Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 4, 2016, 4:50 PM

Phew, our whole group has been working hard to stay on top of the orders, custom requests, and convention stock! As usual, our online presence has suffered because of it. Please forgive us! D; We're trying! We might have to hire someone whose solitary job is to update our online stores and such, but until then, you'll just have to bear with us. Know that you can ALWAYS email us at LillyInverse@gmail.com and ask for a custom request or to purchase something you saw at a convention that hasn't been uploaded to our site yet!

OHAYOCON REVIEW:

Ohayocon treated us wonderfully this year - not that THAT'S a surprise! We were in the very back of the artist alley on the right side, yet we were STILL up over 50% from last year! We got to see some friends we hadn't seen in a while and, of course, made new friends and tons of art trades. The pic above was the view from our area of the artist alley. The dealer room looked CRAZY all weekend! Maybe we'll try switching to there next year, but we're not really sure. We enjoyed the staff of the artist alley so much, we'd hate to give that up!

WASHICON REVIEW:

Washi Con was wonderful! It was a first year con, which always means that there are some kinks to work out, but they were super receptive to suggestions from everyone and VERY on top of fixing any issues as soon as possible! The con is at Eastern Michigan University, which means it was literally 5 minutes away from us! We even had some fans find us there, like the gentleman pictured above who bought one of our shirts at Ohayocon :D

ANIME CROSSROADS REVIEW:

Anime Crossroads was our most recent con as of this post. We don't have any pictures, unfortunately, but we did enjoy it! Our income was up over 30% from last year, which is always a plus, but we also just love the way this con is run. Yes, we were in a closed room that was connected to the main events room so there were sound/lighting issues, but the staff here is ON POINT when it comes to getting stuff fixed for their artists! The alley is small, which means everyone gets the recognition that they deserve from each attendee that comes into the room. And, one of my favorite new policies, we were able to purchase next year's table on the spot. So of COURSE we did! Be seeing you next year, A-Cross!

FAUN EARS

Custom Cosplay / LARPing Faun Ears by LillyInverse

Our latest products, and the coolest thing you'll see around your local convention and renaissance festival, are these cosplay ears. They come in many different styles, but this listing is for these pictured faun/deer style.

NEW CONS:

As always, it's our goal to add more and more cons to our list each year in order to get our geeky goods into the hands of as many of our fans as possible! Unfortunately, we had to eliminate one this year. Due to management issues, we will not be attending Shutocon again. However, our Lansing fans love us so much that we couldn't just neglect them outright! You can still get our geeky glassware and handmade cosplay products on Shutocon weekend, just over at the Lansing City Market instead! The market has tons of exhibitors and it's only a minute or so's walk from the Lansing Center. It's like having a whole extra dealer room! Here's a map of the easiest way to get to us and all of the other geeky vendors at the Lansing City Market, March 20-22:

But that's not all! We've also been accepted for:
Animinneapolis May 6-8 at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, MN
Animazement May 27-27 at the Raleigh Convention Center Raleigh, NC
Anime Midwest -July 8-10 at Hyatt Regency O'Hare and Stephens Convention Center Rosemont, IL
Otakon - August 12-15 at Baltimore Convention Center Baltimore, MD
Ramencon September 23-26 at Radisson Holiday Star Plaza Merillville, IN
Youmacon October 29 - November 1 at Cobo Center & Renaissance Center Detroit, MI
We will update our list on our main DA page as well as our website as more conventions send us their acceptance letters :3

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*TRY to keep up on inventory/prep for all the upcoming cons (I'm looking at you, Anime Milwaukee & Lansing City Market @ Shutocon Weekend...)

*Bring some wares to a local game shop to see if they'd like to sell them for us

*Get cracking on new product ideas we've been discussing

*Train some of our members to do things they are still shaky on

*Upload more fun stuff to the DA!

*Apply for MORE cons! :D (Big Grin)

Happy New Year From Lilly Inverse Designs!

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 4, 2016, 9:18 PM

For the love of all that is soft and fuzzy we can BREATHE AGAIN! Q.Q We've been sooooo busy up through the holidays that we only just now have a chance to update everyone! Please forgive our negligence on the online front, but we are still alive and kicking, working on customs, and traveling around the Midwest selling our wares! So what are we up to in the new year? Tons of stuff! New products, new conventions, new members of our group, and much more! Since we did about a billion (totally not exaggerating) conventions in the last half of 2015, we'll only be posting reviews for the ones which stood out to us. So on that note, here we go!

TROTCON REVIEW:

Our first pony con went wonderfully! We stayed with friends, made new friends, and of course had a great time showing off our new product line of My Little Pony etched glass! Here's a small view of our MLP FiM work from Trotcon:

We were even lucky enough to have Steffan Andrews (composer, musician, and orchestrator for many of the FiM songs, including the main theme!) purchase one of our Octavia cups. Here's a picture of him holding his purchase:

We hope to do many more pony conventions and are working with the Traveling Pony Museum in order to get our MLP etched glass in the hands of pony fans across the country!

OTAKON REVIEW:

Otakon! Wow! Otakon was a first for us in many ways. Our first Otakon, for one. But on top of that, it was our first visit to Baltimore, our first 13 hour convention day, and our first time setting up our new glass display and lights! What do you guys think?

All 4 of us were working the con that weekend, and we were ALL needed and all completely exhausted by the end. But it was a good exhaustion, and we will definitely be applying for next year!

MATSURICON REVIEW:

Matsuricon has been one of our favorite cons for a few years now, but they really upped their game in 2015! They had a closed alley this year, and past security issues were not to be heard from. And, SPOILERS, we just got our acceptance letter for 2016 and are super happy about it!

RAMENCON REVIEW:

Chris is awesome. Ramencon is awesome. The Taakure Mandalorian clan is awesome. What else can be said about Ramencon? They have great guests, who they cycle every year, and they have the option to have either a table in the open or the closed alley. And, as always, our profits went up. So yeah, Ramencon rocks. Is it time for 2016 yet?

YOUMACON REVIEW:

Youmacon! Youmacon is always fun because we get to STAY HOME! We are always traveling, sometimes up to 4 weekends each month, and so staying home is actually like a vacation to us lol. This year, though, Youmacon was extra fun! We saw old friends, made new friends, and had no problems with the way things were run in the alley. I even got to run my favorite panel, Romancing Pigeons by Consensus: A Hatoful Boyfriend Panel and it was wonderful! Everyone had a good time, even non-pigeon fans who I dragged along lol. Oh, also I'm a dragon sometimes now.

NEW PRODUCTS:

Dragonball Z (DBZ) Goku Etched Glass by LillyInverse

Ok, so if you've seen us at conventions you know that this isn't technically a 'new' product, but we're trying to get our HUGE list of available products online, so cut us some slack here xP To favorite this awesome DBZ glass, or to order one for yourself, click on the image :D

NEW CONS:

Out with the old, in with the new! We've gone through and applied to some new cons, some old, and are awaiting responses and for applications to open for many more. As of right now, we are accepted for Anime Zap Embassy Suites, Peoria, IL; Ohayocon - Hyatt Regency Columbus Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, OH; Anime Crossroads - Wyndham Indianapolis West, Indianapolis, IN; Anime Milwaukee - Hyatt Regency Milwaukee / Delta Center, Milwaukee, WI; Animarathon XIII - BGSU, Bowling Green, OH; Indy Pop Con -Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, IN; Glass City Comic Con - SeaGate Convention Centre, Toledo, OH; and Matsuricon - Hyatt Regency Columbus – Columbus, OH. We will update our list on our main DA page as well as our website as more conventions send us their acceptance letters :3

STILL TO DO:

*TRY to keep up on inventory/prep for all the upcoming cons.

*Get cracking on new product ideas we've been discussing

In The Thick of It...

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 15, 2015, 3:15 PM

So we're right in the middle of con season guys. How's everyone else doing? I hope you're enjoying it as much as we are, but I also hope you're MUCH less stressed! If we get time during con season, we're going to be training one of our team members to update the website, Lilly Inverse Designs, along with the Deviantart, Facebook, Tumblr, and maybe even adding an instagram or something. This will mean that I can finally realize my personal goal of having all of our hundreds and hundreds of products available to be viewed and ordered online! It's a crazy goal, but I have faith that we can get it done! Our team is full of wonderfully dedicated and hardworking friends and family. There's nothing we can't do if we put our minds to it! :D

INDY POP REVIEW:

We've been with Indy Pop since their first year and they just keep getting better! This year, we were shocked to see how many people there were! Last year was their first year, but they still surprised us with about 5,000 attendees. Because this was a con on the smaller end, I thought it would be a good 'training con' for our newest helper. However, much to our surprise, this year they blew that number WAY out of the water with 23,000 people! It was absolutely insane! They cut down the size of the dealer room as well, and our profits definitely reflected that. And to our helper's credit, he kept up pretty well! While this is all GREAT NEWS for the con and for us, it was rather unfortunate for the people in charge and the guests as they were completely unprepared for such a turn out! We were hoping to give Markiplier a birthday gift, but we just didn't have enough time to leave our booth to stand in a 4 hour line to see him. Oh well, maybe next year, because we will DEFINITELY be going back if we can!

