deviantART Presents:
Many thanks to our tour sponsors:
About DivX (www.divx.com)

While researching the best technology options for displaying film on the web we identified DivX as the technology company of choice. The visual and sound elements built into "This Binary Universe" stretch the limits of audio and video.

In order to provide the best possible user experience with the download we wanted to  maximize the audio with MP3 Surround sound and the dvd quality video in order to capture the jaw dropping visuals. DivX's technology offers both superior audio and video quality while also providing great compression.  This combination is unmatched by any other technology company. So, we invited DivX along on the tour and they were so excited about the idea that they agreed to go a step further and become a sponsor!

About MP3tunes (www.mp3tunes.com)

A high definition file with MP3 surround is a big file to download even in the day and age of broadband (180+ MegaBytes!) So we went down to San Diego to get the scoop on MP3tunes and their Sideload service.

Founded by the guy that brought you the old school and awesome MP3.com, MP3tunes allows you to Sideload content in to your music locker over the web. By clicking the lime button up top, you can Sideload the content to your own personal music locker. Once there you won’t lose it ever again and you can take it with you anywhere! MP3tunes has support for home media systems like TiVO, various PDA’s, cell phones and even the Nokia 770 tablets.

About Red Swoosh (www.redswoosh.net)

The question still remains; how do you download a 181MB file with extremely high efficiency as quickly as possible for viewing? We tested the Red Swoosh client and we bought in to the hype. Using the most high end P2P technology available from the engineers that brought you Scour.Net back in 1998-01, Red Swoosh rightfully claims download speeds that are several times faster than Bittorrent while also allowing a quality streaming experience for all of you with ultra-fast broadband connects.

This isn’t the first time deviantART has worked with Red Swoosh. Back in 2001-2002 during the so called Bandwidth Crisis of deviantART, Red Swoosh came in and saved the day for a time. Since then the technology has evolved by leaps and bounds, and we’re excited to try out their new enhancements.

This is P2P on steroids, kids!

Tour Info

The inventor meets the pioneer in the worlds first sonic duel as BT and Thomas Dolby set a course for virtual supremacy. BT is a pioneer and innovator of modern electronic music, who is currently pushing the boundaries with This Binary Universe, a DTS release, creating unique soundscapes seamlessly blended with digital art visuals.

Thomas Dolby is a living legend, blinding us with electronic science back in 1982 with the seminal "The Golden Age of Wireless".

Now, prepare to be overwhelmed with an array of audio and visual wizardry as these two innovators perform live for you, accompanied by widescreen high definition film presentations, with impeccable digital sound mixed in 5.1 live on-stage for 21 performances beginning November 28th through December 22nd.

“BT is a modern master,” says Thomas Dolby about his on stage counterpart. “He has broadened the scope of electronic music with new studio techniques [that] most producers can only wonder at.”

Godfather Thomas Dolby will be performing solo with a bank of high tech computers, , a collection of vintage oscilloscopes and signal generators, a military headcam and antique radio operator earphones strapped to his head.

“The audience seemed mesmerized by Dolby’s compositional and musical dexterity…Far from coming off as strictly a nostalgia act, the evening unfolded as a celebration of his past …and a harbinger for his future as a revitalized performer.” says the Chicago Tribune.

Deviants Take the Stage!

In addition to this already spectacular event, we now bring you the proverbial icing on the cake.

At each of the 21 venues across North America, 30 local deviants in each area will be invited along with a friend to have their artwork shown on the massive on stage projection screen at the venue. Courtesy of deviantART!

That's right. Deviants will have their art displayed live as a part of a 30 minute pre-show leading up to the beginning of the show. That is close to 600 artists whose work will be shown in 21 venues across North America. The invasion has begun!

How is this possible?

We reached out to three great technology companies who we thought were interesting for deviantART, BT and Thomas Dolby and for different reasons. In alphabetical order:

  • DivX

deviantART Presents...

To say that we take pride in offering over 600 deviants the opportunity to have their work shown in this way is an understatement.

This tour is a next step in our evolution as a creative community. Presenting BT and Thomas Dolby in 21 locations across North America is only the beginning of how we envision the future. We will continue closing the gap between the online world and the offline world till there is no distinguishable difference.

We are looking forward to seeing you across North America, and for the deviants in Europe and Asia, Australia and South America ... we're thinking of you next and we'll be there soon.

deviantART Presents... the future. This is the ride you have bought the ticket for, and it has no seatbelts.

Peppermint-Biscuit's avatar
There is no way to unfave this, is there?
jisuk's avatar
I was thinking the same thing. I asked the help desk about it and they ignored me.
Peppermint-Biscuit's avatar
The Help Desk provides!

Unfave it at this link: [link]

Looks like you just had to ask nicely. :D
jisuk's avatar
Actually, I tried that ages ago and it didn't work. They said there's a "lag" and I have to wait, but that was literally a week ago. It and one other article are still on my front page.
Peppermint-Biscuit's avatar
Well-- oh crap. You're absolutely right. It's still on my page too. AUGH.
Peppermint-Biscuit's avatar
Dammit. All 781 people will forever be stuck with this old news letter on our front page. Talk about poor layout design. I think I'm going to send a notice to the help desk as well (even if they ignore me).

Gold proportion = 1,618033....
Gold proportion = 1,618

233 / 144 = 1,618
377 / 233 = 1,618
610 / 377 = 1,618
987 / 610 = 1,618

Ø = (1 + √5)/2 = 2cos(p/5) = 1.61803...

Sunflower : 89/55=1.618
DNA : 34/21= 1.619

And Now!.. Where is the gold proportion?
