I wish people today would look at history and learn from the mistakes that have been made.

Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity.

Taken at the War memorial in Canberra, Australia.

Is it your position that the Australians should not have defended themselves and their nation?

Bombing (and other forms of violence) is the reason that the nation of Australia didn't cease to exist several decades ago.

Bombing for peace, well it worked it ended WWII and saved all the lives that would have been lost if we invaded mainland Japan and if under the same circumstances i would have dropped the bomb on Japan to. and before you say "I don't know what i'm talking about" i have seen combat more than a dozen times and i have done 3 tours in Afghanistan and 1 tour in Iraq. I agree but disagree with this saying " I wish people today would look at history and learn from the mistakes that have been made".

People keep thinking that the Allies and such are always the heroes in every war in the last century, but they fail to see that there IS no moral high ground in war. For instance, the most obvious example is the use of the atomic bomb on areas with heavy civilian populations, but people rarely mention the massive firestorm operations carried out on cities in Germany. Not to mention that when the Germans surrendered, the Allies let the USSR move in, which led to the majority of the civilian population being murdered or raped. Hell, there was even a documented case of a German woman being raped to death. They keep going on about how the Germans were terrible, which they were, but when you cause a fourth of your own war casualties in civilian deaths in an instant, you can't exactly claim to be much better.

War is a pointless waste of human life and should be treated as such.

it disgusts me that nowadays kids think war is so cool, and everyone can be a hero and bullshit like that. what do they know? videogames? clearly nne of them ever was at historical sites and memorials, and graveyards.

i laugh at the ridiculousness and pointlessness of war.

is there such thing as a "fair war" ?
war is a struggle for territory or resources.
a territory? a country? in the end, a country is nothing but a bit of land with a line drawn around it. what makes a country a country, its their people.
when in a war you kill these people, you are damaging this country in a unrepairable way.

people just dont get it, do they? each war that is fought only triggers more violence, and in turn triggers the next war.

True, Very true. My family lost almost 100 members in WWII... To this very day even the new born members almost cry out in pain from the loss. But, If only war could go without this much cost. Then this world wouldn't be in so much pain as it is today

Oh boy I felt sad when I visited that memorial. Especially when I went to the tomb of the unknown soldier. So many people lost their lives, and they should all be remembered. But some didn't get identified.

you know im turkish and i think the same, the person who established our republic, Atatürk was wrote a letter to the mothers of the dead soldiers of Anzac(Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) , and said:

''Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well."

this inscription appears on the Kemal Atatürk Memorial, ANZAC Parade, Canberra
i really think he was the most precious person in our history

so your art made me cry anyway thank you for this<3

Ah yes that is exactly what this memorial represents. That war never solves anything and that when a tyrant comes along the best policy is to give baby what he wants. War is hell, but it is better to die so others may live than to live knowing that others suffer because no one would step in to stop a madman. I do not support war, but I do support the destruction of dictators, tyrants, and terrorists. For these people know nothing but how to kill and will never listen to reason. That's why they're called exteremists.

War & Hate is division , While Love & Peace is multiplication. It's such a mistake that war was invented by us , & we cannot seem to learn from the mistakes.

A deep photo for sure. By Now, most people in the US, probably in the world, Know someone, a friend, relative or other who has been affected directly from, war. Is there a truly just cause for massacre. Are the things they fight for good? Is it just a Hitleresque way of eliminating those that we deterime are undesireable? What makes them wrong and you right?
There are no answers for these questions. None at all. All are wrong. All are right.
I will be writing a song about this photo. Thanks for sharing it.

Great photo at the War Memorial in Canberra, which remembers those who have died to give you the freedom that you know today. I hope you have respect for those who have given you your freedom to express such comments! My cousin is one of those on the wall at that War Memorial. He fell at Anzac Cove at Gallipoli on 25 April, 1915. (yes! on ANZAC Day). My own 2 sons are now serving at the "pointy end" in the Royal Australian Navy, including throughout the Middle East. They are both not much older than you are.

Having just witnessed the revolution in Egypt, where the people have been silently oppressed for many decades, I find your comparison between bombing and virginity quite abhorant. While people remain silent against oppression, they will never achieve their freedom. Sadly, it sometimes takes military actions to achieve that freedom. Libya is a perfect example of that right now.

If you believe that war is not for you, then may I suggest you follow the career path of a politician. It's the answer to finding a peaceful solution to the many problems that the world currently faces. However, sometimes, just words alone are not the solution as history has already shown and will continue to show into the future. Palestine is a perfect example of that!

Salam

I have very opposing views with you and I am not going to get into it here with you as I rarely come on here anymore and I don't think we will change each other's mind anyway.

But thank you for putting it so well and I do agree with you to some point, that sometimes war is needed. I don't see how you can compare Australia and Libya when it comes to war, in my opinion Australia has never needed to go to war (maybe WWII) especially these days. Iraq and Afghanistan being what I am mainly talking about, I don't understand how anyone can support our troops being there currently.

Though of course sometimes the army/navy/etc do wonderful things, I just wish there was no need for it in the first place :)

Oh and I think being a politician is the last thing I would ever wanna be haha.

peace...was never an option, this world will always be plauged with war, and the promise to bring peace will always be a lie. If there is hate, there is war, and every human harbors hate...

'"War is the epitome of civil restlessness and human disagreement. No matter how far a group of people idealize, rationalize, and grant peace, there is always the opposite who turn everything they touch into tools of death. They say words don't kill, but in actuality, are the first wounds to an early grave. War is a means of eliminating human origin."'

I'm not 100% againest war. Yes, I wish it didn't happen and that there was no place for it in this world. I understand the reason for WWII. But the Iraq War and Afghanistan, even the Vietnam War? Now there I personally believe there was no reason for a WAR. I think what we should be fighting for is peace not necessarily armed with it. We should want to make the lives of the innocent citizen's lives better and I don't think the word for that is war.
