What a big difference for Jon Pertwee. From the All knowing Doctor, expert  at everything, to the know- nothing Worzel. But i've heard he really enjoyed playing the silly scarecrow?

Yes, I think Pertwee enjoyed this role even more than the Doctor, dispite the make-up chores.

He also seems more than a little flirty, but that might just be Mr Anthony Ainley's default expression ... :D (Big Grin)

I'm sure Ainly was a flirt, but this Master is supposed to be Roger Delgado :)

I always thought that Mr Delgado had brown eyes, hence my identification of The Master as played by Mr Ainley - though one may be mistaken!

You're absolutely right! I shall rectify that.

Well then you're a better man than I - one would be tempted to claim I'd meant to depict the Other Fellow all along!:D (Big Grin)

Until you introduced me to his previous work, I wouldn't have gotten this, but I do and that expression by the Master is a perfect response. =P

Don't know if Worzel Gummidge ever made it to the US, but he's pretty big in the UK, Australia and New Zeeland. What an extremely useful education you're getting here on DA! ;) (Wink)

When Worzel starts changing his head for other models, things get especially confusing.

I think it's in the books the TV show is based on. When you read it in a text it seems fine, but when it's shown on film it can be pretty creepy!

It sounds less creepy in text?

The Worzel Gummidge books have the logic of fairy tales, and like most fantasy kids books -like Oz and Alice In Wonderland- what's written and seems OK on the page can look creepy and scary on film.

But a lot of fairy tales are suppose to be creepy, if you go by the old tallings.

I actually thought Anthony Ainley was more sinister, and therefore more effective.

he is more nightmarish when he was a leapord, those eyes, those teeth and that howl!! It would given the parents nightmares

I had never heard of Gummidge until now. Now wouldn't that be ironic...the Master defeated by a scarecrow. Wink/Razz

I think Worzel Gummidge was probably Pertwee's favorite role. He couldn't regenerate, but he could swap out his heads :)