ANIME MIDWEST REVIEW:

Oh boy... Just.... Just wow guys @_@ I am still reeling from this con! This year's Anime Midwest was our best con ever! Literally, in the 4 years we've been selling at cons, we have never made more profit than we did at this year's Anime Midwest.  For only having 11,000 people, this con was INSANE! We were in the artist alley at the very back of the room behind all of the dealers, and we STILL destroyed last year's profits on Saturday afternoon, meaning that everything we made Saturday evening and all of Sunday was just overkill. You guys are simply amazing! We also got to talk with the group who wanted to partner up with us and get some of their merch etched by us, so we are super excited to finalize all the details of working with them! When everything is all finalized and official, we'll be sure to make a big announcement here ;3 We also ordered a new camera and cup display as well, and I think it looks great! What do you guys think?

NEW CONS:

We've added a couple of new cons to our list again! We'll be heading back to Nyancon fort our 4th year in a row. It's one of our favorite one-day cons in Kirkland Ohio, on November 5th. We'll also be going to our first Gilded Gear Festival  in Rochester, Mi, and we've made a couple steampunk-themed items for it that we can't wait to debut! We're still working hard on applying to shows in the Midwest, so keep an eye on our con schedule widget for dates and locations of our latest cons!

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*TRY to keep up on inventory/prep for all the upcoming cons. We've only got about 2 weeks off at any given time, so it's going to be a challenge!

*Bring some wares to a local game shop to see if they'd like to sell them for us

*Upload more fun stuff to the DA!

*Apply for MORE cons! :D (Big Grin)

COMMISSION STATUSES:

1. Etched bottles for partners - 0% (Will need to check in on them after Midwest, just awaiting for the 24 bottles themselves!)
2. White Arm Warmers for Anthony - 10%  (Still waiting on my machine to get fixed, but I found my materials so that's a plus :D)
3. Red & black arm & leg warmers for Jessica - 10%  (Still waiting on my machine to get fixed, but I found my materials so that's a plus :D)
4. Fate/0 Cup from Anime Midwest - 50%

Long Awaited Update

Journal Entry: Tue May 19, 2015, 1:55 PM

So wow, things have been hectic in early 2015! I want to apologize for not getting around to updating as frequently as I hoped. I've been going through a lot of family stuff which is only just now getting (somewhat/mostly) resolved enough for me to get back to updating. So here's what went on during the first part of the year!

OHAYOCON REVIEW:

This year marks our first year at the infamous Ohayocon! Partners went, but they informed me that it was super fun. As far as numbers go, we did very well, especially for having a bit of competition there! This was one of our first non-fanart cons, so we were a bit nervous, but I definitely think we'll be going back!

ALMACON REVIEW:

February kicked off with our 3rd year conniversray, Almacon in Alma, Michigan. We were happy to be there again with our new products, which went over splendidly! Unfortunately, the people running the show oversold the artist alley and dealer's room, so we and a few other artists and one dealer were shuffled off into a side room with very little traffic on Friday. Luckily on Saturday, Nina from Animezing Chicago approached me and said that there was a free table in the main dealer room. We had paid for 2 tables, so the con was nice enough to give me a refund for one of them. I made some awesome friends who helped me move all of my stuff into the dealer room, and then even stayed behind to help me sell and gave me a place to crash for the rest of the con. I didn't buy anything, but I did do an awesome trade for some rainbow scaled bracers and wrist cuffs from Damien of Black Ace Productions! Almacon has always been wonderful to us, and we will definitely be going back next year!

ANIME MILWAUKEE REVIEW:

Anime Milwaukee was amazing, but it was also very stressful! It was my first con being an on-site artist alley head, or so I thought. Unfortunately, no one had told my department head this, so I was basically just a head helper instead, but next year she wants me to help out as AA head on a more official basis, which should be great! I got to do some fun things, like help Little Kuriboh with his booth and get a hug from Terri Doty. I also go to do some not-so-fun things like check badges and make sure nobody went in through the out doors. All in all, though, it was a great experience, and I very much enjoyed helping out such a wonderful con!

While I was out and doing my work-thing, My partners were manning our booth in artist alley. We did great financially! We got a couple custom orders, but the rest was all from our etched glass and ear cuffs. We will absolutely be trying to head back next year!

ANIME CROSSROADS REVIEW:

Anime Crossroads was next, and it was great! I took a friend and stayed at EllisArts place, which was fabulous since we hadn't seen them since Gencon last year! We did well financially, but that was nothing compared to the amount of fun with friends! I also got to hang out with some of the cute maids and butlers in the Neko Wo Kaburu cafe. Thanks, lovelies, for all your help with carting things to and from my car!

ANIMARATHON REVIEW:

Next on the list was Animarathon. I went again with SquirrelyEvil which was awesome. I miss hanging out with my bestie, so it's awesome when we get to work together! It was Mark's last  year as AA head because he's graduating, and he was just as flustered (but amazingly helpful!) as ever. We donated a couple glasses to them for being so awesome to us, and I hope he got one! Our profits were up 30% from last year, and I can't wait for next year to come!

CHI-FI CON REVIEW:

At Kollision Con earlier this year, we made friends with an amazing guest, Apple Davies. She suggested that we get a table at Chi-Fi con. Unfortunately, that didn't go well... The con chair actually told those who complained about being placed in a small room with no signage that they should 'get a table at Wizard World if they want to make money. This is a non-profit con." There are so many things wrong with that, not the least of which is the lack of professionalism when dealing with clients. Yes, Chi-Fi is a non-profit con. But so are many, and I would hazard to say even MOST cons that we attend, and this is our first time in 3 years where we've not broken even at a convention. We didn't even come close. But to tell someone to go to another convention and to not expect to make any money at your con because it's a non-profit? That's just rude and unprofessional.

Luckily, Apple is awesome. I messaged her on Facebook and told her the situation. Even though she was busy being a guest, she still took time out of her day to come to check on the alley and even got it moved to a more well-trafficked area. It helped a little, but still not enough to make us want to come back. The staff said that they would be contacting us about compensation, but nothing has happened so far, and I'm not hopeful no that front. I think we're just going to call it a learning experience and move on.

ARMAGEDDICON REVIEW:

A representative from Armageddicon approached us at an earlier con this year and said that, since they are a well-known party con and we make shot glasses as one of our items, we should vend at their con. We graciously accepted. The people who ran the alley were very awesome, even going so far as to come around and ask for constructive criticism, of which we had little beyond suggesting to give flyers to their artists or vendors to advertise a bit more. While not the biggest con, we still made a profit and will definitely be returning next year because of how friendly the staff was.

MIDWEST MEDIA EXPO REVIEW:

This was MME's second year, and our second year at MME. It is a local Detroit-area con put on by the same people as Youmacon and it's just as wonderful in my opinion! Our profits were up 16% from last year, and we will definitely return next year as well! We got to see our awesome friends at Legend of Cosplay and shared a table with the awesome Alex from Thundersteel Armory. We also got to see John St. John, who bought a hat from us at Kollision con, harass a couple customers in front of our booth, which was rather amusing.

ANIME PARK REVIEW:

The final con from the beginning of the year was Anime Park, a small high school con in Canton, MI. This was our 3rd year at Anime Park and it was just as fun, but not quite as profitable as before. Our table was right next to Thundersteel Armory and Black Ace Productions, and I got to see a bunch of friends that I haven't hung out with in forever. This con is so close and so fun that we'll keep going back!

NEW CONS:

We've added a ton of new con to our list again! Among them are Michigan Pagan Festival, Indy Pop ConTrot Con (our first MLP con - wee!), Otakon (our first time at this behemoth :o), Matsuricon, Ramencon, Youmacon, and Ponyville Cider Fest. We're still working hard on applying to shows in the Midwest, so keep an eye on our con schedule widget for dates and locations of our latest cons!

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*Post Anime Park inventory

*Start Prep for the big start to con season!

