I have a dear friend, who did not believe that there was such a thing as a Hedge Apple. I was in college, and we went to a store, where I noticed a plastic Hedge Apple, and i told her that there were these real ones, and that I had a tree back home that dropped them all the time. The little critters in the forest love these. And they make excellent targets when playing with the rifle. Ok, so I'm a hick. Anyway, I took her to another store, where we found the grocery store to be selling these things. I nearly was in a panic, as these are NOT to be eaten, as they will make you ill. However, they are pretty good to chase away bugs, or so the rumor mill has suggested. I took her to my home, where I showed her the tree. She was amazed. While I was home this weekend, I saw that one of thse Hedge apples was resting next to my folks's house. I took the shot, and did so with the mindset that I wanted to capture the texture of this hedge apple. They feel so funky to hold and when rubbing with your fingers. I couldn't resist. I took this picture actually for my friend, but decided I'd post it here as well.
