Harry Potter Comic 04 by Loleia Harry Potter Comic 04 by Loleia
I know it's not exactly "HA HA" funny, but everytime I read the Harry Potter books I can't help but think that they wouldn't need to spend so much time in the school library or investigating around if they had a nice laptop, an internet hook-up and access to a wizarding database lol!
Then again, if they could solve all the mysteries by Googling them, the books would be boring as hell. Hence the comic ;)

Other good moments I could've drawn (but was too lazy to): in GoF a way to pass the first and second tasks (especially the second, they went mad looking for that shit!), in HBP they could've Googled Eileen Prince's ass and discovered she was Snape's mom...

By the way, I DO know that electronics go hay-wire around magic, especially with the amount of it there is at Hogwarts. This is just a comic, it's not meant to be accurate ;)

I like this... but Google didn't exist in 1991. Nor did Wikipedia. The web did... it was turned on that year! Harry would page Sirius in 1997 -and Hermione created a magical version of those that same year. That laptop didn't exist in 1991 either. Never mind the price tag... several thousand dollars for less processing capability than the cheapest smart phone with a handful of MEGAbytes of space.
But the biggest question is this: HOW did someone get a phone line into Hogwarts? Necessary, of course, for dialing up your internet connection...
Incidentally, Google STILL didn't exist in 1997 when HP was first released in Britain.

I always think the EXACT same thing. Now...who has it easier, Muggles or wizards? (BTW, penseives and Invisibility Cloaks actually exist now due to cutting-edge technology, it's in TIME magazine.)

No gadgets are allowed in Hogwarts ground, Hermione said that in the fourth book. They couldn't have a possibly computer there.

Quick question: Is it only me or did you really intend to draw Harry with his scar on the left side of his forehead??
Just askin :3

It took a while, but Hogwarts does finally have computer access.

I actually really like the three were designed. I can tell you based their looks off the descriptions in the books rather than the film actors. Good move, and great art! I look forward to seeing more by you. :3

ok, so have you realized that in the books all the wizards say that us muggles are way less advanced and think that we are lower and stuff but really our methods are way more efficient XD

Most of that information is probably only one the internet because it's from the Harry Potter series. In the Harry Potter universe, that information might not be on the internet, especially if it's supposed to be secretive like the Horcruxes. They do spend a lot of time researching though so the internet might be useful. The only problem is that the great reveal of some of the information is an important part of the plot line (like a mystery) so it would probably have to be written differently. I also think it would've been a good way to learn about depression and PTSD (there's even information written specifically towards teenagers/about how it affects teenagers) that would help Ron and Hermione understand Harry better and finally get him some help (as soon as they can find a psychiatrist in the wizarding world, yeah good luck with that guys.) I'm little worried about Harry though because a depressed, traumatized, possibly suicidal teenager having access to internet could end badly because it might encourage self-harm and suicidal behavior. There would probably also be a lot of porn researched (Ron's would probably largely include women that resemble Hermione.) I'm not sure how complex the internet was in the 90s though.

Try: the WWW turned on in 1991. Google was born in 1998. You had to dial up internet in 1991. Or use WaveLan, which still required cables. And Harry should be using a pager, not the internet, to contact Sirius. Or, you know, the mirror phone Sirius gave him that he NEVER OPENED until it was too late.
I really want fanfics where Harry opens Sirius' gift...

I was born in 1991 so the internet has existed since I was born. By the time I was old enough that my parents would let me on the internet, it was already pretty complex so I don't know what it's like to be without the internet. Harry's an idiot, that's why he doesn't open Sirius' gift.

I was born in 1991 too, but the internet as we know it didn’t exist then. It reached that form over the course of the 1990s.

well the novel was supposed 2 take place in 1997 when the Internet wasn't fully matured or if u like evolved as it is now yet. And considering how the wizarding world tries 2 b secretive 2 the muggle world & also them being somewhat old fashioned, i consider them as a sort of technophobic type.

1991, actually.

lol I was just thinking yesterday that any student who managed to make a sort of wizard version of wikiedia (e.g. like the riddle diary, you write the word you're looking for and the answer appears on the parchment or something) would be the biggest hero at hogwarts ever.
Celeb132 Featured By Owner Aug 7, 2015
the instant messaging would've been so good for ootp :((((((((( *heart breaks over sirius*

Even if they DID have wizarding internet finding the definition of the horcrux might've been difficult to find as hardly anyone wrote about it, so it would be like the horcrux was in the vast depths of the internet...  none the less would still have made everything a helluva a lot easier!!
Kingsdaughter613 Featured By Owner Jul 31, 2017  Student Traditional Artist
They DID have instant messaging... Harry just never opened his pho-mirror. And muggles had pagers in 1997, which Hermione essentially recreates with her galleons that same year.

Funny thing is that J.K. Rowling herself messed up her own timelines with tech, giving Dudley a PS1 before it was ever released in the UK.

'Dem sneaky wizards using time travel magic to steal our Muggle ideas before we have them.

So... The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire are the only ones that could not have been a lot shorter with the help of the internet?
phineas81707 Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2015
Well, the driving force behind Prisoner of Azkaban was that the facts were wrong. Any database would say "Sirius Black, notorious mass murderer, killed thirteen people with a single curse, betrayed his best friend to Voldemort, etc", so they wouldn't exactly help.
Goblet of Fire... well, it might have been a good idea to Google some info on surviving dragons, deep water and mazes, but it wouldn't have been a real help, really.
