as it has always worked best for me I have just managed to make my journal on Firefox so I guess there is a compatibility issue with Chrome at the moment.

I thought I would share with you my GPS trace of my recent visit to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) which is an island off the North East coast of England in Northumberland. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway that is only open at low tide. When the tide comes in the road gets covered and the island is an island again. It is the most amazing place with enormous historical significance. It was also the first place in the Britain to be attacked by the Vikings back in the day.
