Apparently 5th Doctor Peter Davisons least favorite Who monsters (from the serial "Time-Flight.")

Yes, I can understand his lack of enthusiasm here, though the painting itself is good. :) (Smile)

I sense some sarcasm in this  title. :)  the Plasmatons were a true low point (of several) in antagonist design. For Peter Davison the show tried some new types of story, and the final product didn't always follow through.

In my opinion, the era of John Nathan Turner as a producer had too many bad ideas in too many areas.

Peter Davison's tenure had a real collection of hits and misses. Half the season would be interesting and even adventurous at times, but the other half would be mediocre and ultimately forgettable. Fortunately the Master and Black Guardian were around to keep the pot stirred. :) The Cybermen and Daleks made only 1 episode apiece, but they were excellent & memorable episodes.

The worst stories, I think, are the ones who want to be science-y, drowning in techno babble, and with plots you need a map to follow.

I have to give credit to Extra Credits for decrying technobabble as a device. That being said, technobabble is fun in certain settings like Star Wars and Doctor Who where Science! has dumped all sorts of fun stuff out there and future tech is both common and strange. (I'd still like to know what hydrospanners do though.)

It's not one of the best known ones, or one of the best appreciated.

Well, it's a matter a of taste, I guess. I find it confusing and badly made at times.

It looks like Peter Davison is thinking, "Really? THESE are the Monsters for me? Talk about scraping the bottom of the Barrel...".

That was kind of his reaction, as he has related it in interviews and commentaries :)

Happily, he did get some better stories. I think his  last serial, "Caves of Androzani", is one the very Best Dr. Who stories, ever. I also liked Planet of Fire for Peri's bikini scenes! ^^

I also like Davison / the 5th Doctor in "The Five Doctors."

Me too! I think by this serial, Davison was finally getting used to being his own Doctor.  Didn't hurt they were reducing all the Companions. Personally I think the Doctor does best with just ONE. The Doctor with Sarah Jane, or Jo, or Leela. The Doctor with Rose or Martha. There are exceptions, natch. I like any story with the Brigadier!

I would've liked to see Davison in another season; I think he, at this time, was coming into the character properly, as you say.
Unfortunately, Davison was ill served by some pretty confusing or unengaging stories, and an entourage of mostly whiney and negative companions.

Yeah...Sometimes I think they were just messing with him. He kept getting into some dumb stories, boring ones like the King's Demon's or ineptly done ones like Warriors of the Deep.  The Myrka?  And then Resurection of the Daleks.  I saw a version where they left out the SPFX and sound effects, and it was just so terrible, with people running around firing cap pistols....

But that was such a tedious story...Plasmatons. Walking chewed bubble gum.

It's a very confusing story, as many were in the Davison era. Why the heck was the Master disguised as that Asian wizard-thingie??

I don't know... I can barely recall anything about it,,,Or Kinda, or Snakedance, or Mawdryn Undead.  Super boring stories.  No wonder Dr. Who was being considered for termination.

Oh no--not the Bland Doctor! :P

Sorry, that was mean...I know that Tom Baker was a tough act to follow, but to me Peter Davison is the dud regeneration; where is the delightful eccentricity?
Wearing a celery stalk on your lapel is simply not enough.

I quite like Peter Davison as an actor, but his tenure on Who was mostly disappointing. I think he's OK in "The Five Doctors", though.

His comments on the Doctor Who DVDs are very funny, and he has no illusions about the quality of the episodes.

The Five Doctors has his best line: "I'm not the man I used to be...thank goodness!" :P

It's simply not very well made, with quite a confusing story. But the DVD commentary by the actors is hilarious!
