Description
Hey all! Here's a new piece - gonna take a quick step back from environments and try doing a more action-based scene.
I was scrolling through some epic music videos in youtube when I chanced upon one that featured an image of a lone knight facing a huge-ass monster in the distance. Something about that picture plus the music in the background really made me want to paint something similar. I decided to give the painting more of a lava, or fire, inspired theme, since I haven't done much of those before. Plus, I got to play around with more "VFX" elements (similar to my Godzilla piece) such as flying embers falling flaming rock chunks - you know, just the regular stuff that happens around you as you face off with a giant, re-animated being encased in armor emerging from the depths of an erupting volcano.
The process of this painting was also pretty quick (for me, at least) - I started of with a rough sketch before working with layers. Something new I did in this piece was creating a "lighting plan" before I started - meaning I actually decided where the light sources (such as key light, bounce light, rim lights) were coming from before actually starting to render (something which I was always to lazy to do in the past). That, coupled along with some careful layer management made this painting progress a lot quicker than usual.
I hope you guys enjoyed looking at this piece as much as I did painting it - thanks for looking!
