Story - 533 words 

Anjelica had arrived early at the track it had been a long travel for them both she often worried that the constant ravel back and forth between Ireland and the US would take it's toll on blackbeard but he mostly seemed to enjoy the chance of scene and the weather was certainly an improvement. 

It had been a while since they were last in the states Blackbeard had ran the triple crown  he had only achieved 3rd and 4th place  but had managed to beat many other experienced horses and at that stage he was quite green.  Anjelica unlatched the trailer door pulled down the ramp attached a leadrope to his head collar as soon as he stepped front on the ramp his ears pricked up  and he head his head high taking the new scene in the sun was beating down, Angelica hoped that the temperature wouldn't effect his performance. 

After taking a walk around the grounds she got him set up into a stall  "Whats he been like today?" Anjelica looked over her shoulder in surprise at hearing the familiar voice "Oh Dmitry why didnt you tell me you were flying over" she said surprised at his presence "Well how is our boy then? did he travel well he certainly looks pretty full of energy" "Eeh you know we got held up back in ireland but everything after that went pretty smoothly as for today well he is being a little difficult hes got his mind set on other things if you know what i mean" Angelica looked back at Blackbeard who was holding his head up high top lip pulled back as he sniffing the air as  a mare was led past "I just hope he doesn't waste all his energy before he gets to the track let alone the distraction they'll cause" Angelica sighed "Mhmm it does look like you will have a fight on your hands to keep him focused then again you never know maybe he will put all his effort into the race as a means to show off, you know how much he likes to be the center of attention " Dimitry replied giving the stallion a pat on the shoulder. 

The weigh in was complete and the race was soon to start Blackbeard had continued to act up as he went around the padock but that was behind them now it was time to enter the starting gates, normally a task in which the stallion would prance about in an attempt to go anywhere other than the gate  but this time he walked in confidently with a swish of his tail, head held high and ears pricked. Anjelica gathered the reins doing a final check to make sure everything was correct taking her time to whisper some words of encouragement Brrrriiinnnggg! the bell went off and the gates lurched open with a clatter suddenly blackbeard and Angelica were launched forward as the stallion lept from the gate and onto the track the crowd cheering the thunder of hooves the snorting from the horses  seemed to urge the stallion on he had a steely look of determination in his eye, he was on a mission.