*Design/create/order a better glass display system

*Bring some wares to a local game shop to see if they'd like to sell them for us

Conventions Everywhere :O

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 11, 2015, 11:43 AM

Wow, has it really been 2 months already!? Time flies when you're super busy! First of all, we want to say that we hope your holiday season and new years celebrations have gone just as wonderful as ours! As usual, we were at conventions, and we wouldn't have it any other way :3

As many of you may have noticed, the last software that I tried to use to make the 300 likes giveaway failed miserably :C I've removed the old giveaway tab and this month we're going back to the like/share image system that worked so well last time. If you go to the Lilly Inverse Facebook Page, you will see the image that you need to share on Facebook in order to qualify. It will look like this:

You must also like Lilly Inverse Designs on Facebook. By doing so, you will be put into the drawing for a free custom etched glass! You choose whatever design you want on it, glass size, and color! The contest will run from now through Valentine's Day (Feb 14th), so there will be plenty of time for everyone to join. What are you waiting for?

CON + ALT + DELETE REVIEW:

The convention immediately before Christmas was Con+Alt+Delete. It's one we've done before, and we were happy to see our numbers jump up from last year! We were up about 300% from last year, which is amazing! Thanks so much to everyone who came to our booth and checked us out! We got 2 custom requests, and one person who bought a gift card for a friend for Christmas. If you are interested in buying a gift card for you or someone you know, send us and email and we'll help you out :3

My only souveniers from CAD (above) are this awesome button (by Gays in Capes and ring engraved with a music note. I ended up art-trading for both of them with the artists behind me. Thanks so much! <3

I also ran 2 panels at CAD, both of which were SUPER fun! When not running panels, I was going to check out panels myself! I learned a bit of swing dance with my table mate, and it was totally fun! ...Until they made us switch partners and I felt super awkward lol. We also did some karaoke together, and made some awesome new connections in the business world. Look for some amazing new products soon!

ANIME ZAP REVIEW:

The weekend of Jan 3rd was our first 'divide and conquer' convention weekend. My partners went to Anime Zap, another con that we'd done last year. Their numbers were up and so were ours! 220% compared to last year! Due to some issues with the convention schedule, they didn't go to any panels or anything, but the money was great, so we will definitely be back next year!

And my boyfriend even got me one of my favorite card games even though the con fell on HIS birthday! I'm so spoiled!

KOLLISION CON REVIEW:

While partners were at Zap, I went to Kollisioncon with a good friend and we had quite a bit of fun! The con itself was, unfortunately, not worth it for everyone... It was our first time there, and we broke even and made a little bit of profit, but not enough to warrent going back. It sounds like many of the other artists and dealers were feeling the same way, and some weren't even able to break even or pay for their table cost. I wish the con all the luck in the world, and I still had a great time at the con, but we won't be returning.

My panel went wonderfully, drawing in about 50 people! It was the biggest my panel's ever been! :o I also made friends with the guys from Otakutopia. I'd seen them before and been to one of their cons, but they invited me to their other, smaller convention this month as well, so I'll be attending TAG Fest in 2 weeks - time to prepare!

I also had a couple drinks with the people of
Anime Milwaukee
and they invited me to be their Artist Alley head. They had already done most of the work for this year, including sending out invoices and such, so I will mostly be an on-site head this year, and then next year I'll get more into the approval process and such. Can't wait to help out with such a great con!

I was also able to chat with Terri Doty about everything from conventions to sexual preferences lol. I didn't even realize who she was until we were halfway through our conversation - she's just such an awesome and down-to-earth person that it never struck me that she'd be a famous voice actress xD

Speaking of awesome people, I got to meet the crazy-talented cosplayer </span></span></span>Apple Davies and her crew too! She gave us candy all weekend, she was really sweet (no pun intended lol) and totally fun to talk to. Wish we had gotten more time to do so, but she was running 8 panels - skeelz!

We were approached by another artist at the con for a potential business relationship as well. They do primarily leatherwork, but they wanted us to etch things on some of their bottles, so they gave us a bottle to test out for them. Hope we can make each other lots of money with this!

To top it all off, I got a ton of souveniers xD 2 video games (one I art-traded for), 3 new pins, and a hair bow :3 When I'm making money, I love to share the wealth! Especially when others at the con are not doing so great.

NEW CONS:

We've added more new con to our list, one of which (TAG Fest) is this month! We have decided to remove last year's convention schedule - out with the old and in with the new! It will still be available at the Lilly Inverse Designs website, but we're keepin DA more 'current.' To ensure accuracy and avoid confusion, we're also removing the 'maybe' cons from the list. This means that conventions won't actually be added to the list until we receive our 'acceptance' letter and pay for them. We're also adding links to each convention in that widget so that you can easily go to their websites and buy tickets. We're still working hard on applying for some of the bigger shows in the Midwest, so keep an eye on our con schedule widget!

Nanashi Anime Podcast is BACK!

The podcast that I do with the awesome DJM is back! It's still Nanashi, and it's still the best anime podcast around (totally biased), but BIG NEWS! We're on Anime3000! Our latest recording was for Revolutionary Girl Utena and it's up on A3K right now :D Our next recording will be for Panty and Stocking With Garter Belt and I'm VERY excited for it... I have a feeling that BOTH of us are going to have some interesting thoughts on this. We will be recording at Ohayocon, so look for updates from us around that time!

CONVENTION KISS:

Our First Ever Convention Kiss CG! by LillyInverse

Not 100% convention related, but this project is still going, and we just received a BIG update from our CG artist! :iconkairicat7: has given us our first fully colored CG! I love it so much, and I can't wait for the rest of them to come in! Once I have all the CGs for the first part of the game, I'll release the demo here for everyone to enjoy!

Post Youmacon Review

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 5, 2014, 6:41 PM

YOUMACON REVIEW:

The great beast that is Youmacon has finally passed, and our expectations for it have been SURpassed! Last year, Youmacon was a large con with the profit of a midsize con. But this year, they totally stepped up their game, at least as far as I was concerned! Lilly Inverse Designs made 300% of what we made last year! It was INSANE! Many of our artist friends weren't so lucky :/ Hopefully next year the dealer/artist room will be set up differently so that everyone can share in our success!

Things started out poorly :/ We arrived Thursday morning at 11:30 AM, but the artist alley head didn't arrive until 2pm, even though she said she was going to be there at noon. She was supposed to have our badges, including helper badges, but someone didn't give them to her, so we had to wait until the next day to get those. Our tables were supposed to be 8ft long, but they were only 6ft. I was worried about our placement as well... but apparently all my concerns were unfounded!

At home, I decided to do inventory... It was a little insane... I filled the kitchen with cups several times, but we finally got everything sorted. Then my good friend and fellow podcast co-host, DJM, messaged me on facebook saying he got into a car accident and was in the hospital :c I was super worried, but the doctors gave him a clean bill of health rather quickly - no broken bones or anything, just quite a few bruises and scrapes. *SUPER relieved,* We packed up the car and got our sleep on.

Youmacon Setup by LillyInverse

New Cup Display by LillyInverse

I'm super proud of our setup for this con! Even though we only had 2 6ft tables and had planned for 2 8 ft tables, it still worked out great! The only thing I would change is how crowded our arm warmers, masks, and hats look, and I need to find a new display for our ears. But our new cup display (courtesy of my awesome boyfriend ^_^) worked out wonderfully, especially with the lights we got for it! You could see many of our designs from all the way across the aisle, which was great! In fact, I took the biggest pics from across the aisle and you can still clearly make out a few of the Sailor Scouts!

Friday was a good day as far as sales. We made $150 less than we made all weekend at Youmacon last year! We were super excited afterward, so I decided we should drop off the present we made for DC Douglas, the voice actor who plays Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil series. He used to do a hilarious 18+ panel where he read terrible Wesker fanfics with fans. We went to it at every con we could, but it got cancelled :c To show our appreciation and sadness for the loss of an awesome panel, we made him the cup above with him on one side and Wesker on the other. I had to give it to him in the autograph line, which was funny because he was trying to be quick about everything so everyone got a chance to see him, but he really wanted to stay and talk about it lol. He even made a vine on the spot with me in it (though I look super ridiculous and confused LOL) Here's the link: VINE by DC Douglas He also tweeted at us on Twitter!

After an exhaustingly wonderful Friday, we were not prepared for Saturday. We grossed even more, and we actually got a partial refund for the table size mixup! We had many, many friends stop by, and some even bought some of our things (at a friend-discounted price, of course ;3). After the alley closed, we hurried over to the NEW DC Douglas panel, which was just as great s his old one! I highly recommend seeing it if you are at a convention with DC! Hilarious!

