It great to see different traditions... In England we have Mummers plays and the Hooden Horse around Christmas and the New Year,  the Hooden Horse somewhat resembles the Crane character in your painting! :)

Reminds me of Polish Kolędnicy as well, so I guess some Baltic and Slavonic traditions really mix :) It's nice to find out something new about cultures in a lovely piece like yours!
