Puzzlemaster’s Origins by MoonKnightFan101:
Quentin Naston was a prodigy, being a genius level intellect at the age of 7. Having a drunkard father made his life difficult, because his dear-ol' dad hated and ridiculed him, while preventing his son from ever becoming smarter by hiding his books around the house. However, Quentin was a clever boy, so he managed to find the books and got thrill from the search, and ever since, Quentin was obsessed with quests and puzzles. This went on for several years before Quentin got into University, where he and his partner Julie invented a holographic device which would revolutionize communications. During the development stages of the device, a man named Gorman kept trying to get Quentin to sell the right of the invention to him, an offer which Quentin refused. During the demonstration of the device to the dean, though, the device malfunctioned. Quentin subsequently accused Gorman of sabotaging the device and decided to get vengeance years later by tricking Gorman's employes into selling their company to him and booby trapping it with deadly holographic puzzles and traps, turning the house into a perpetual death trap. While trying to survive his house of horrors, Gorman called the police, a call intercepted by Dark Claw and, his apprentice at the time, Night-Spider, who went to the house, saving Gorman. Quentin escaped, inspired by the heroes’ appearance. Hoping to increase his chances of success against Dark Claw and Night-Spider, he changed his last name to Enigma and donned a new identity... as The Puzzlemaster.
Both characters belong to Marvel and DC respectively.
