some of you might have seen this post on my tumblr but for those who haven't here's how i think the level sequence in sonic: lost world might go down
9/19: the deadly six and TGS trailers have provided us with enough info for me to make corrections and clarifications, annotated in bold
to start off let’s assume we’re working with the same structure as sonic colours (i.e. 6 zones 6-ish acts a boss at the end of each and a final boss to cap things off) (somewhat correct looks like we will indeed be having six zones with an extra final one somewhat similar to death egg/true area 51/terminal velocity i'm assuming)
we would start with an opening cutscene ala unleashed. it would establish the status quo of the game and get players geared up (assumedly it’s in CGI and spectacular and shit, going by the brief shot we got in the gamescom trailer) (CORRECT... the one shown is fucking incredible at that i mean wow did you see that lighting)
then the game proper starts and we get another cutscene, as we did in unleashed. this one is a bit less invigorating but it would still serve the same purpose as the first
now the levels themselves begin:
- a brief tutorial stage like unleashed’s because this feels like the kind of sonic game that would need one. gets players used to controls and some of the game’s new mechanics
- windy hill: most stages revolve around running on and through the grassy tubes with the giant windmill serving as a centerpiece. we have to assume at least one stage will be vastly different as FF and DR have both shown us so let’s say that it in particular will be in a circus, since there was a tent shown in the zone’s map. i’m probably wrong. at the end of the zone you fight zazz; some or all of his attacks involve the giant yellow ball he’s seen to be holding at times (CORRECT. looks like he's using stars as an attack as well)
- a cutscene with amy, knuckles, and possibly eggman leads us into…
- desert ruins: most stages revolve around running through the desert and eventually the large temple, that serving as a centrepiece. we already know that the vastly different stages are the candy one and the tree one so no need to elaborate further. at the end of the zone you fight zomom, since he seems to be among the weaker of the six; some or all of his attacks involve eating (oh god i’m getting sonic x flashbacks) (wrong... he uses his weight to form tornadoes and try to crush sonic but he doesn't seem to actually be eating while doing so)
- assumedly the cutscene where sonic fucks everything up will play, followed by another cutscene in which he and eggman form a team to stop zavok. this leads us into…
- frozen factory: most stages revolve around running through… well… the frozen factory, with that serving as a centrepiece. the different stage here is the casino level though i get the feeling there may be another one. at the end of the zone you fight zeena with some or all of her attacks involving the billiard balls seen rolling around the first stage
- another cutscene with the crew, leading us into… (somewhat correct... she uses a ball, but it's a spiked ball attached to a laser whip (wow the uses that could have) that you have to pirouette over to avoid)
- yet another cutscene, this one having a bit of story development assumedly, leading us into…
- tropical coast (i think that’s what the name is) (confirmed): most stages revolve around running through lost hex’s beaches and ocean, with the weird tubey thing serving as a centrepiece. (somewhat correct. the tube does seem to be a centrepiece level on its own but the trailer showed other ones more) no clue what the vastly different stage will be here probably another factory level since we’ve seen glimpses of it in trailers and some pictures. at the end of the zone you fight zip (master zik) with some or all of his attacks revolving around his cane. (wrong... he's using fruit ffs) i’d like to believe he balances on it in a tide pool while you try to knock him off (hey if it worked in survivor it can work here) (i guess this is somewhat correct since while we are knocking him off we're doing it in the air and not the water)
- silent forest: most stages revolve around running through the forest and swamp. i have no idea what the different stage will be though my gut feeling tells me it’ll either be a cave level ala hidden palace or a temple stage like sandopolis act 2. on that note judging by the shot in the colour power trailer (the one in which sonic rhythms past ghosts) it will probably be a temple level. (i guess i'm correct? there is a level that seems to be taking place in a temple but we have no idea if it's a regular one or just lead-up to zor's boss fight) at the end of the zone you fight zor with some or all of his attacks involving either the shadow clones he’s seen making in the gamescom trailer or the owl robots. it would be hilarious if he used the owl robots. (CORRECT, on both counts at that)
- one more cutscene- this one will definitely have a twist of some kind- leading us into…
- the as of yet unnamed fire level (we now know it is called volcano mountain): we know jack about this stage, though judging by the others’ using elements from other games i’m going to assume it will involve volcanoes, lava, puzzles, and tricky jumps. the different stage here might be… um… an eggman base? god knows we haven’t seen one of those in a while. (seems like it will be. a brief CGI snippet showed some sort of shower gun, probably eggman's, hanging over a cliff face) at the end of the zone you fight zavok with some or all of his attacks involving lava and tricky jumps. (i dunno if we'll be fighting him here but we ARE having a fight with tricky jumps and dodging so)
- then another MAJOR cutscene. i’m not sure how the end of the game will play out since i’ve heard on the grapevine that super sonic is returning (and he probably will) (CORRECT. in both versions of the game at that) so let’s just say this will involve zavok getting tired of sonic and eggman’s shit and summoning all of the other deadly six to stop them. this leads us into…
- a final boss: if other sonic games are anything to go by this will feature projectiles, giant robots, “helpful” tips from sonic’s friends (knuckles and amy are the only old characters not in colours to show up and from what i saw of amy it seems like she will at least be trying to help), and a pinch mode. yes the final boss has to have a pinch mode. it would be soo coool. i want to believe that the deadly six will merge into a massive monster which you’ll have to take down while dodging said projectiles and giant robots (possibly correct... all of them pilot robots of some sort so it would be cruel not to have them team up gatchaman style) while ignoring said “helpful” tips but i’m probably wrong again
- at this point i guess if you haven’t gotten all of the major shit that you’re supposed to get (like the chaos emeralds or something) (seems to be the chaos emeralds since they sit very cozily in the HUD) the game ends. however, if you have acquired them, you’ll get another cutscene in which eggman realizes the deadly six have been pacified (since sonic beat the fuck out of them) and takes control of them once more. he jumps into a mech and (this is pure guesswork ladies and gentlemen) harnesses the power of lost hex, causing the planet to begin collapsing and forcing sonic to go super mode to try and stop him. (seems to be correct, judging by the scene where lost hex(?) is getting something sucked out of it... god i HOPE this is correct) this will end things off in a…
- true final boss: just like the DS version of colours and both versions of generations, assumedly. eggman flies away from you while you try to catch up, dodging obstacles and collecting rings to replenish yourself. there will definitely be a pinch mode here. i want there to be. the boss will be complicated as time eater but with time and patience you should be able to stop him.
- aaaand then you’re done. humorous final cutscene, this one probably CGI, and roll credits. i have no idea where the NiGHTS DLC will show up but in all odds it will probably be a side thing that can be completed at any given moment, as casino night was in generations (this is probably true they're not making such a big deal about it)
