Update: DeviantArt lost the original size, again. Follow the tutorial, make your own and share them in the comments?
So, I was browsing today and saw a Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1 with a beautiful wallpaper on it at Engadget (www.engadget.com/2008/12/26/ho… and thought to myself... Can I make one that looks sort of like it using only GIMP?
And guess what? I could!
To do it yourself:
- First create a black layer
- Over it you create another layer that you fill using the Filters > Render > Clouds > Solid Noise. Play with the values until you get a decent set of clouds. Make it's transparency value 10 to 30 percent.
- On top of it you create a gray (#cccccc) box as wide as your wallpaper and (in my case) 10 pixels high on a new layer. Let's name it "line"
- Duplicate it three times,
- Gaussian Blur the lower one to 70 px, the middle 30 px and the upper just 10px.
- Place the original on top of it all.
- Create yet another layer and fill it with a black Pattern (I used Stripes Fine)... *I know they used the brushed metal texture, but i liked it better with scanlines*. We will call this layer "scanlines"
- Create another new layer and fill it with any of the Full Saturation Spectrum gradients (or whichever you create or like) and set the layer Mode to Color.
- You will get some lighter linear flares (three to be exact) around the pink, yellow and light blue areas... I used the iWarp filter to make it look like ... i don't know... like a sonic boom.
Place your "scanlines" behind your gray boxes... et voila!
Now that you know how to make them (with GIMP, which is free) you can DIY in your awesome color combos and resolutions... Or you could download mine and tweak the Hue and size. Maybe add to it.
Comments are really appreciated.
NOTE:
No brands where harmed during the creation of this Wallpaper... Xperia is a brand name property of Sony-Ericsson.
