Tomas looked up as he heard the approaching nattering of girls. He rolled his eyes, realising who it was; Lyra and Geri. Possibly two of the best gossips in the village.
"I heard its been seen again."
"By who, this time?"
"Kari, Dane's sister."
"Really? What did she- oh, hi Tomas."
"Did you hear its been seen again?" Lyra quipped. He leaned on the fence and smiled.
"What's been seen?"
"The naitaka. Kari saw it the other day."
"Yes!" Geri took over. "Apparently it swam right past her while she was having a bath in the lake."
"Uh-huh! I saw it too!" He shot Lyra a sceptic look. "It's true!"
"Okay, what did it look like?"
"It was big, longer than two grown men! It had arms and fins, and it was really fast! I hardly got to look at it! I was just walking on the banks and it was going upstreamů You don't believe me."
"I don't believe you sometimes, Tomas! Kari's the sixth person to see the naitaka in two months! How can you deny the evidence?"
