I have finally finished work on my new web page. It is now more dynamic, prettier and has more content. It existed before, but it needed an upgrade. Since I wanted to upgrade it's multilingual system it turned out I had to do it from the scratch and loose all the comments and guestbook. But, I don't care, I love it how it looks right now, I can start from the beginning. :)

Anyhow, you are all welcome, take a look and give comments and feedback if you have time.

Thank you for your time!

First of all I wish you all happy new year and all the best!
I hope you had a good time and that you tried to stay optimistic in these rough times of uncertainty. Sometimes it seems to me everything, in the form we know it, is falling apart. World order, economy, the way we live. It's not perfect, but it's the way we're used to. And the most discouraging fact is that you and I cannot do anything about it, just stay on the side and watch it happens. Because nobody asks us what we want in the first place. Big guys decide.
Ok, now I'll stop with the bad thoughts...

I'm not around here too much but I try to make some time for DA anyway. My new year, in photographic aspect, has started really well. I've already done some great photo shoots, and it's only been 11 days. :)
That was one of my new year's resolutions: to shoot more. I realized I spent past year stuck in front of the computer most of the time, buried with work and forgetting what's it all about: shooting. Going out, spending some time in nature, observing and enjoying. That's when photos come by themselves and inspiration stops being a problem. I hope I will be able to stick to that whole year, there's enough time for processing when good light is gone.

Anyhow, I wanted to invite you to join my Facebook page if you like, and send me link to yours if you have one. I'd be glad to join you too. Here is the link:

Than you all!

Foto Ars Danubia

Journal Entry: Wed May 25, 2011, 1:11 PM
Following couple of days will be very interesting, I’m sure of it. Tomorrow, I’m going to the annual  photography meeting  which takes place in Baranja, beautiful, plain and verdant countryside on the eastern part of Croatia, by the Danube river. All days shooting, beautiful nature, a bit of education and lots of good time – all that with the best Croatian photographers. Also, I’m looking forward to finally see Baranja, part of Croatia I’ve only read about so far. Croatia has many types of landscapes, but I have never seen it’s plains…

Foto Ars Danubia 2011

On 2010 Foto Ars Danubia took place in small village of Erdut. This year, our host is ethno village Karanac, from 26th till 29th of May.

The reason for choosing Baranja as the meeting point is very simple – Baranja is full of beautiful, ‘photogenic’ landscapes, interesting people, picturesque villages and rich with animal and plant life. To make things more interesting, people from Canon Croatia will introduce to us many professional Canon cameras and lenses and also newest technical solutions for aerial shooting with remote controlled helicopters.

Detail from Foto Ars Danubia 2010:

Photographers who will take part in this event are:

Zoran Osrečak
Mario Romulić
Dražen Stojčić

I hope we’ll have a good weather up there (not too dull and not too rainy, thank you) and I hope to take many unforgettable photos and make many good contacts with other photographers.

I'm so excited! This was quite a surprise today, I was stunned when I opened my message center.

Since my DA subscription ended a while ago, (my credit card expired and I'm not able to renew it at the moment), I cannot embed the photo. So, I'll just paste the DD text under it:

Suggester says; The panoramic shot lets the viewer take in the full beauty of this waterfront urban scene emerging into a lovely sunrise.

**UPDATE: An anonymous deviant gifted me 3 months Premium Membership to deviantART. What can I say? I'm excited, exalted, honored, thankful and extremely, extremely happy!! Happy to have such great friends in this community. :)
This will make my DA experience comfortable as always until my new credit card arrives.

No one could have imagined or predicted the sheer size of disaster.... I still cannot believe it.
A week ago I thought things would be just fine. Japan is used to earthquakes and stuff... It shakes almost every day, I thought.... But all of this just blows my mind.

I'm inspired by your strength, pride, discipline and dignity...
You are unique nation, and that's what I want you all to know.

100 years

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 18, 2011, 1:40 PM
I think you should see this.

Last weekend football (soccer) fans celebrated 100 years of the football club Hajduk from my hometown Split (Croatia).
It all began in Split in early 1900s, but officially it was founded on February 13th 1911 in Prague (Czech republic) by some bunch of students and football lovers from Split who were going to Prague university. They named it Hajduk and wrote the very first club statute.

