Krull! Another favorite movie. Believe it or not, I was lucky enough as a kid to see this as a double feature with Yor, the Hunter from the Future. It's hard for a kid to sit still that long, but I didn't move for almost four hours. I guess they never produced toy plastic glaives because it was a lawsuit waiting to happen, but I wanted one so bad. Also, slayer laser gun-swords.

I don't think there were any Krull toys at all -but there should be. Even Dune had toys for cryin out loud! I think it's time for one of those modern geek-oriented toy companies to do some Krull toys.
You can buy a glaive plastic kit, which looks absolutely ace when assembled and painted. But last time I checked up on it they were sold out, and the kit mold was being remade. I'm keeping an eye on that development.

That's cool^^
Yeah Super 7 should get on Krull now that their are literally vintage Star Wars style 3 and 3/4 in figures for everything, like even Mechaneck.

I saw this though, what I think is a custom

I will see the Rifftrax live broadcast of this in the movie theater next month. The three jesters will have a good time with it, yeah, but I will ride the nostalgia bus all the way through, as I saw this in the theaters back in the day. Good times. :)  Krull was sort of like a D&D adventure made into a movie, with monsters, spells and spell-like abilities, supernatural divination, magic-like tech, a magic weapon, and a guy failing to escape a death trap because he insisted on retrieving his dagger!

There are rumors (I guess you could call them) that Krull was originally intended as a sort of D & D movie, entitled The Dragons pf Krull. There is production art made by the Hildebrandt bros showing The Beast as a more dragon-like creature.

I could definitely see that as an early version before the budget limitations kicked in and it was decided to raise the sci-fi embellishments some more.

All the score for Krull is amazing. My favorite movie score, actually.

You can't go far wrong with the late, great James Horner - especially when he isn't borrowing from himself too liberally - though I'm not sure KRULL is my Special Favourite of all his scores (that would probably be THE MASK OF ZORRO or THE ROCKETEER, but Heaven knows there are other possibilities).Nod

I like early, playful Horner. There is an unbridled, bubbly quality to the Krull score, which I think is unsurpassed.

"Krull" is an excellent old school fantasy, and it's got one of the coolest fantasy weapons; the "glaive".

Wow looks great. Better than you see him in the film lol. Which actually didn't bother me that much. The movie is really nonsensical, but in a good way. Loved it as a kid, and appreciate it a ton as an adult.

I love "Krull", mostly for its concepts such as the giant spider, the firemares, the sad cyclops, the slayers and the glaive (of course). But the world the movie presents seems a bit.. barren. I get the impression that the only ones left alive on the planet after the attack on the castle are the people we meet here and there in the movie.

It's the standard low-budget fantasy movie population base ration of 1 person per 20 miles, like Wyoming or SE Ohio. =P (Razz)  An early bit of dialog does indicate the Beast's Slayers have been busy trashing villages and fields and forcing the human population to flee before them. (The Beast cleverly crashes the wedding that would have united two kingdoms against him.) I suppose one could make the case that most of the movie's story takes place in the vacated lands, the same way much of LOTR takes place in formerly inhabited wasteland.

He had a thing for coughing up glowing blue balls. Might be a leftover from an earlier concept when the Beast was supposed to be a dragon-like creature.

Awesome work, you can actually see it better here than in the movie.

Yeah, I did a bunch of research on the suit built by Nick Maley and his team. There are some photos here and there of the suit when it was being made. It's actually quite an advanced construction, but they didn't really use it all that much in the movie.

It was not like they didn't use it enough, it was more like they filmed it in some sort of Blurry vision.

Yeah, they used all sorts of distortion effects, and often shot the suit backlit.

He doesn't, but in the pre-production concept he was actually supposed to be some kind of humanoid dragon, and in those designs he had wings.

Cool! Have you seen the movie: X; the man with X-rat eyes? He discribes in the end of the movie an eye in the center of the universe, who is (if i understood right) surounded by colors (The Colour from outer Space or the Deadlights, maybe? 😏)
If so, will it be any chanse that you could illustrate this eye? 😮

Yes I have seen "X-The Man With X-Ray Eyes", and it's wonderfully weird at times. The eye at the center of the universe is certainly a cool idea for an illustration -very Lovecraftian! :)