Sunday was HUGE! Everyone on the artist groups on Facebook were saying that it was a Sunday con, and they weren't lying! Sunday was actually our best day of the weekend! Although, unfortunately, the weekend ended just as poorly as it started, with an injury :c My boyfriend was rushing to get to the People Mover (a monorail-style public transport system) and he tripped and gouged his knee on the escalator. He's laid up until it heals - can't even bend it :c but at least he won't need stitches. Being only an hour away from the con was great and we slept like babies the past few nights ^_^

Unfortunately, after the convention was over, I talked to a good friend of mine about her convention experience. It was far less than ideal, and it had everything to do with the people she was rooming and sharing her booth with. I didn't want to have to say anything, but enough is enough. This has gone far enough and I can't sit idly by anymore. Sorry if this comes off as a 'rant,' but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I want to post a warning here about someone who was taken advantage of by their table mate, but at the same time I don't want to start anything by 'outing' someone or naming names publicly.

Basically what happened to her was the same thing that happened to me when I tried to share space with this person. My friend invited this girl and her girlfriend to split her table space at Youmacon, provided they paid their half and were able to take a mutual friend to the con in their car as well. They were also all going to room together at an expensive con-ajacent hotel. This person did not pay her half of the booth/hotel on time and would not answer her phone when my friend tried to call her to get the money she was owed. My friend had car trouble very recently and was relying on the money, so she was very upset. My friend eventually had to contact this person's roommate in order to get a hold of them and get the money, but in doing so my friend was told that her booth mate would NOT be driving their mutual friend. Kind of skeezy, but my friend was happy enough to get the money.

At the con, my friend set up her booth with them and they agreed, basically, whose space would be whose. Throughout the con, my friend was unable to leave her booth because her boothmates were never at the table, unless they were rearranging their products to obscure my friend's. They basically kicked her out of her own booth, and my friend ended up leaving early on Sunday because of it. She missed out on many sales because her things were overshadowed by theirs, which really isn't fair when she's the one who actually went through the act of applying and getting in to this con. In the end, these 2 didn't do very well for themselves either, but that money that they made would have been a great help to my friend. Even though they got a great deal (only having to pay for ONE person to stay with my friend), they decided that they didn't want to room with her anymore because there were 'too  many people in the room already.' Amidst a weekend that was not very good for many artists, my friend also had to deal with panic attacks and undue stress from people she was basically doing a favor for because they were not capable of getting a booth for themselves.

When my friend told me this story, she also told me some other VERY disturbing things about these 2. They said that what had happened to my friend in the car accident was 'karma,' and were spreading rumors about my booth helper crying in the bathroom because she couldn't work with me and how she's scared to say anything to me because I have her information. My booth helper and I live together and we are best friends. I talked to her about it, knowing that at times things can be stressful and wanting to work it out if there indeed was a problem. She laughed in my face at the very notion that she would do that, let alone do that and tell a complete stranger about it in the bathroom before coming to me personally about it! I was relieved that there were no issues between us, but very sad that someone could be so malicious as to spread baseless rumors about she and I when all we've ever been are the best of friends.

On the subject of booth sharing, I've personally had people sit at my booth with me and share space, and I'm happy to do let them do so. Of all those that I've had share space with me in the past, 99% of them are still great friends of mine, and many of them want to share space again with me in the future. But it was still my booth, Lilly Inverse Designs, and I expected to be treated with respect. I expected my work to be treated with respect. Because this is MY livelihood, not yours. I am one of those artists who uses this as my sole source of income, and I know the person who was taken advantage of was really hurting financially and needed this con's income to help pay for some of those horribly expensive things that life sometimes tends to throw at you. The way I see it, though, is that if you are unable to get a booth of your own and you are invited to share a booth with someone (something no one is OBLIGATED to do for you), treat the person you're mooching off of with nothing but respect.  Sorry, I just think others should be warned so that their things are not put in jeopardy too. I guess what I'm saying is, trust your gut, and be careful who you share your space with. It is clear to me that this person just wants to start drama (again, some more), which is evidenced further by the fact that she continually checks my Deviantart page for some reason. I, personally, don't have the time for it.

Good News - Time For an Update!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 17, 2014, 10:22 PM

So much has happened since Nyancon - and still 2 weeks until Youma! :D I've been VERY sick lately. I went to the Dr. yesterday (finally) and got blood drawn, a few other tests done and it looks like there are some semi-serious health issues that I need to address. I won't know 100% what's wrong until I get the full results back, but suffice it to say that my thyroid is acting up again and I need to have my medication adjusted. Annoying, but I'll get through it :3 I always do.

First, I'm proud to announce that we have personally been invited to return to Glass City Comic Con! We, of course, accepted - we enjoyed ourselves very much last year, so why wouldn't we return? We're getting invited to more and more cons lately, so I'll be updating the con list as frequently as I can!

We started this week with a big milestone - we've reached 200 likes on Facebook! To celebrate, we're running a giveaway! It's a simple like/share giveaway on Facebook. Click the image above to be taken to my facebook page. Like it, share the image publicly on your wall before the 12th of November, and voila! You're entered into the drawing!

Lilly Inverse Designs Vinyl Banner (Proof) by LillyInverse

In celebration of our 200 likes on facebook, I drew us a mascot and our resident graphic designer helped me make a banner featuring her and our new trademark slogan - "Guaranteed to make senpai notice you."™ I'm so excited to see my art on a huge banner! We ordered it and it came in about 3 days - it was amazing! Here's a (somewhat fuzzy) pic of the actual banner:

Click on either of those pictures and you will be taken to the deviation where you can fav them and/or leave me a comment to let me know what you think!

I spent today working on commissions. These are 2 that I got done this evening. Still need to be ironed, but they're done for all intensive purposes! The large heart pony is for CammyFlauge and the small character, Ink, is for MasterSaruwatari - hope you guys like them! I'll be sending them out in the next couple days!

While I'm at it, these are 2 more commissions I've done over the past week - the Capsule Corp and Vegeta symbols. I'm still waiting on a confirmation email from the couple who commissioned them, but as soon as I get it, I'll be mailing them out as well :3 With those done, here's the remaining lists:

Nyancon - The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 6, 2014, 3:27 PM

First off the good news! Nyancon 2014 was awesome! We did twice as well as we did at Nyancon 2013! My panels went great (with a couple MINOR technical difficulties that I will know to avoid for Youmacon lol) and everyone seems to love them. It makes me feel good to give something back to a convention that we enjoy so much. We were so pleased that we even made them a free set of custom etched glasses for the convention to show how much we loved it! Sorry for the grainy picture - it was taken with my Ipad at the convention lol.

Special Nyancon Custom Cups by LillyInverse

Now the bad.... We both got sick :C Or maybe we were both sick before hand? I'm not sure lol. I went with My boyfriend who took over the table for the remaining half of the evening when I was working on presenting my panels. We made it home ok, but I was very light headed and my vertigo medication didn't help at all. 2 days of sleeping 14+ hours, though, and I'm back on my feet!  That means it's time to get to work on commissions, then start in on Youmacon stock!

The Ugly... It has come to my attention that someone is copying my ideas for their stock for Youmacon. They are sharing a table with a friend, so it won't be their whole stock, but it is still childish and unappreciated.

I have absolutely NO objection to someone doing etched glass. It's a common craft, and can be accomplished through many means - laser etching, sand blasting, dremilling, and acid-etching. The materials are sold at local craft stores, though they are a bit pricey. I'm not even the only one doing it at most of the conventions I go to, so it's not an issue of the etching itself. What I do take issue with is, after I submit several of my designs to the Youmacon DA, I see this person changing gears, going from print and clay to suddenly doing glass etching, and doing the same exact thing, same exact method, and listing that they are going to be representing only the fandoms which I have in my gallery at the only convention that they're going to this year, which just happens to be the only convention's DA I've submitted my work to.

Since what we do is fanart, there is no way to copyright it. Unfortuantely, due to this issue, I will not be posting any of my etched glass work here until after Youmacon. I'm sorry, because I know you all enjoy seeing my etched glass work, but I won't set myself up for art theft. This does NOT mean that I won't be making more etched glass, just that I will have to wait until after Youmacon to share it with my watchers ^_^

Now onto some EXCITING news! I'm a mere 11 followers away from having 200 followers on Facebook! When we reach 200, We'll be running another giveaway :D You can help us out by following our Facebook page and sharing our updates!

