Shortages

 

Brookclan had been hit with a bad illness and a shortage at the same time. And Brookclan's main weakness was its members' immunity to disease, or rather lack of. The kits were the first to get portions of fresh kills, though that ruling hadn't stopped a certain warrior from leaving portions to the apprentices that were her children.

Warblerpaw opened an eye as he laid sick in the den with his siblings and Juncopaw in time to see the familiar tail of his mother as she snuck out of the apprentices' den. In front of him, he noticed the small mouse his mother had clearly left behind for him. No doubt if he looked to Tawnypaw or Shadowpaw, they'd have some sort of small prey near them to eat about waking up. He'd smiled before giving a weak cough, scrunching his face up in slight pain. Early leaf-bare was going to be a pain for them all, but at least they were all looking for each other. Well... almost all of them looking out for each other. He huffed to himself at the thought of his father.

It felt like almost everyone was sick. The kits, the apprentices, all the warriors, everyone. He laid his head back down, not ready to get up to eat or even eat when laying down. Maybe he could ask Salmonpool if they would focus on trying to find more herbs for everyone. And maybe ask his mother or Cloversplit more about herbs. He'd have no wish to ever be a medicine apprentice, but learning more about how to help heal everyone and what certain herbs they'd need to be ideal. "Strive to do the best you can," had been something his mother said once.

So he'd do so. What harm could there be striving to be the best warrior in his future?
