ArtRise is NOT up-and-running as a website yet, however it is being built with the intention of keeping dA's current UI intact so that there is a haven for people who do not wish to continue using dA once it switches over to Eclipse. The home page has a link to their Discord server, so you can both observe and participate in discussions about the future of ArtRise. And of course, get the word out as well - more publicity means a stronger wind at ArtRise's back.
EDIT: May 11, 2019
I pointed out in one of my numerous plugs for ArtRi.se that we have a borderline conspiracy theory going on. It is very convenient for the dA staff to tell you that feedback about Eclipse will only be 'considered' if it is submitted through the 'appropriate' channel - which is by turning your profile over to the Eclipse layout and finding the setting function to 'submit feedback' - when we have news going around that some new and existing users are being 'locked into' Eclipse with no switch to toggle out.
Regardless of if you follow the progress of ArtRi.se, I would suggest backing up your art and making note of your favorites, before people jump the shark.

EDIT: June 10, 2019
I've now personally seen journals from people on my watchlist claiming they were shunted over to Eclipse. The "Switch to Classic" option is still there, but apparently the axes are starting to fall.
EDIT: June 20, 2019
I got sent to the Eclipse page but switched back. I'll be picking a different site to vault the stuff I've done until ArtRise is up and running.
EDIT: August 3, 2019
This has gotten a lot of attention the past couple days so I wanted to acknowledge that, and thank those who have favorited it for later. One thing I would like to make clear is that I have no formal affiliation with ArtRise - I'm not doing any developing or beta-testing for them. I do pop in on their discord server every few days to see what's up, but my main reason for writing this journal in the first place is strength in numbers, the more people that are aware of alternatives to dA, the more likely it is that one of them can succeed at being dA's replacement, if that's really what it comes to.
I suppose a second thing to add here is why I personally don't like Eclipse. I present the three principal reasons, in order of least to most deal-breaking. First, the default night mode, which is hell on my eyes since I have astigmatism (easily solved, least pressing). Second, the Eclipse UI appears to be one of those mobile-happy infinite-scroll things, which, no, absolutely not. I use the old Reddit format because who the fuck asked for the new format, now dA is going the same way (and since they're going to eventually drop the original dA format, there is little hope of having an option similar to the one on Reddit). Lastly, the Eclipse change is being puppeteered by dA's new master-cough-owner Wix; the reason that's important is because Wix uses lots of scripts on their websites, including replay sessions. I can make dA work with uMatrix in the old format, but if Eclipse breaks unless these scripts are whitelisted, that's a no from me dawg.
EDIT: October 29, 2019
I had to refresh my Firefox session, so I had to log in again. Since logged-out users are sent to the Eclipse home page, I had to sign in from there. It wouldn't let me sign in until I unblocked JavaScript, and even once I had, I had to complete several image-verification reCAPTCHAs. Hey Wix, maybe people have disabled JavaScript because they don't like the replay sessions you put on your pages - you know, the ones that allow you to watch a literal replay of what a user did on the page, including keylogging of sensitive account or financial information even if they don't hit 'submit' on that information. Once I logged in and I was on Classic dA, I was able to re-block most JavaScript without the stupid website having a toddler meltdown, but I still think everyone at Wix drank lead paint by the bucket as children. ArtRise, I'm still rooting for you.

Happy Anniversary
To the Nintendo Switch, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!
I'm going to go marathon it now and fall in love yet again. *swoon*
Superbowl Aftermath
I didn't watch that shit.
BUT. This morning when I was driving to work, I listened to the news story about how Philadelphia was celebrating the victory.
Turning over cars, breaking street lights, running around in the streets, smashing store windows.
America: where riots and celebrations are apparently two sides of the coin.

Uh, maybe because writers like the one below breathe condescension rather than oxygen?
It's probably pretty obvious, but I'm left-of-center politically speaking, and also happen to live in D.C.'s Metro area.
(if you don't live in D.C., never use its Metro if you value your life.)
I was driving to work this morning when WTOP featured an excerpt from a piece by Federal News Radio called Shutdowns: the Upside!
Okay, that title isn't very offensive and some parts of the article make me think that the author is tongue-in-cheek about his own bias. But he oversells it by about all the percents, leading to a straight-faced reading