During the century the club had it's ups and downs (now it's in 'down' stage) and I'm not that much of a football fan, but I admire how loyal and fervent Hajduk's fans are. And even more I like how organized the celebration was. :D

Here is the video of the birthday celebration. The fireworks were stunning, whole Dalmatia region was full of murals, flags and decoration in honor of the beloved club. Enjoy!

And don't miss the part after the 1:30 minutes. The sky was burning!…

Vienna - lines, shapes, diagonals

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 10, 2011, 12:31 PM
I spent New Year holidays in Vienna. The city was cold, frozen, yet beautifully decorated. Although those few days were reserved for friends, food and toasts, I managed to take some photos.
However, to walk through the city with ‘non-photographers’ and have even a minute of time to shoot was very difficult. It all came down to  snapshooting and catching up with them.

We took long walks. Anywhere outside the centre the streets were empty – here and there some people muffled almost to the eyebrows passed-by, while bone-chilling wind was freezing our faces and dispersing confetti across the frozen Danube surface. Yet, the place filled me with ideas; architecture, lines or monochromatic simplicity. Winter, lack of colors and deserted streets simply reveal such motives.

If you'd like to see rest of the photos, click on the image :)

It all comes down to simple things

Good photography doesn't allow much sleep

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 15, 2010, 10:26 AM
I almost forgot how good it feels to wake up in the crack of dawn, see and feel the mood of the first sun rays. In the moments like that and in that kind of light - beautiful photography is created. As far as the photography's concerned you may sleep the rest of the sunny day :D :D
But don't forget dawn and sunset.

Past few months I didn't obey that rule either. But last Saturday with my fellow photographers reminded me of just how good is to start a day like that. Don't hesitate, gather few of your friends, go to a nearby location (you don't have to be in a national park to have nice photos) and enjoy. :)

Journal Entry: Mon May 17, 2010, 5:31 AM
Today I became a proud owner of the Canon Pixma 9000 mkII printer. I'm really looking forward to some nice prints on my wall, it seems like a very good photo printer.

Anyhow, if some of you were using this or similar printer, I have a few questions like which paper is best to use, is it too big difference if I used cheapest or expensive paper? Does it matter which brand of paper it prints on, etc...?

If you save me some googling, I'll be very grateful :D :D

Take care,

Wow, I'm speechless right now...

After I opened DA account today, I was really stunned. 1600+ feedback messages. I thought it was a mistake :D :D

My deviation 'On the fortress' was Daily Deviation on March 20th. And I am really, really happy about that.

My new, shiny web page

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 8, 2010, 3:38 PM
Hello dear friends!

I was away from this site and other communities for some time. But I've been very busy with a project really important to me: my own web page (finally).

It took a lot of thinking about concept, reading of how it should be properly done, which engine to use, how to be search engine friendly, which template to use and - most important of all: content. THE magic word :D

I have chosen blog and gallery concept (not just online portfolio page) cause I'd like to show some photos and write small stories from my journeys. It will be a lot more difficult to update, but I just love challenges. I wanted a reason more for people to visit my site. I'll do my best for it to be like that in the future.

Since I'm not a programmer, and I have only basic knowledge of web programming, I have used Wordpress engine for the blog part, and TTG Auto index / TTG Highslide Lightroom plugins for generating galleries. Only small changes I have made by coding.

Also, as some of you know I'm from Croatia, but I'd like to attract and address a broader audience, so I decided to make it bilingual - you can choose between Croatian and English language. Only galleries are made completely in English. It takes a lot of effort to translate blog posts to English (that's why there are so few of them at the moment), but I'm working on them very hard :D
I hope all of you English speakers will forgive me my language mistakes in the posts and on the page. It's a lot easier to read a foreign language than to write it in meaningful and correct way.

So, let's cut to the case, here's a link

If you have any suggestions, critique, opinion, feel free to write it in the comments or notes, I'll be more than glad to hear them and to change anything that needs or has to be changed, cause it's still a kind of beta version and I'll be glad to change it in a way to make it a more pleasant place. :)

Thank you in advance!

