I hope you will find this informative and entertaining!

Interviewed artist: DanielHeydecke :icondanielheydecke:

:bulletyellow: Tell us what defines you as a person.

Self-reflection. Over the last 10 years I have changed very much. It's because I always question myself. I think that you should always be your own worst critic. It helps you to become a better person. And it means that you're making mistakes, just as everyone else.

:bulletyellow: How did you find out about deviantART and why did you join the community?

I had an old account, ages ago. I don't even know why I joined back then, it was while I was still in school. After my time in the military I started to photograph and I remembered this place and that it had so many talented artists you could actually talk to. So I made this new account.

:bulletyellow: When and how did you discover your passion for art?

I was always intrigued by art. To me it was more a technical question: How to transport my creativity so everyone else could see it? How to share it? That's what kept me going while I was looking at some awesome pieces of work that inspired me to try something on my own.

:bulletyellow: What inspires you the most and when do you think your creativity is at its maximum?

Most of the time nature inspires me. I can't really specify it. It doesn't matter if it's big or small. Or it starts with an idea. I have an image in my head. Then I ask myself how to put this image into something real. This is where the creativity kicks in: How do I achieve that? Once I succeed creativity is used up. Until there's a new image of course.

:bulletyellow: What do you think you'd be doing if you hadn't chosen this path?

Most people that know me say that I would have been a good teacher. I like to teach people. Not because I want to be a smart-ass, but because learning is fun. And to teach someone something and so see them succeed is just satisfying. It makes me happy to help others to accomplish something.

:bulletyellow: What do you think it's your most meaningful deviation and what makes it special? Does it have a story behind it?

Tanzen auf Wellen aus Licht, this photo was pure luck. I didn't even know what I was doing. But I wanted to know, so I spent weeks trying to figure out how it is done. I felt like Sherlock Holmes and it was such a satisfying experience. It taught me a lot and I still use that knowledge.

:bulletyellow: Do you have any insecurities regarding your art?

Always. But I realized that it's a good thing. I use it as motivation. Because the next work has to be even better.

:bulletyellow: Did art ever helped you to deal with your life problems?

Yes.

:bulletyellow: What is the one thing you always wanted to do but never got a chance to?

I can't think of anything right now. There are some mistakes I would like to undo, but I don't think that counts. If it counts: I should have told that girl in sixth class that I liked her too. Stupid me...

:bulletyellow: A few words for our fellow artists?

To me art is to discover new things. But you can discover them together. And I think it's great to share your knowledge with others. So if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask them. I'm always happy to answer them.
