None of the other photos I had up had very good shoots of the headpiece, so I had to upload this one and pimp my BFF's mad skill and patience with polymer clay! XD We did a cosplay exchange--she did my crown, I made a Patamon plushie for her (I have this up in my gallery). Unfortunately neither this picture nor any of the others I have uploaded show the detail on the Falcon's Claw pendant that she did! So maybe I'll have to upload one more. D=

My Aya-onee of Sakura Rinbu is reponsible for the beautiful composition in this photograph! So what did I do, you ask? Well, besides stab myself countless times making that stupid white dress and managing not to bleed on it (thank GOD) and punch out a few polymer clay bits...I stumbled around in my near-sighted, contact lense-less glory and let Aya-onee do her stuff. XD

This is the most amazing Princess Garnet costume I have ever seen! Did you make it yourself? Did you make the headpiece aswell? What process did you go through to create this beautiful outfit? Did you use a pattern? Or drape it?
I am in awe of your costume, it is absolutely gorgeous! :)

aww thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like it, I really love the costume (even though I don't really feel suited to wearing something so blatantly princess-y lol) To answer your question, I did make it myself, or at least all the portions involving sewing. I sort of combined a bought pattern, some draping, and some drafting (which is pretty much how I do most of my outfits that are at all complicated, but this costume involved a LOT of that). I started with a base pattern (think it was a Vogue wedding dress), made some (lots) alterations to the pattern, moved on to muslin and messed around with it for a while to get it to look right, compiled everything and ending up with a final altered pattern that I used for the final dress. My best friend/college roommate made the crown and the 'crown' of the crystal for me out of polymer clay, in exchange for a Digimon plushie I sewed for her. (she likes making props more, I like sewing more, so it worked out pretty well!)

Thanks again, I'm very happy that people like my rendition; I took a lot of my own creative liberties/extrapolations thanks to the vagueness of the source material. That's what makes it fun though =)

i really really love your closplay, you see im trying to remake mine, my last crown was made of metalic sheet, but i didnt like it, but yours is great, i see you didnt do your accsesories, is there anyway i could now how were they made? and i actually wondering how the hell am i going to make the pendant >_>, where did you get it??

My roommate made them--she made them using silver Fimo polymer clay (both the crown and the pendant 'crown';). The individual pieces of the crown are glued to a flexible dark-colored headband. The crystal is a swarovski 60mm crystal I got from ebay, the green glass stone on the crown I got in a pack from a craft store. Though fair warning, my roommate is really good with and enjoys working with the clay though, so you'd probably want to do something simpler and less delicate before you tried making either of these items; it takes a lot of patience, and she had done other projects before she made these. Another type of polymer clay is 'Sculpey'--you might try finding tutorials for it online. My roommate and I prefer working with Fimo clay because we personally find it easier to work with.

Good luck on your project!

Where'd you get the necklace?

The crystal I got from ebay; the top is made out of Fimo polymer clay. They're attached with wire and a fair amount of glue.

Ah, I've been trying to find one of those, I love her necklace.

If you search for 60mm swarovski on Ebay you should be able to find the crystal I used at the very least; I think there's some for ~$30 there right now, though I waited for a while and got mine for about half that. Also, mine had an AB (aurora borealis) finish, though they also come without that. But the rest of the necklace you would need to make or find someone to make for you if you wanted it accurate; there's nowhere you can get it premade I think, though I suppose you could find a cosplayer who takes commissions for props. I collaborated on mine with my college roommate. Just a warning though, that crystal is pretty heavy; you definitely feel it if you wear it all day. XD; Unless it's for cosplay I just hang it up somewhere in my room and get distracted by the rainbows it makes~
