The kind of artist I can be best described as is the traditional and digital type.
Why do I do the work I do? I do it because it’s an expression of the things I like, feelings that I feel in the moment, and most of all it makes me happy. Whenever I do a work of art, whether it’s traditional or digital, I do it because I like to express my creativity, and it makes me feel at ease. One thing I really enjoy doing is sharing my art with other artists who practice the same medium as I do. With their constructive criticism, opinions, and simple comments on my work, it encourages me to improve my skills and techniques as well as gain some new ones.
My current work is noticeably different from the work I’ve done in the past. Taking traditional art classes, digital art classes, and design classes has helped me improve my skills and learn new strategies and techniques. Even though I’ve taken classes like these in previous college years, the teaching and learning method is different than from what I previously experienced. For example, in my digital arts classes I learned how to properly use the layer tool settings in Adobe Photoshop. Before, I would do a digital painting like I would do on a canvas; apply the colors on a sketched-out drawing. Now whenever I do a digital painting, I use the layers tool to help me make changes to the background, foreground, text, or any other features without affecting the features around it. With these new skills, I like to explore and experiment with the layer settings, as well as the other tools, to make a masterpiece. I hope that these skills I’ve learned in my college courses can promote me in digital and graphic designing careers.
