FAQ (update)

Living For The City is a moderated group that focus on high quality urban photography. We are looking for photographers that are truly dedicated to the urban story regarless of genre.

The groups guidelines as far as submissions are concerned are as follows:

-No pornographic artwork
-1 submission per week
-Do not resubmit an image if declined (unless advised otherwise by a staff member)
-When we're looking through submissions, we're looking for well composed images with the urban story in focus, we may decline if we find the artwork not meeting these standards
-Images should be of reasonable quality and resolution
-Make sure you submit to the correct galleries (see below). Photos submitted to the wrong gallery folder will be declined.
-Photographs must be city-related
-We will generally reject any images which we deem to be 'over-processed', remember that the story should be in focus not the thrill of after effect. And we do not accept snapshots of any kind.
- In general, we do not accept watermarks, except those that are positioned in such a way that they do not interfere too much with the experience of the image. Photos with watermarks that obviously is about marketing, such as web addresses and such, will always be declined

Which gallery do I submit to?

If in doubt, look at the other works submitted into a gallery. If you can find a gallery with lots of similar stuff then give that a shot.

Cityscapes - Urban landscapes, a view of a large part or a whole city. This gallery is closed for submission, only admins can suggest photos to the gallery.

Street - Candid photographs of people on the street (not people living on the street!), up close and personal. Generally these photographs will be of a specific person. No homeless people! (See photojournalism!). Homeless people; poor or sick or both are more than exposed as it is, so we will not accept any surreptitiously shooting with telephoto lenses of those already so vulnerable, unless there is a purpose that goes beyond exploiting the already exploited. But still photos of the more journalistic characteristic belong in the “Photojournalism” folder.

City Life - Similar to street photography but takes into account the environment and all of the people in that space, not just one.

Photojournalism - Anything which you might find in a newspaper or on the TV. Examples include homeless people, riots, event photography and so on. Must be in an URBAN ENVIRONMENT!

People - People in urban areas - the person should be the main focus. These images are not necessarily candid and can sometimes be out of context.

Long Exposure - Where a long exposure (shutter speed) has been used, often capturing streaks of light, flares and ghostly figures.

Architecture - Structures, indoor and outdoor. The building or part of it is the main focus.

Black and White - City/Urban/Street photography in black and white. Sometimes a black and white photo may want to be put in a different gallery if it is definitive of that genre. If so, feel free to submit it outside of this folder.

Transport - Vehicles in urban areas, the vehicle being the sole focus

Graphic Mode - Images focused on the graphic aspect of imagery and of urbanity; images where the aesthetics is used as the main tool for telling the urban story.

Urban Conceptual - Images that focus on the surreal or otherwise have a conceptual approach to urbanity and urban life.

Happy submitting!