Ouran High School Crest Etched Glass by LillyInverse

First up is our Ouran High School Host Club cup. Ouran is one of my favorite animes that has come out recently, so I thought it only fitting to make a cup featuring the Ouran High School crest! I’ve given etched glasses with this symbol to Vic Mignogna (Tamaki), J. Michael Tatum (Kyouya), and Todd Haberkorn (Hikaru), and they seem to love them! Now you can own a cup that the Hosts all love too by purchasing one here! For more information, click the image above to check out the deviation!

Custom Cosplay Dragon Ears by LillyInverse

Next is our most popular ear design yet - dragons! The dragon ears are typically done in 2 different colors - a base color and an accent color for the tips, so feel free to use your imagination and make them as amazing as you want! Ramencon Notes, New Products, and Nyancon Incoming

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 26, 2014, 3:55 PM

Just got back from Ramencon on Sunday so it's time for a writeup :D

So the hotel... Let me just say this, NEVER stay at a Key West Hotel... They use actual keys instead of cards, which is quite a bit less safe. The person at the front desk didn't understand me. I literally had to ask 5 times over the phone for a 'do not disturb' sign, and he still didn't understand me, so he came up to our room. Turns out, they do not have 'do not disturb' signs. Their carpets looked like they had never been washed. They didn't even give us shampoo, and they gave us ONE bar of soap. Boyfriend found a bug on his pillow, and his other girlfriend got bit by a spider in bed. It was not fun.

The first day of the con itself made us all a little nervous. We got there early and helped MetalArtisan with his Oriental Fighting Arts of the Orient panel, which is always a blast. Then it was time to get down to the dealer's room. We were told that there were aroudn 3,000 attendees registered, and there were some great names on the guest list that I was very excited for as well. Unfortunately, that did not translate to actual customers... Until day 2 that is. Day 2 was MUCH better, and was punctuated by more fun moments as well!

I gave J. Michael Tatum (AKA Kyouya from Ouran High School Host Club, Sebastian from Black Butler, and a whole slew of other awesome characters from other awesome anime/games/etc) a goblet with the Ouran crest on it that I etched for him. He was super happy about it, and Todd Haberkorn commented on their matching set (I gave Todd a matching champagne flute at Glass City Comic con) so I was pleased that Todd liked his gift as well. I got to take a quick selfie with J. Michael Tatum, but then I had to run back to my booth because my goodness - all the customers! Let's just say that we're going to have a LOT of restocking and a few more extra commissions to do next month before Nyancon... I also had a lot of fun talking with Tasty Peach studio ^_^ It was our first time actually talking, though we've been to cons at the same time before. Can't wait to see you guys again at Youma! :D

That evening, we ran up to panel room 1 for the DC Douglas Albert Wesker Erotic Fanfiction panel - one of our personal favorites... We'd seen the panel at Youmacon last year and Anime Midwest this past year, and it's still awesome! There are always new fanfics he reads, and the new volunteers make the panel hilarious! This time, J. Michael Tatum showed up and DC had him come up as a volunteer. It was hilarious! I got a couple pics, but sorry guys - no filming was allowed. Just... use your imagination. Or better yet, come to the panel!

Sunday was pretty relaxing. We didn't do too awful much, but I did get to see some con-friends, which is always great! Next on our list is Nyancon - just barely a week away at this point! We loved Nyancon last year, so we'll be making them a special one of a kind etched glass with their mascot on it as our donation this year. We hope they love it as much as we love them!

Hey again everyone! Con season is coming to a close, but I've still got plenty of conventions to prepare for! We got back from Midoricon last Sunday, so I figured I'd let everyone know how it went, as well as let you know how I'm doing on commissions and what conventions we've recently been accepted to!

My table helpers and I decided to buy a dealer's space because we are really starting to expand our inventory. Unfortunately, even though the information we received called it a 'dealers package,' what we received (for more than twice the price of a single artist table) was a table (exactly the same size as the artist tables) in a room so cramped that we couldn't get our trolly with our merchandise down the aisle to get to our table. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they told us that table assignments were permanent. We were not pleased. We decided that, since the drive was only an hour and since there was no way that we could fit everything on our table even if we COULD get everything back TO our table, we would just request a refund and go home. The staffer was not pleased, nor was she very polite about our request.

When she got back from talking to the con chair about the issues we'd been having, she said that he would allow us to move to a table that we could actually get our things to. It was a corner, so we had a bit more table space. However, there was no way back behind our table. We, as well as our  neighbors, had to crawl under the table in order to get to our chairs. Can someone say fire hazard?

The sales were pretty terrible. NONE of the dealers were happy about it, and many of the artists I talked to had similar complaints. The artist alley was just awful - even though their tables were cheaper by more than half, I still felt sorry for them. Because of how many artists they actually booked, and because of how they set up the alley itself, no one seemed to be getting many sales, and many people went home early on Saturday. They didn't bother showing up on Sunday, and I couldn't blame them. I would have done the same thing, except our hotel was non refundable.

There wasn't even a program at this con. I was running a couple panels, but finding out the times of my panels was like pulling teeth. They had some great ideas for fun activities for the con, but since there was a thunder storm, many of them got cancelled. They didn't have a backup plan. At least that meant more people came to my panel, but I had to ask one of the volunteers to ID people for me since it was 18+ and it wasn't listed as such. I cancelled my other panel because I had requested it be during the afternoon when the dealer's area was closed. It was, instead, in the middle of the night. Ugh.

To top it all off, there was literally nowhere to eat for about 10 miles since this con was held at a nature preserve park. There was one restaurant in the building itself, but due to the allergies of me and my table helpers (and the poor quiality of the overpriced food) we all got sick. Double ugh.

The one GREAT thing that came out of Midoricon was that I made quite a few friends. The one 'ok' thing that came out of Midoricon is that, since we don't have too much to restock, I've had more time for finishing commissions. I've mailed out 2 this week, and I'm still plugging away at the rest :3 We also got to go out to eat with kuroitenshi13 again, which is always fun ^_^ Yey Vietnamese food! :D

NEW CONVENTIONS ADDED TO THE LIST:

In better news, I've been applying for conventions as soon as we see them go up, and we've had great luck for 2015 applications! Recent conventions I've been accepted to are:

*January 2-4 - Anime Zap, Embassy Suites, Peoria, IL - Since we were also accepted to Kollisioncon, we got permission to send some of our things with friends to this one.

*January 30 - February 1 - Ohayocon, Hyatt Regency Columbus Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio - My first Ohayocon - I'm so excited! Their last numbers were posted as 12,000 people in 2012, and I can only hope that it's that big or bigger this coming year!

*February 20-22 - Anime Crossroads - Wyndham Indianapolis West, Indianapolis, IN - We have a dealer's booth at this one. Our first time going. Wish us luck!

*July 4-7 - Anime Midwest - Hyatt Regency O'Hare, Chicago, IL - Probably our favorite 'big con' that we've done so far. I'm so excited to have gotten in for 2015! This time we bought TWO tables, because 1 was just WAY too cramped last year!

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*Finish prep for Ramencon (Buttons are done, just need to etch some glasses and mold some ears.)

*Design/order a vinyl sign for my booths

*Update more fun stuff to the DA!

*Apply for MORE cons! :D (Big Grin)

COMMISSION STATUSES:

1. Cammy Flauge heart perler for CammyFlauge - 20%
2. Perler commission for MasterSaruwatari - 0%
3. Catbug bracelet for Kigurumi Canada  - 0%
4. Vegeta & Capsule Corp cups for Megan - 10%
5. Elder Gods set of etched cups from Matsuricon: 0%

Slowly whittling away at them, thanks again to everyone for being so patient! I'll be sending a coupon with your orders for 20% off your next order with me as a show of my appreciation ^_^

Matsuricon Report (finally)

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 3, 2014, 11:12 AM

I know I promised this a while ago, but I've been so amped up for making stuff to sell at Midoricon and Ramencon later this month that I totally slacked. Sorry everyone! Matsuricon itself was not great... Before I start this rant, though, let me first thank Myra (the head of Artist Alley) and the select few con security members who went above and beyond for us.

When we got to the con itself, we were in for some unwanted changes. Matsuricon is an open alley - always has been, and it's one of the things that I liked about it last year. We get an influx of traffic when the dealer's room closes and then again when the night wears on and people are drunk or tired and want to shop lol. This year, though, the dealer's room had been moved to a tiny little previously-unused area upstairs. Artist alley was located both outside of that room and on the main floor where all the rest of the action was. Guess where our booth was...

