Title comes from this Silent Hill 4 fan video: youtu.be/o1W49Zk1hUU
Silent Hill 4
is one of my all time favorite PS2 games. I don't have the original case, so I decided to make my own box art. The idea for the artwork itself came from my bestie, who suggested having Henry and Eileen encountering Walter on a staircase. This was a fun little project and a good exercise in graphic design as well!

I found it kind of funny when both Henry and Eileen were mauling Walter repeatedly. Henry with an axe or sledgehammer and Eileen with some depraved sex toy.

The controls were atrocious though.

I've always felt it was pointless to give Eileen a weapon because it slows everybody down ESPECIALLY when I'm trying to get away from all the monsters, and it just injures her more anyway. Though like you said it is humorous considering the weapons you can equip her with. And I agree the controls left something to be desired. I miss the tank controls from the previous three games although admittedly they were not the best either.

The comments on those "weapons" were also hilarious: "Looks extremely painful." It was like you could turn Eileen into a BDSM domina.

And yeah, I read you, the controls were a pain. Sometimes you didn't even have an idea what was their layout in certain locations. IMO 3 had the best controls since you could steer using mouse and strafe with side keys. It was far from FPS controls but probably best of all Silent Hills.

I love the concept of SH4 too. The execution could've been better (I tried playing it and found the controls too wonky), but I still like the concept of a (not) safe haven. Your artwork is marvelous and I love the colours. Walter, the blood splatters, and the hole in particular looks so good.

Thank you so much! And yeah, I agree. There were some gameplay issues (my biggest annoyance was the inventory system) but still a great concept overall. I still have creepy dreams about SH4, none of the other games get to me the way this one did.

Yeah. Nothing terribly specific, but they usually revolve around being trapped in the apartment, encountering Walter, etc. The whole concept of claustrophobia and being watched really hits home for me, which is probably why it creeps me out more than the other SH games. My desktop wallpaper is also a screenshot from the game, so I suppose it's always in my mind to some extent. Wink/Razz

Encountering Walter has to be the scariest thing.
For me, though, the scariest thing has got to be the apartment you're supposed to be safe in being a haunted hell.

Did you encounter the rare Victim Henry haunting? What's the ending you got on your first playthrough?

Haha I know right, I remember I screamed after Walter caught me off guard once. Always an 'oh crap' moment when he appears... And I totally agree. It's that sense of dread you get from having to return to your "safe" haven, knowing something horrible is probably waiting for you there. It really takes away your sense of security and always leaves you feeling on edge.

I did get the Henry haunting at a few points and I thought it was pretty awesome, though the tv and Walter portrait hauntings spook me the most. I got the 21 sacraments ending on my first playthrough, but I've gotten all the endings since then. I've played the game so many times through the years I've lost count.

how exactly did he "catch you off-guard?"
Were you ever someone else in the dream? Like, for example, you were Henry?

I know, right? I've been there, so I'm like "oh My LORD. ugh."

You HAVE? oh my lord that's just awesome. Remind me about the TV one please? I kind of know about one portrait turning into Walter's face...
How did you feel when you got what's basically the worst ending? What was the hardest part of getting the best ending? Was it Eileen, or the hauntings in the apartment, or?
Do you still play it now?

I was in the apt. world 2nd time and I forgot that Walter was in one of the rooms. Totally freaked me out. Doesn't help that he's invincible. And when I have SH4 dreams it's usually a mix of my own POV as well as Henry's. Like I'm playing the game but it's actually happening to me.

Also, the tv haunting is where it displays static and occasionally a face flashes on the screen. When I was a kid I hung a shirt over my tv bc I was paranoid I'd see a ghostly face in it. So when I got that tv haunting for the first time I turned off the PS2 like nope that's enough for today. Had the same reaction to the Walter portrait haunting, freaked me out too much.

I pretty much just accepted the bad ending since it was my first ever PS2 game that I actually beat, and I was happy to finish a game for once. But I followed a walk through and wanted to get the other endings. The Escape ending wasn't too difficult to get, although it makes the final boss super intense because of the time limit with Eileen. It is pretty annoying keeping her safe throughout the game, her AI sucks.  And yep I usually play the game almost every Halloween just to get into the spirit. My sister makes fun of me because of it haha

Henry and Eileen look a little younger than they are in the game, but this is still very good. While there was some miss opportunities in SH4, but I've never found it to be as bad as some people try to make it out to be.

Thank you very much! I agree, there were some issues, but the game gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's the only game in the series that legitimately creeped me out.
