Sinbad Packs a Mean Roundhouse by Loneanimator Sinbad Packs a Mean Roundhouse by Loneanimator
When I showed "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" to an older friend, he was pretty baffled by Sinbad's martial art skills.

I thought Patrick Wayne made an admirable Sinbad, loved this movie.  You mentioned these creatures were kind of cute, I think the cutest creature, even though a bad guy, was the homunculus in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.  I actually felt sorry for it when they killed it with the arrow.

The homunculus is cute, but also kind of creepy. It's sort of an extension of Koura's mind.

Totally did not remember that scene! Which makes me wonder if something got cut for TV. Or maybe I was on the can when TCM was showing it? Hmm.... (Admit it Zeo my man, you remember everything with little Jane, the sorceress, and damn else.) Heh, the one who grabbed the stick turned out to be the best one! And all those ghouls did better fight work than some real live humans I've seen in the period epics recently. What does Hollywood do anymore, shoot all the fight scenes in 2 days and then use stupid camera tricks to cover up the sloppy work?

This is probably the most dynamic scene in the movie, and Wayne does a great job of selling the fight. I'm not a fan of modern fight scenes. They may be very well choreographed and performed, but I'm not seeing any of it since it's edited to death. One series of films where you actually can see what's happening in the very well made fight scenes is The Raid movies, where the action is a joy to behold (if you're into that kind of thing).

It's on DVD, with eBay being the best chance of picking it up nowadays.

Clearly your chum isn't very familiar with the astounding number of things that have made a spirited effort to kill this old Sailor-man then!(there must be SOME reason they keep failing, after all).:D (Big Grin)

It's the hard school of life -even for ghouls!

I like the horrified skeleton creatures you've got going on here, particularly their eyes. Yikes! This pirate guy knows how to fight! :) (Smile)

They're pretty cool critters, but, unfortunately also quite cute.

Yeah, I didn't know what the heck they were. Their cute chirping made them kind of non-threatening to me.

Growing up, this was my favorite scene from the movie.  At the time, most everything else went right over my head.
On a side note, I wonder if decapitation would have worked, or if blunt force trauma was the only thing that could put them down.

It's the most solid confrontation between actors and puppets in this movie.
I'm guessing they can't really be killed, only sent back when their temporary corporeal bodies get too distressed.

"Dude man! Watch out!
"Whoa!" Did you see that kick!"
"He's going all Chuck Norris on you!"
"Wait...?...Who's "Chuck Norris? "

Well, that's what happens when you hire non-union fire ghouls for a Harryhausen flick.
Honestly, his parents will be so embarrassed.
:disappointed:

AH!!! You did it so fast lol! You know...it wasn't till I got a lot older did I realized that the guy that played Sinbad was one of John Wayne's sons. So weird. But I thought he did a good job. The scene reminds me of an older Chuck Norris film haha. But if I remember...he does do like 2 roundhouse kicks to these things. I think the 3rd one had some sort of dwarven like ax.

But yeah, your image looks awesome. Thanks for doing it :)

When they're outside, fighting in the night, Sinbad spins around and delivers a close-up kick to one of the ghouls that's right out of "Ong Bak"! It'd take down any guy. I'd guess that those skills were on Patrick Wayne's CV, and that's why they were included in the movie. It's a weird, but cool addition.

Harryhausen himself said that the movie was kind of thrown together, though it took a couple of years to shoot and finish. The choice of weapons for the ghouls was kind of odd, I thought. One of them just has a stick. Why not a spear?

Anyway; I'm glad you enjoyed my take on this scene :)

Ah, more Harryhausen. I always saw these things as some kind of lower demon but really loved the skeletal bodies and huge jewel-like eyes.