Finding out that we were upstairs in an unused part of the convention center tucked away in a corner was... Not exciting. There were no panels upstairs and most of all there were no SIGNS. We had to direct people to the dealer's room and artists alley ourselves! And who has time for that when you're running an artist booth? We tried to keep our chins up, and we did fairly decently on Friday. Not as good as we'd hoped, obviously, considering the amount of traffic we didn't have access to, but we did ok.

We were crashing at lilly-peacecraft's place with NinjaLizzard and kuroitenshi13, along with one very adorable chubby kitty and one very petite neurotic kitty. Neurosi-kitty was a trip! She would randomly hop up, cuddle one of us, and then when we reached over to pet her she'd run away and hiss. It was hilarious, but a little disconcerting lol.

We got up early and went to the convention center to uncover our booth. The night before, we were assured that leaving everything set up was fine, and that there would be security cameras constantly running and the security officers would be checking the area once every 20 minutes. That was, apparently, not the case. One of our etched glasses (a $40 one) was broken. 3 more of them ($30 each) were missing. We were sharing a table with MetalArtisan and he had a pair of bracers and a pair of gloves go missing as well - about $150 in total from just his booth. We were not the only ones hit, either. Upstairs in our area, everyone in our row along with several others in the other 4 rows of artists had stuff stolen, uncovered, rifled through, etc.

When we asked to see the security cameras, we were told that they were facing the stairwell and a door. Useful... What we were able to tell from the cameras, though, was that the security sweeps were DEFINITELY not as frequent as we were told. When we asked to have some sort of compensation (all we wanted was our table comped) they told us no because that would be admitting liability. I'm sorry, but if you tell someone that there will be security sweeps every 20 minutes and we have video evidence that there was NOT, then I think that you should be liable.

To add insult to injury, we had a customer stop by that day who told us what he wanted to purchase and then proceeded to take his money out of his wallet. While we were getting his purchase out of our backstock, one of the staff members came by and escorted him out of the convention area because he didn't have a badge. I confronted the staffer about it and he said 'it's a closed area to the public.' Sure, I get that, but could you at least have waited until he finished making his purchase? When I talked to some other staffers about it, they said there was nothing that could be done because he was the head of con ops... Great. According to one of our staffer friends, all of the volunteers who helped run the panels quit because of him, so maybe this one will at least have some repercussions.

On Sunday, we did the rounds downstairs and talked to all the artists. Not many of them had anything nice to say about this year's Matsuricon. Compared to last year, it felt like the artist alley was just thrown together as an after thought. What's worse was that we were told that security would be stepped up on Saturday night due to the multiple thefts and other security issues. Even so, we had packed up everything and come in an hour early to set up again. Others weren't so lucky... Multiple artists had things stolen, even more than Friday night. I felt really bad, but even when the con chair was confronted with the mountain of complaints from all the artists, he wouldn't budge.

Unfortunately, we did so well financially at this convention that we basically have to go back. All I can do is hope that next year it will be better, and next year I will DEFINITELY be packing up every night.

Next is Midoricon, followed quickly by Ramencon. I've never been to either of them, but I've heard great things about both! I believe that MetalArtisan will be there too, so that promises a fun time. I'll be running 3 panels there, so if you're in the Oregon, Ohio area, make sure to come out and have a good time!

OTHER STUFF:
I got a new computer - FINALLY! That means I can get to work on some 2D stuff. Why, you ask? BECAUSE IT'S A TABLET PC! *super stoked* I've got some more button ideas in the works, so look for those as soon as I have time :D

I've been sewing again! :o I hope to have some new wearables by the time Youmacon rolls around, so wish me luck!

In sadder news, my CG artist for Convention Kiss had to back out :/ Because of this, I'm in the market for a new one! If you're interested, please feel free to check out the forum on Lemma Soft about it: lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/view… - I've got a few lines in the water, but if they don't work out then I'm going to be posting a journal ad for the game :3 Wish me luck!

Suprise - GenCon!

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 17, 2014, 10:30 PM

So Thursday night I was hanging out with my friends and preparing for Matsuricon when I got an email from Toni, the girl who runs Anime Crossroads artist alley. The email said that there was a free table at GenCon in the artist alley and that I could purchase it if I wanted to. I was SUPER excited - I didn't even apply to GenCon, so the fact that I had been sought out and offered a spot was super exciting! We made sure everything was in order and then set out that evening on the 4-hour drive to Indianapolis. The convention had already started (it's a 4-day gaming convention, and listed as one of the top 8 biggest in the US!) so we got a hotel for the night and crashed.

We set up Friday morning next to some awesome people (I'm looking at you, EllisArts!) and then waited. It was pretty slow at first, but the people started flooding in as soon as the first event let out. It was so much fun! I did a bunch of MTG drafts and actually came in 3rd for one of them (dorky, I know lol)! I got a TON of souvenirs - a new boardgame, 2 expansions, a play mat and some card sleeves for Magic, a Munchkin lanyard, a button from EllisArts, and best of all  a TON of new friends!

After the convention, we went out to eat with most of our new friends (Toni was busy :c) and made plans for Ohio Ren Faire, Midwest Entertainment Media Expo, and of course GenCon next year! This is so far my FAVORITE con as far as fun potential, so I will DEFINITELY be going back!

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*Finish prep for Matsuricon (even MORE to do now that half of our stock sold at GenCon @_@)

*Design/order a vinyl sign for my booths

*Apply for MORE cons! :D

COMMISSION STATUSES:

1. Stark Goblet for NinjaLizzard's sister - 50%
2. Cammy Flauge heart perler for CammyFlauge - 20%
3. Gray dragon ears for Kelsey - 0%

5. Catbug bracelet for Kigurumi Canada  - 0%
6. Vegeta & Capsule Corp cups for Megan - 0%
7. Another set of grey dragon ears for a customer from GenCon

Sorry for not getting much finished :c the surprise trip to Indianapolis ate up all my time! This week, though, will be spent busting my tail to get everything I can finished!

Cons: Old and New, Plus commissions

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 7, 2014, 10:53 AM

*Phew!* Things have been busy lately, tough I guess that's not much of a change lol. In an attempt to get in on this internet marketing thang, I figured I should update my journal, start in on my Tumblr again, Start posting/share in Facebook again, and make a Twitter. At this rate, I'll never have time to leave my computer for conventions xD But I'm gonna give it a try!

STILL TO DO:

*Finish Several Commissions (look for the list and status in this post!)

*Send out the monthly mailing list for August

*Add mailing list information to my website

*Add social network information to my website

*Finish prep for Matsuricon

*Design/order a vinyl sign for my booths

*Apply for MORE cons! :D

So yeah, not much time for anything at this point... But I figured that it's been so long since I've done an update that it was about time I updated my journal.

Thanks to pikachubuneary for the pic of the heart ponies (designed by BambooDog at my booth for Anime Midwest!

Anime Midwest was even better than last year. My whole framily went and we had a great time! I would totally buy a table there RIGHT NOW if they would let me lol! We played Battle Tech for the first time - wow! It was crazy! And the Battle Tech people may want us to commission them some cups with their logo on it, which would be awesome! We hung out with NinjaLizzard and her sister and sister's boyfriend for most of the con. OMG Chicago pizza FTW! I also ran a couple panels, which went great! It was my first time running panels at a big con, so I was SUPER nervous, but I really enjoyed myself, and so did the packed room!

After the AWESOME that was Anime Midwest, Atomic Lollipop was a bit of a let-down. The convention itself was just poorly done. The panels and entertainment were great (nerdy burlesque show and petting a lemur FTW!), but nobody was IDing anyone, there was underage drinking, smoking, and (excuse the phrase) boning everywhere, and the people running the convention couldn't give me any information on any of the panels or even where things were being held. I definitely won't be back, if only because of the inattention to the illegal activities that were present.

Glass City Comic Con was a refreshing little con in Ohio. We hung out a lot with kuroitenshi13 and lilly-peacecraft and I will be crashing with lilly-peacecraft for Matsuricon in a couple weeks. Can't wait! We'll HOPEFULLY be stopping by and grabbing kuroitenshi13 if we can squeeze enough space into my new car :3 We did manage to take a break after the con itself and get some AMAZING Vietnamese food with our friends, and the next day we headed back down to Toledo for a visit to the zoo with kuroitenshi13, which was awesome! I'd never been, and I am totally willing to go again!

Next was Go!Daiko con. It's a pretty small convention, and they seem to have a lot of staffing issues (mostly staff members quitting and not sharing what information they had saved up for the rest of the staff to use). The dealers and artist were shoved together in one small room, which meant that, while we were ALLOWED to have 2 people per artist booth, we only had room for 1. The tables were TINY - only 6 x 1 ft, so we had to get an extra one. This was also our first try with not bringing any perlers to a convention, since we didn't think we'd have the room. That all being said, I had a great time! I ran my panels again, with the help of the awesome DJM, and we sold more than I expected!

