It always seems impossible until it is done - Nelson Mandela
Hello! I'm Lina, a 23 year old self-taught artist, who has been trying to find her way through deviantart for the past couple of years. I try to improve my skills with every drawing I make, though I sometimes find that easier said than done. Most of my drawings come into existance with the help of referencepictures, but sometimes I just draw what comes to mind. I never use techniques like grids or mirrors. I just sketch out my drawing, keep tweaking it until I'm satisfied, and then start refining it. This is the reason my drawings are never quite the same as the reference pictures they were drawn from, but I'm okay with it when the 'feeling' is there.
How long have you been on DeviantArt?
I have been on Deviantart for over seven years now; I joined somewhere around October 2007. It's been quite a long time, now I think about it!
What does your username mean?
My username is a nickname that was given to me by the father of a childhood friend. It kind of stuck and it has become my online name, so to speak.
Describe yourself in three words.
Helpful, Strong-willed, insecure (working on that one)
Are you left or right handed?
I'm right handed.
What was your first deviation?
If I remember correctly, my first deviation was a grey-scale drawing of a young girl. I don't have it online anymore, so I'm not sure. It might also have been a photograph.
What is your favourite type of art to create?
I mostly enjoy traditional drawings made with regular pencils. As for the subject: my favourite is a portrait, with a touch of my own ideas.
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Does making music/playing piano count? Otherwise I'd love to be more skilled in digital arts and photoshop.
What was your first favourite?
Honestly, I had to look this up. I had no idea, but apparently my first favourite was a drawing made by Kiraya00: Housy. Also, it turns out I have 275 pages of favourites, woops.
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
It's quite varied, I think. Mostly drawn art though, be it digital or traditional.
Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
I don't have an all-time favourite. There are just too many great artists out there to choose one!
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I don't care much for meeting people 'in real life' from Deviantart. But I guess that's also because I don't have an outstanding favourite artist or people on the website I often talk to. I'd probably be very boring to meet and I wouldn't know what to talk about anyway, haha.
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Not a fellow deviant in particular, but Deviantart in general has made me a way better artist. All the inspiration, tutorials and simply other people's art have really helped me develop my skills!
What are your preferred tools to create art?
As mentioned, my preferred tools are simple pencils. Sometimes coloured or mechanical ones, but mostly the plain old tools ranging 8B to 4H. Oh, and erasers and smudge-sticks/tissues of course!
What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Just my own room with my own desk. Though I have to say, being in Brittany, France this year has provided me with some very needed inspiration to start drawing again. I'm currently working on a portrait and I had to dust of my tools before I could start. Brittany is truly beautiful. The cliffs and beaches, little harbours with the cutest little fishing boats, the flora (hydrangeas!) and of course the little place of Pont Aven all stirred up some inspiration!
What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Browsing Deviantart in search of inspiration for my school works. Being with friends and classmates in the room where we had art history lessons, drawing classes and a lot of fun. Also, my daily deviation!
