I dreamed of a boy who speaks like you do.
Oh, his voice rings in my ears like yours do.
In his eyes there shines that same gentle light...
But, oh, he's not you.
No, he's not you.

I dreamed of a boy who loves me dearly
But his lips had the same scars as yours do.
In his gaze I felt the same kind embrace.
But, oh, he's not you.
No, he's not you.

I kiss him softly on the cheek
and hold his hands and watch his feet.
I think: "What a coincidence
that he had your name in my dreams!"

The last stanza caught me and threw me off balance. I'm not sure why but I had to reread the poem again, almost as if I had been half-asleep during the first two stanzas.

This poem reminded me of when I am crushing on someone, how I can recognize them from behind based on their attire or in a blurry, unfocused Youtube video.

This is awkward. I think I just admitted that I stalk. lol

that last line threw me off so much. It took me forever to figure out who's who and what's dream what's not @A@ so confusing....
this writing is rather plain and slow coming from you. like some song lyrics.

Haha is it really confusing? ^^; It made more sense in my head LOL...

Yeah, that was the intention, or more like the inspiration. I just thought of the first verse suddenly and thought, "wow, this could be a song," and went from there.

Semi-inspired from our conversation about idolization and such, actually. :P

Haha probably not. I thought of it as a passing of idolization...being able to distinguish dreams from reality. Also, this one is more like a song than a poem.

To me it meant more that the presence of that person can't be captured in any other way, whether it be sound, image, video, memory, or even dream. That even if it's the same face, and the same voice, and the same words, it would never truly be that person.

I think when I think of that idolization I think more of how the memory and dream of that person is different than who that person actually is. But when I think of it as being about the uniqueness of "presence", it's about how the memory and dream of that person -is- the same as that person, but still, somehow, not enough.

That's another interpretation haha. I didn't think about it like that! But it makes sense. ^^