In even BETTER news, when I talked to the con chair about some of my concerns with the convention itself, he offered me the job of being Artist Alley Head for 2015! I have some serious changes I'd love to make, and Steve, the con chair, seems more than willing to let me do so! I can't wait to help whip this little con into shape!

And now it's time for a breather... but not really. I've got a TON of commissions I need to work on from last month's con craze! If you have a commission that you purchased from me and are still waiting on it, please don't fret! You are foremost in my mind for the next 2 weeks at least!

COMMISSION STATUSES:

1. Zelda Wedding: Shot glasses - 100%, Champagne flutes - 70%, center pieces - 30%
2. Stark Goblet for NinjaLizzard's sister - 50%
3. Cammy Flauge heart perler for CammyFlauge - 20%
4. Gray dragon ears for Kelsey - 0%
5. Perler commission for MasterSaruwatari - 0%
6. Catbug bracelet for Kigurumi Canada  - 0%
7. Vegeta & Capsule Corp cups for Megan - 0%

Sorry for the delay guys - thanks for being so patient with me! The Zelda wedding is eating all my time - 2 VERY INTRICATE champagne flutes, 2 shot glasses, and 20 center pieces before the 9th of August @_@ lots to do! My goal is to get everyone their commissions before Matsuricon! Everyone else's commissions are much more manageable and should fly by in the next couple weeks before Matsuricon :3 Until next time...

Relaxing? Whats That?

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 5, 2014, 4:29 PM

So sorry I've been totally absent for so long - May was crazy! I had a con almost every weekend - it was insane! First, the cons. Shinbokucon was pretty fun and definitely unique! They had some programming on Thursday, which was pretty rad. They even had a free Japanese/Chinese/French fusion buffet. I really don't know what else to call it lol. There was sushi and pork buns and fondu - it was great! It was my first time trying fondu and I gotta say, I totally see the appeal! The rest of the con was rather small, but I met some great people and had a good time with them. I'll probably go back next year but as an artist instead of a vendor.

Midwest Media Expo was our next con. It was put on by the same people who throw the biggest Michigan anime con (Youmacon) and I gotta say, it lived up to the hype! I was worried with it being a first year con and all, but there were a ton of people and they were all really cool. I'm totally on board for next year. I might even try to go vendor by then!

Anime Park is still rather tiny, but it holds a special place in my heart. They were my third ever convention, so I am willing to give them a little more leeway than other cons. It wasn't really needed this year, though - I bought 2 vendor spaces and was not disappointed with that choice! We got a spot right by the entry way as well, so we got a ton of foot traffic. As always, stoked for next year!

The Electronica Expo was the biggest let down of May... I thought that this would be the place to break out from primarily doing perlers and to showcase some of our great new merch, but it was pretty much a bust. It was only $1 to get in, but no one really showed up. I made all of my sales from fellow vendors and friends. We still made money, though, so who knows? Maybe next year will be better.

Animinneapolis was the big wild card of the month. It was our first time going to this particular con, but it was put on by the same person who runs Anime Midwest and Meta Con, which were great for us. It was SUPER far though and gas was expensive, but since I got my new car, it was better than it could have been. The staff was great, as always, and we made enough to consider driving the 12 hours back out there next year!

We also have introduced a new product to our lines - cosplay ear cuffs! Let us know what you think by commenting on this latest deviation:

Custom Leaf Fairy Cosplay Ears

They are made from a thermal plastic and are totally adjustable and customizable. We can make them for any costume you want and to fit any size ears or match any color skin tone! Starting at just $25, we think it's a screaming deal.

So last month was so crazy that this month we purposely didn't book any conventions. We all need time to recoup and work on projects that will improve our business model as a whole, as well as work on commissions. Our list for this month consists of:

*A new (but simple) cosplay I want to get done for Anime Midwest.

*A Zelda-themed wedding commission with at least 2 etched glasses and 12 table center pieces.

*Updating the site as much as we possibly can

*Working on some new sewing projects

*Getting my sewing machine fixed and ready to embroider :o

*Recreating all the awesome etched glass that sold last month

*Ordering more business cards

*Ordering a vinyl sign to make us look more professional at cons

*Getting some of our new equipment figured out

*Potentially spinning off the perlers into their own side-business and refocusing the brand name Lilly Inverse

*A bunch of other secret projects and things I can't remember :P

So yeah... Not really any time to relax this month, unfortuantely :C But hey - I'm still having fun working for myself and working with my chosen family, doing what I love, and making fellow fans happy! As always, I totally love and appreciate all of my fans who have made my dream of sustaining myself completely on convention income possible! Hope to see you all next month!

Shuto's Over, Shinboku on the Horizon!

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 7, 2014, 10:40 AM

OMG I'M SO OVERWHELMED! I got home from Shutocon yesterday and it was a blast! It was my first Shutocon, my first Birthday Con, and my first time selling the etched glass. ALL of it went swimmingly! The glasses were a HUGE hit - we sold almost half of them, including our 3 most expensive designs! I'm super proud and super encouraged by this! I can't wait for Shuto next year - I had soooo much fun!

We also learned a lot from this con - there are some things about our business model that we need to change and improve. For one, two people with the occasional help of a few friends is NOT enough for the amount of stock we need! That means we need to at least attempt to hire some employees, which is scary but exciting. We also were so overwhelmed this weekend that I think we lost some business due to people not being able to get our attention. We're going to try to price EVERYthing before the next con so that things will be labeled and no one will have to try to get our attention for pricing questions. We need a better way to display the cups and glasses - they were all just out on the table, but they were overwhelming for people to sift through and try to look at each design. Lastly, we learned that we've got to EXPAND! We've been sticking to midwest cons, but I think that we're finally to the point where we can expand across the country. It's so exciting! But still a little scary :o

Part of our distraction was due to buttons - I've been cutting back on my button inventory since the beginning when I realized which designs sold verses which didn't, but I've also been adding to it as I gain more fandoms and get more ideas! Because of this, I have over 7 gallons of buttons. I keep my buttons individually bagged, sorted, and in gallon-sized plastic bags, but that's just not cutting it! Even when all of one fandom is in one bag, if that bag is overflowing, it takes several minutes to sift through the bags to find the specific button, and many customers were just walking away during our 'sifting' time. Even with 4 of us at the booth, we need a better button storage system.

Next weekend is Shinbokucon, which is ANOTHER couple of firsts for me. It will be my first Shinbokucon for one, my first con where I move into a dealer's space and my first time hosting a panel! I've helped friends run a few in the past, but this is my first time being the head honcho :o It will also, hopefully, be the first time for implementing all these good new business practices. Wish  me luck!

To do:
*Count the beads in my new perler designs
*Post ALL my art here and on my website
*Get price tag stickers & price everything
*Get/make a tiered stand of some sort to display the glasses
*Get a better system for button storage.
*Etch more glasses
*Make more perlers
*Order more beads
*Work on my panel for next weekend (OMG I'M NERVOUS!)
*Train my first EMPLOYEES! :o
*Thank EVERYone who liked my art on DA ;3
*Apply to more cons!
*Buy Wunderflex for a SUPER SECRET NEW PROJECT!
*BREATHE!!!

Things Are Changing So Quickly!

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 1, 2014, 1:38 PM

Looking to see what you can buy from Lilly Inverse Designs? Visit Our Website!

I need to invent a time machine. Seriously. Time is SO fleeting! Where the heck does it keep going!?

Since last time I updated, I went to one of my favorite cons in the area - Animarathon in Bowling Green, Ohio. Ok, so '3 hours away' isn't EXACTLY in the area, but it's close enough for me ;3  So far it was my best con this year (both financially AND fun-wise!) and I got an invite to be back next year. Yey!

In other news, I've decided to move away from the world of perlers as my main medium of creating art. I will still do them, but I won't be focusing on them exclusively, or even primarily. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE perlers and pixel art, and they do GREAT at cons! But con life is getting a little more competitive, so I've got to keep up with the times and move on. Move on to what, you ask?

Attack of Titan Wings of Freedom Etched Glass by LillyInverse

Ta da! Etched glasses! These will be my primary focus at conventions, but don't fret! I will still be making buttons, perlers, arm warmers, leg warmers, cloth masks, skirts, and all my other wonderful products that you have come to know and love! These glasses will debut this weekend at Shutocon.

