Toast

Toast, whose real name is Tobias Grabstetter, had a pretty relaxed life as long as he stayed in the closet.

Toast is a trans man.

Even as a child, he was more of a tomboy, and his interests always tended in the direction of his male classmates. Back then, his parents accepted their daughter's tomboyish behavior. However, when it didn't stop with the onset of puberty, and Tobias also wanted to shave his head, arguments became frequent. His parents' expectations clashed repeatedly with his self-image. In one particularly difficult argument, he finally snapped. He wanted to be a boy. At first, his parents refused to grant this wish and stood in his way. But when they realized that his dysphoria and their rejection were pushing him into depression, they made the only good decision of their entire parenting – they sent him to a psychologist.

After moving out of his parents' house into a shared apartment, years of therapy, and overcoming several bureaucratic hurdles, he was due to undergo bottom surgery (even though it is less common, he opted for this procedure to be done first due to dysphoria and other factors). His roommates didn't know he was trans and had only perceived him as a tomboy. He had also lied about his hospital stay. However, complications during his recovery revealed his surgery. His roommates were furious - some because he had lied to them, others out of deep-seated transphobia. Before the next rent payment was due, they kicked him out. As a result, he had to drop out of university and lost his government funding. He didn't have the strength to take legal action against his roommates and lacked the courage to ask his university for help.

Since then, he has spent many nights on the streets and in shelters, where his trans identity repeatedly caused problems, because nobody knew how to classify him. After a year, he met Rosi by chance. She gladly took him under her wing and introduced him to Shelly. He became a permanent member of their group, and as a trio, they try to manage their daily lives. While Rosi suspects something's strange about Shelly (he's a seer who is haunted by a ghost), Toast is the one who starts helping him take action, reaching out to another seer/ghost-medium.

Toast still has periods where his dysphoria is very apparent, as he no longer sees any possibility of top surgery. However, his friends, and especially Shelly, are there for him as best they can and accept him as he is.

(I hope this comes across well in the drawing, but I tried to make Shelly's eyes a little red, as he might have consumed a bit of broccoli. hihi)
