Story 572 words 

It was the morning of the race clouds were gathering overhead as blackbead was walked over to the stalls his ears pricked up when he recognised  the surroundings letting out a whinnie his pace picked up and he began to prance alongside his handler.
There were some familiar faceson scene today including WBS Ghost Hour, WPF Apocalypse and WBS Moves Like Jagger. He stood in the stall attempting to show off to the passing horses when he saw Ghost hour he called out to her but was promptly ignored. " It's okay boy you'll get plenty of attention out on the track" Anjelica said as she patted his neck the colt nuzzled her, he had  started  to broaden out his neck beginning to thicken his legs looked less gangly and long in comparison to his body  than when they had when he first entered the show circuit, but it was to be expected he was almost four now he had matured greatly over the last few months. "Hey beardie my lad" said a familliar voice Blackbeard looked up noticing Lord Rupert Hargrave  approaching  he snorted and shoved his face into his pocket " No, I don't have anything for you, you will have to wait till after the race " He laughed as the colt looked up disappointing realising that there was in fact no treats. Anjelica had left the stalls area with Dimitry  for a last minute talk over today's plan she was feeling confident Blackbeard was quite content running on a right handed track and the pair had past experience on this particular track that some of the other horses and riders  had not.


Rupert stayed with the colt  "You've certainly turned into a fine man, haven't you?" he said as he checked over Blackbeard making sure that there were no obvious signs of injury form their travel "and you'r manners on the whole are pretty good for a colt your age though don't think i haven't noticed you trying to get the attention of the ladies back home or when your at the track" he chuckled. " You know this track and you know most of the other horses don't stay focused and try not to get distracted i know you love to show off  and please please please don't make a fuss at the loading gate i know they're cramped and scary but you have had a lot of experience with them now. anyway im sure i don't need to tell you all this just stay focused and you'll be sure to make us all proud" Rupert said to Blackbeard giving him a prep talk before the race. He wasn't too sure if any of it went in but it certainly made him feel a bit better to get it off his chest.

The horses were loaded into the gate and awaiting the bell, the sea of people in the grandstands cheered in anticipation. The cates crashed open Blackbeard stumbled out getting knocked by one a horse close to him "Oh shit" Anjelica said as she felt him loose his balance she thought he was going down for sure. suddenly she felt almost a surge of energy as he managed to get his footing and avoid the enivatable he was the last horse now right at the back but a determination could be seen in his pale blue eyes as he began to catch up with the sea of horses up front
