The monster-filled 1st Doctor 1965 serial "The Web Planet."
AKA "British kaiju planet".
This being the 1960s one is mildly astonished The Doctor has not assumed the proper "Here's one I bagged earlier!" pose with any of these beasties!
I remember that arch, it was good
It's a crazy and bold production. All of it doesn't work, but what a brave and exciting show!
ah the first doctor he was cool
He was actually quite different from later Doctors. He was quite mercenary sometimes.
It's a great portrait of the classic First Doctor. I always wish to learn more about him. I've always had a soft spot for Big Bugs, too. "The Deadly Mantis" and "Them!" are two of my favorites...oh, very fond of "The Black Scorpion," too.
It's hard to go wrong with a big bug monster movie. Even if the effects aren't that great there's always a general creepiness to the critters.
What about those grasshoppers in Beginning of the End?
Well, there are a few exceptions..
True. remember the dragonfly larvae in Rodan?
Did you see "An Adventure in Space and Time," on the BBC?
Yes I did, and I loved it! I thought it was a great dramatic, funny and moving retelling of the Who beginnings. I've got it on DVD.
You other Doctors can't deny...
The Zarbi. the Menoptera. Spent a bunch of money on this one!
Apparently it wasn't very popular at the time of transmission. But I think it's looked on more favorably now.
WELl, it was a pretty weird and exotic episode with so many utter non humans. Wonder what a return visit to Vortis would be like , now that they have access to decent special effects and stuff?