I will be at table HH at Shutocon. Stop by and say that you read My journal to get 10% off your entire purchase this weekend, including the shiny new etched glasses! I have over 20 designs to choose from, but I only made one of each glass, so get there quick! I will be making duplicates, but I didn't have time for this con.

But never fear! I have my updated con schedule (with THREE cons in April!) where you can find me and all of my wares! Hope to see you there ;3

(x) *January 3-5 - Anime-ZAP, Embassy Suites, East Peoria, IL

BIG News: Cons and Noir Leather!

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 15, 2014, 12:54 PM

Looking to see what you can buy from Lilly Inverse Designs? Check out Our Website!

First, a very belated Happy New Year! So much has happened since my last update; I really need to be better about updating this thing >.<

Biggest news first - I'm an official supplier for Noir Leather! Keith, the owner, loved my arm warmers so much that he put in an order from me and I dropped them off yesterday. Can't wait to see how well they sell! If you're interested in getting a pair of my arm warmers from Noir Leather, they are located at 124 W 4th St, Royal Oak, MI 48067. I am SUPER proud to have my work displayed there, and will be working hard to add pictures of all of the products I sold to Keith so that everyone can enjoy them :3

This whole thing with Noir ahs inspired me to push myself! I want to become a legit fashion designer, and the only way I am going to do that is to start branding myself (hence the snazzy logo/header of this journal :D) and getting more of my clothing designs out there. Look for more to come from me in the future!

For the rest of you around the country, never fear! I'm still doing conventions! I had Con Alt Delete in December with LittleHouseCrafting followed by Anime Zap in January again with LittleHouseCrafting. As for my upcoming schedule, I've cut it down to just 2014 to help you guys find me :3

Oh my gosh I feel like Nyancon was like 2 weeks ago, but in reality YOUMA was only ONE week ago! :O Nyancon was great! For a smaller, on day con, LittleHouseCrafting and I did great! And the staff there were super helpful! We were totally exhausted, so we stayed in a hotel before heading home the next day.

My life after Nyancon was a blur of sewing costumes, making perlers, and working my 'regular jobs'. When Youma finally came, I felt woefully unprepared while we were setting up, then I felt like I probably overdid it when we saw the amount of people that were there... Friday was pretty terrible for sales for both LittleHouseCrafting and I, but Saturday and Sunday picked up a lot. And the best part was, we went with a couple awesome friends, saw even MORE friends at the con, and came home with a couple new friends as well :3 I have TONS of pics, never fret! But I have yet to go through them and upload them lol. When I do, I'll do a separate folder for Youmacon 2013 pictures. There were some phenomenal cosplays that need to be shown off!

Since this marks the end of con season and the school year coming to a close, I'm setting a goal for myself. A end-of-year resolution, if you will. I am going to have EVERY perler I've made uploaded here and to my website (Lilly Inverse Designs) so that everyone can purchase their holiday gifts. I'm going to aim to have this done before the next con, which is Con Alt Del in Chicago, IL. Wish me luck, and prepare for a huge influx of new designs!

As always, I'll end it with my con schedule, but since we're getting close to the end of the year, I've added next year's potential cons as well :D

As always, if there are any conventions you think I should check out, let me know! :3
Hello again everyone! I'm still celebrating the awesome fun that was Northern Michigan Anime Con, but I figured I should get into the habit of updating even when I'm busy having fun :3

NMA was great fun! I went with the wonderful LittleHouseCrafting (who had her own table) and the awesome DJM who is the main host for the Nanashi Anime Podcast which I cohost. We stayed in LittleHouseCrafting's family cabin up in Baldwin, which was about an hour south of Traverse City itself.

We went fishing, one of my favorite pastimes! And, of course, LittleHouseCrafting (who hadn't been fishing since she was little) was the only one to catch anything. Five perch, one of which was a pretty big one!

And then this little guy... xD

Even though I didn't catch ANYthing, it was still fun. We got a nice pontoon ride around the lake and saw a pretty sunset...

And lots of loons.

Not just the ones in the boat either ;3

Later that night, we brought out my giant telescope (10 inch Dob, for you fellow amateur astronomers out there ;3) and gazed at the wonders of the universe. I successfully found and showed off the ring nebula, the great Hercules cluster, Alberio, an open cluster in Cygnus, and another globular cluster in Hercules. It was a fun time for sure! I wish I had a tracking scope so I could show off some astrophotography, but alas, that's still on my 'wish list' ;3

The con itself was small, about 300 people, but we met up with :devMetalArtistan:, which is always fun! Our booth was right next to Ra-chans, and she was super nice and has adorable plushies! If I had made more moolah, I totally would have grabbed one xD We didn't really go to any panels - again, the con was too small, but we met some cool people and sold some stuff. LittleHouseCrafting even made a video of our booths :D

Check it out!

The somewhat-good news is that we have almost a month until our next con - Nyancon. Nyancon is October 5th in Kirtland, Ohio, and it is one of the two remaining cons for this con season. It is swiftly followed by Youmacon in our hometown (yey for not having to get a hotel room :D) and that will be the end of con season. We'll have a big breather through November - time to stock up! Then it's back to the fun of cons with Con Alt Delete in December. We hope to see you along the way! :D Look forward to lots of new designs here between then and now ^_^
Ok, so technically it was almost TWO months, but hey! I've been SUPER busy! So let's start with the first con - Fandomfest. It was not good. I will not be returning. LittleHouseCrafting and MetalArtisan feel the same. The trip was great fun, though, thanks to those two! And I got to see Gillian Anderson and John Barrowman, which was kinda cool. I didn't really meet them, but I got a couple pics of Gillian Anderson at her panel, so that was cool.

Go!Daiko Con was pretty great! Especially since it was close to my hometown - close enough to not need to rent a hotel room! Not paying extra in gas and hotel costs means that overhead was MUCH higher. Beyond the financial awesomeness, I also had quite a few friends there! I will DEFINITELY be applying for Go!Daikocon 2014, can't wait until next year! The staff was great and My cosplay meetup group, Semicos - Southeast Michigan Cosplayers, had a great time at the rave, hanging out in the dealer's room, playing Cards Against Humanity, and so much more! It was definitely the most fun I've had a con since Anime Midwest!

After Go!Daikocon was Matsuricon. Another con with LittleHouseCrafting and MetalArtisan and it was great as well! We're all in agreement that Matsuricon has the best venue of any con we've been to so far. There was a huge food court with great, affordable food right downstairs from the Artist Alley. The AA was open, which was new. But because of this fact, we were able to make our own hours, which was super cool! I also got to meet a couple Visual Novel creators, one of which made the first otome game I ever played! It was super cool, and both of them had some REALLY great info for me and for my VN-journey! I also got to meet the awesome kuroitenshi13 and see her amazing art in person! She was super awesome, as most deviants are, and I hope we get to meet up again at other cons in the future!

Right on the tails of Matsuricon, the very next weekend in fact, was Metacon just this past weekend. It was by far the fartheest I've gone for any con! In fact, it was the longest road trip I'd taken since I was very young. Who knew Minneapolis was that far away? My boyfriend and business partner came with LittleHouseCrafting and I to this one, which was a great change! We all made some AMAZING friends!!! And I can't WAIT to see some of them again at Youmacon! We also got to see the GREAT crew from Anime Midwest - the same people ran the Artist Alley at both places, so it was cool to see old friends! We will be seeing them again at Con Alt Delete, which is awesome!

All these wonderful cons one right after another has gotten me super fired up! I've got one more coming next weekend, one I hadn't planned on doing but that LittleHouseCrafting and I got accepted to last minute - Northern Michigan Anime Con. It's close-ish to home - it's in Michigan, but it's really far north, so it's still about a 4-5 hour drive. Good news is that LittleHouseCrafting's family has a cabin up that way, so we might not have to rent a hotel room :D Bad news is... It's this weekend @_@ I have no idea how I'm going to restock after nearly selling out at Metacon! Luckily, I have an awesome boyfriend and a great friend and helper in LittleHouseCrafting to help me out ^_^

For those of you waiting on commissions - I REALLY appreciate how patient you're being! I'm still so totally swamped with prepping for Northern Michigan Anime Con that I haven't even been able to make the order for the beads for restock, let alone commissions yet! You guys are still being super awesome about waiting on me. Thanks sooooo much!

I have plans, after NMA, to upload all the products that I haven't had a chance to list here or on my website, Lilly Inverse Designs. Lastly, here's my updated con schedule for 2013! I'll be working on my plans for 2014 in the coming weeks, so look forward to that soon as well! Until next time :D
