My one crit is that the idea that he's out on a plank at right angles to the hull doesn't read fast enough. I think it would with some spot shadow (I know you thought of that and executed it with the hatching . . . but it's not clear what that hatch is about because it does not conform to the shape of the plank. Could be anything, random texture, for example, like the texture of the hull.)
Oh yeah I know what you mean, pretty careless composition on my part. If I had probably moved the horizon line a little bit lower the plank would've been more apparent. It made sense to me because I knew what I was looking at and I was being pretty rigid with the perspective. Thanks for the words, really made me re-examine the art.
