A Dangerous Hitman by Lonzo1 A Dangerous Hitman by Lonzo1
Flattop Jones Sr. was in my opinion one of Tracy's most deadliest foes.
Known as a freelance hit-man for the mob...Jones made a reputation of being an expert killer and has locked horns with the law many times but always dealt a failing blow at the hands of Detective Dick Tracy...
Time and Time again Jones tried to kill Tracy ending with failure until fate sent the deadly killer to a watery grave as his attempt to escape Tracy failed after getting trapped between two struts of a replica of the Santa Maria causing him to drown proven once again you might run from the law but in the won't escape justice.
But the legacy of Flattop Sr. didn't end with him.. Over the years Tracy dealt with two of his off-springs....His son Flattop Jr. and His Daughter Angeltop...Both joining their father in death.

Flattop.... A deadly killer and one of my favorite Dick Tracy villains. One deserving his own fan-art......Enjoy.

You should see his wife, Stiletta. :)…

There was also his grandfather (apparently a law abiding citizen) "Poptop Jones"*, and the hitman's unrestrainedly angry brother "Blowtop Jones".

*The grandfather was so upset thinking of Flattop he would say he did not like to mention his name.

Flattop: the best villain ever created for Dick Tracy

Personally, even though people might say otherwise, I don't think he's really dead

B.B. Eyes and Mumbles (twice) came back after their apparent death, which was drowning (coincidence?)

Flattop's "ghost" was probably the ghost of his son Flattop Jr. (if I'm right that Flattop might be in hiding, alive)

It's very possible that he could be.....Maybe Joe and Mike might cover that in future strips.

I know this is an old comment, but considering that today is the 70th
anniversary of the demise of Flattop Sr. and the fact that nothing has been
said I'm thinking that Flattop has been officially been deemed long dead.

The only way I think that Flattop will ever come back will be if they decide to:
A: bend the laws of physics like they did with Mumbles apparently.
B. make it so that the guy who drowned wasn't Flattop, but rather yet another
twin who had conspired with Flattop in his plans.
C. make it so that Flattop had a near drowning so that he suffered some
brain damage which would explain why he hasn't been seen since.
D. reveal that the newspaper with Flattop's obituary was actually faked for some
reason, and Dick Tracy for some reason and a few of his law partners have decided
to keep Flattop still being alive a secret. '

In other words, it would be nice if Flattop came back, but I just don't see it happening.

or they can try to clone him... like they apparently did moon maid.
Emeowrald Featured By Owner May 15, 2014
True, but I don't think that would count. A clone is a clone. It
may look like and perhaps even act like the original, but is not the original.
And if I remember correctly Moon Maid wasn't exactly cloned. What happened
was that a regular girl had surgery done to look like Moon Maid.
A clone would be an exact genetic copy of the original. Even though Moon Maid #2 looks
like Moon Maid #1 she has different DNA.

Since Flattop's been dead for many years it would be uncertain that viable DNA could be
found. The would probably have to see if there was any in one of his teeth or perhaps in
some bone marrow.

Now an interesting thing would be is if it turned out that Stilletta's actions were due not to
her own will, but to Flattop possessing her like he had with his brother Sharptop. That would
be a pretty unexpected twist.

Never read Dick Tracy comics (never availible where I lived) but I know some of the characters and every great hero needs a great villian.
