Aloy - Horizon Zero Dawn

So happy to finally be able to share this! It's some early concept art of Aloy, the lead character of Horizon: Zero Dawn. I worked on this character together with the rest of the character team for a few months in 2013. It was a huge honor working with Guerrilla Games and their inspiring, talented team. I loved working on this character! These images can be seen in this neat featurette about Aloy:… as well as in the artbook that comes with the collector's edition of the game!

I love these drawings of Aloy, the hair colour is so vivid and paired with an amazing style, someday I will draw great hair too!

Haven't played the game yet (curse you PlayStation exclusive!), but I've watched one of my favorite YouTubers do a 'lets play' and absolutely love the character design! Amazing work!

She looks much cuter than the aloy we ultimately ended up with.

thanks! I do think the final result is better suited to a tough and strong fighter.

It's an honor to find in the community a member of the artistic team of HZD. I love the game and visually it's a source of inspiration. Thanks for helping to create this great character.

I also saw this artwork in the Art of Horizon Zero Dawn.  It was part of all the concept artworks for Aloy.  I bought the Art of Horizon Zero Dawn after playing through much of the game itself recently.  A very majestic and visual experience throughout so far in terms of the characters and colors.

your most welcome - I frequently purchase the Art of type books for video games because I like to see how the artists develop the look of the game and whatever else might be in the same books.

God. The art in this game is just beautiful and Aloy's character is just as beautiful.

Woah, looking so great, she looks quite younger like that, and she's lovely, love the center one, with this hairstyle and face she's cute but also feels combative ! :happybounce:

Such an enviable plight—to be a fanartist who can no longer call their works "fanart" because they're now conceptual. To be the originator …

What never ceases to fascinate me is how often I find how small the world truly is from an artistic standpoint at least. What I originally perceive to be fanart of something turns out instead to be actually concept work for something I'm well familiar with, such as the respectful game to which this piece belongs. The people who work on games and movies and things like that seem so distant to me, as most often I only receive the finished work (aka the dvd or the game), but then I happen to stumble across things like this. It may only be small and fleeting, but there's a certain ounce of true magic that happens during moments like that :D Now whenever I go back to whichever respected mediums, I can say 'I know somebody now who was involved in making this'. Truly remarkable.
