I love South Africa. My love affair started at birth - I was born just a stone throw from where I now live. My first breaths were flavored with diesel and Jacaranda and even now, that unique perfume holds a special place in my heart.
But SA is not without its problems. Art remains undervalued, especially graphic art, animation and comic books. There are far less studios in SA and because of this, many of them take advantage of artists. The big guy and I are lucky - we run our own small, moderately successful studio (consisting of...you guessed it, the big guy and I.) But this comes with challenges. Local clients can take up to 3 months to pay and then there's the...power issues.
As a developing country, SA sometimes has issues with its basic utilities. Load shedding means that there are frequent power cuts and sometimes there's problems with the water supply. As you can imagine, no power has devastating effects on one's schedule.
But despite this, our studio is still potting along and my comic still updates regularly. If you want to throw a couple of dollars towards candles and bottled water (or more realistically, pizza and beer), you can mosey along to my Patreon
However, if you don't wanna, then I'm happy to take comments instead of cash. A nice comment on an art piece in my gallery or the comic itself is enough to brighten up my night
