Many had been complaining for days of loud sounds echoing throughout night and day from the mountains nearby. Many riders and their Tokotas had been ordered to keep out of the area to let the problem sort itself but after several days of this it was clear it wasn’t.
The order was made for it to be handled after some TCA officials found the body of a wild dire Tokota. The news that at least one pack involved had dires in it was distressing news. Dire bloodlines were valuable and wild dire bloodlines were crucial to the preservation of the build. Because of where the fights seemed to be occurring, the TCA and many riders feared Fenrir could be involved himself – one of the few pure dires remaining.
It took time for them to decide how to handle it but it was concluded that another dire would need to go in to handle it – one that would have the power to sway the war to an end.
The elders gathered to seek the help of those in the stars or even Aippaq itself. If they sent the wrong Tokota they would be sending it to its death.
When the sun rose the next morning, the elders had their answer though many seemed befuddled by it.
The color of a cloudy day and a ‘flip of the west’ were the messages given to them. It was immediately apparent whom it spoke of - the big, fanged dire ROdent
The elders first approached ROdent’s handler, explaining what they’d been told. They’d had to do no persuading. Either the rider was extremely confident in the dire’s abilities or they didn’t care.
No matter, the elders gave ROdent a big meal that day, checked his health then sent him on his way by nightfall when the fighting seemed the most intense. It would be the more likely time to find the two packs together.
ROdent set off leisurely. Not long after the sun was beneath the horizon, the auroras could be seen dancing above him.
Aippaq, most likely. The big dire thought. The Tokota god was watching his actions – this would be more than just stopping the fighting. Aippaq’s guiding presence was a sign that he was beginning his path to becoming an Alpha. It was an honored title acquired by few but it would also mean a longer journey than just going into the Tartoks.
The sky had the slightest tinge of a color other than dark blue when the two packs came into view. The fighting had been going on for a while but neither side seemed to have suffered any fatalities though it looked as though that could change.
Fingers of light began to climb their way up the foothills as Fenrir stepped into the fray. Many Tokotas bowed out at his presence but the leader of the other pack remained.
They were going to fight.
ROdent moved with more of a purpose for the first time, flying down the hill in the cover of darkness. He sent snow flying as a skidded to a halt between the two dires into the light.
Fenrir roared at the lilac dire. ROdent snarled back, looking back and forth between the two Tokotas.
The other dire charged. ROdent met his charge with equal ferocity. The two scrambled for power before finally the lilac dire slammed the other to the ground.
As soon as the pinned dire was able to get up it led its pack off the Tartok Foothills. ROdent turned his attention to Fenrir then. The bigger halfmaned dire stared down the domesticated dire for a moment before snorting and turning to his own pack to leave.
ROdent watched their departure back up into the Tartok Mountains. He was alone then – well, aside from his deer companion that had remained a safe distance away.
The big, lilac dire felt worry grip at his chest. This had resolved too easily.
