"─The Scottish Cailleach Bheur, a skinny witch with a blue face as if from the cold, is a divine hag and ancestor, associated with the creation of the landscape and with the weather, especially storms and winter. In modern Scottish folklore studies, she is also known as Beira, Queen of Winter. The word literally means "old woman, hag".

The Cailleach displays several traits befitting the personification of winter: she herds deer (They are her cattle: she grazes and milks them, often saves them from hunters), she fights spring, and her staff freezes the ground.

Each Halloween, Kaliah is reborn and then walks on the ground, hammering shoots into it with the staff and invoking snow. On the eve of May 1, she throws her staff into a gorse bush (Ulex) or under a holly(Ilex) - both plants are considered her symbols - and turns into a gray stone."- bestiary[.]us and Wikipedia
