Watched "Robocop" (the original) the other night..
The sitcom segments were a master stroke in the meta-story. They said so much about the movie's version of the USA, and Murphy's own family life by contrast. Gotta say though, the old guy is living the dream, circa 1988 cable TV.
Yes, Bixby Snyder seemed to live the good life!
To my sorrow, I do not remember this scene!!
It's a segment from a very bad TV show that pops up throughout the Robocop movie. Apparently, all citizens of future Detroit think it's side-splittingly hilarious.
What would he buy for two dollars?
I haven't seen the original Robocop in years. Guess I'll have to do it again.
Definitely do it!! Although it is an Eighties action film cranked to 10, the movie has aged better than I ever expected. It is even rather prescient in a few things as well.
I love the movie's attitude! So very ballsy
The ballsy attitude was missing from the sequels and the remake, which was proof that sometimes you can't do it again. But then everything really came together; the TV shows and commercials, the unappreciated police, the absolute SOB villains, the gentrified corporate city absorbing the combat zone, the industrial wasteland, the cyborg cowboy, all great stuff. When the Cyberpunk and Shadowrun RPGs came out we were ready for them!
They made a whole industry of stores based on this model, the infamous Dollar store~!
I've even got one not far from where I live, in Sweden.
Well if it isn't Bixby Snyder! Awesome work on the character here!
