Fortuna Publica by lillilotus Fortuna Publica by lillilotus
After a lengthy (one-sided, on my part) conversation between myself and :iconhamjapanuk: about how the island of Fortuna, the setting for devil May Cry 4, could be an island off the coast of Italy (for religious reasons). I ended up writing up about 10 paragraphs on how Fortuna reminds of Southern Italy (Vatican, Rome, Sorrento, Capri in particular) and how Fortuna could really be set geographically close to Capri.

Because it's coming up to nearly a year since I visited Capri, I looked through my old photos and found a photo of one of the libraries (?) on Capri. It only took that 1 idea to get me to paint this picture of Nero and Kyrie. The actual setting was taken from the library photo, and a random photo of a sea view that I took during the day.

the writing on the wall sign says
"FORTUNA PUBLICA
XIV AD
JUNO XI
NISI DOMINUS FRUSTRA"

It translates as
"FORTUNE TO THE PEOPLE
14 AD
JUNE 11
WITHOUT GOD, WE ARE IN VAIN"

The "FORTUNE TO THE PEOPLE" I felt was relevant for obvious reasons (there was another version that said "Fortune to the Knights" which would also have worked, but I left it out. Might revisit it later though) "14 AD" I think was the year the first Roman Emperor, Augustus, died (there's a garden in Capri dedicated to him; I wanted a reference to him in here) June 11th is a significant year to the Goddess Fortuna, who the island was named after, and "without God, we are in vain" is relevant because Fortuna's people worship Sparda, and see him as a God (NISI DOMINUS FRUSTRA is also on my school jumper)

Art copyright to me!
Kyrie and Nero copyright to capcom!
