The Evils of Anton Arcane by Loneanimator The Evils of Anton Arcane by Loneanimator
A lot of shit is thrown at Wes Craven's 1982 "Swamp Thing", but I actually enjoy it. Here are two monsters from the swampy weirdfest.

This is actually my favorite Craven film, with New Nightmare being a close second. Arcane's transformation and rampage scared the atoms out of me as a child. I just wish Louis Jourdan could have acted through this silly get-up because his charisma is what made the character work.

Good for you! This film needs more supporters.
The Arcane monster was actually played by two people; first by stuntman Ben Bates, and then, when he suddenly fell ill in the middle of shooting the fight in the swamp, monster maker Bill Munns had to crawl into his own creation to film the end and death of the Arcane monster.
But, sure; it would've been great fun to see what Jourdan would've made of the monster character.

Swamp Thing is a totally cool monster flick, if nothing else. I do wish we could get a new adaptation though that took itself seriously and was based on the new representation of Swamp Thing; The peace-keeping Nature Elemental.

A new movie grounded in Alan Moore's psychedelic interpretation of the Swamp Thing saga would've been, well, trippy!

All and all, I thought Swamp Thing wasn't bad at all. :) (Smile)

For its time, it's a pretty swell movie. It is what it sets out to be: A comic book-y monster movie.

As I recall, the two best special effects in Swamp Thing belonged to Adrienne Barbeau! ;P

There is going to be a Swamp Thing tv show that will air on the DC Digital platform they are going with. No idea what it will be though. Sort of wish I had gotten the whole series of the 90's tv show though when it was in print on DVD :( You can still get the first 2 vols...but not the 3rd. Sucks.

Anyhoo, this looks awesome as always. It's certainly an odd movie for Wes I will say. Though I think I am more drawn to the outlandish absurdity of the sequel more though. The costumes for both Swampy and the monster did look a lot better though.

Here's hoping you tackle some really obscure 80's gems like Blood Beach one day :)

The monster effects for "Return of the Swamp Thing" are much better than in this movie, but the script is completely inane.

But that intro with the comic scenery and "Born on the Bayou" playing... a guy could get a punched after watching that and it wouldn't hurt, LOL!

And... Heather Locklear. Heather Locklear... I could just keep saying that sexy name over again.

I actually saw the movies in reverse, Return first and then Wes Craven's film afterward. When I saw Arcane with the sword it stumped me as a kid because I kept thinking, "Why does a monster need a sword?", but then it hit me that Arcane was still intelligent and evil and would bring a weapon along with him for an unfair advantage. Nowadays, we've had these Underworld movies with the Vampires & Werewolves wielding all manner of weapons, but it was a real kick back then and to remember now that moment when the monstrous Arcane was running around with a big sword.

Well.. Let's say my feelings for "Return of the Swamp Thing" are lukewarm. If I turn off the sound during the dialogue scenes, I'm fine with it. The monster effects are very cool.

I actually read the DC comic book adaptation of the "Swamp Thing" movie before watching the film. I'd say the comic adap is really good, better than the movie :)

Swamp Thing fights machine gun-toting mercenaries, Louis Jordan turns into a scaly sword-wielding pig-bear monster, and Adrienne Barbeau goes skinny dipping in the bog. So, lots to look at, in other words :)

I loved the movie, the tv show and the cartoon as a child. Of course, I was born in '82, so I wasn't at my most sophisticated when I first saw them...