My dear deviants and friends, it's time to say bye bye till next year :D :D

I have to start packing my bags and camera, and dive out of this virtual world for some time. Next 5 days I'll be spending in a mountain cottage with my best friends, in the continental part of Croatia.
I'm looking forward to few days of resting, laughing, little shooting and, of course, no computer, internet, phones, stress, rush...
We'll celebrate New year's eve, eat well and have fun. Not a bad plan, huh? :)

I wish you the happiest year, lots of love, health and money. New, shiny camera of your dreams would come in handy too :D  Also, I wish you tons of good light and even better photos in the next year. And most of all: have fun and enjoy everything you have.

Off to Lika

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 7, 2009, 6:43 AM
Hi ya all!

Next 4 days I will be spending in the continental part of Croatia. I'm going to Lika, an area where the National park Plitvice lakes is located. I hope to find some nice landscapes there and to relax and enjoy the nature a little.

The autumn is still not in it's full glow here, (better to say, it's still summer), the weather is too hot and sunny for this time of the year and people still go to the beaches. Next week the weather is finally changing, so I think I will have to be back there in a week or two for some real autumn shots.

But I'm still looking forward to spending four days wandering around the woods, rivers and lakes...
See you soon!

A new experience and piece of equipment

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 22, 2009, 5:40 AM
Haven't heard from me for a long time, huh? :D
Well, past month has been rather busy and chaotic period. I had my sister's wedding at the beginning of September and it took a lot of work to prepare everything, since the wedding reception took place in our garden. I took a lot more work, time and effort than to organize it in a restaurant or a wedding hall or somewhere else. But it was beautiful and worth every second of work. It was very different from the traditional Croatian weddings - extraordinary and beautiful celebration  :)

And, it was my second wedding to shoot. I didn't have to jump around them all the time, I have had a lot of fun too, but I wanted to do that for them. :) I'm really satisfied with the photos and how I've done it (since I have very little experience in shooting that kind of events), and most important of all - the bride and the groom were satisfied too.

I just have to say, after shooting only two weddings so far, I appreciate that job even more. It looks so easy and simple when you look at it from aside, but when I had to do it - man, it's a heavy physical work, besides the fact that you have to know and be concentrated on composition, poses, light, distractions, etc...
Especially if you have a non cooperative person in front of you, like the groom was. He hated to be in the center of attention, and therefore I had a really hard time convincing him to pose. Wedding photographers: thumbs up! ;)
And of course, I wish my sister and her husband all the happiness in the world. :)

Besides that, I didn't get to shoot as much as I wanted lately, also I'm far behind all the comments, devwatch and journals on my DA page, but I'll catch up to it somehow in the following days.

And last but not least - I have a new lens. A monster lens! :D It's a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS - a very sharp, fast, big and heavy piece of equipment, but I'm happy as a child!
Ok, my photo bag is suffering now and I suffer with it, but when I see the results, I don't mind carrying an extra 1.5 kilos around. As I was lacking good telephoto lens ever since I bought a full frame camera, Canon 70-200 lens was a logical choice to start from, and I managed to spare some extra money last few months to buy f/2.8 instead of f/4 lens.
I hope to make many good photos with it in the future. :) :)

Next destination: island Mljet

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 29, 2009, 3:52 PM
Yes, yes, I'm traveling again. :) :)  This time the destination is not abroad. It's one of the most beautiful Croatian islands: Mljet. It is located in south Dalmatia, facing open sea and Italy. We have about 3 hours of drive to peninsula Peljesac and then transfer to Mljet by ferry.
Part of the Mljet is a National park with two salt lakes, the nature is untouched, 72% is forest, therefore, the island itself is pretty wild.

Here is a nice quote I've found on the internet:
Mljet, this highly forested paradise is origin to many stories and legends. The stories about Odyssey and Apostle Paul, as well as stories of Benedictine monks and the Mediterranean Seal, they all take place here, on this amazing island only 30 km (15 miles) of Dubrovnik.

I'll stay there for a week, swimming, sunbathing, eating seafood and shooting. Who could wish for more? :D :D

So, see you next week and I'll miss you all!

Need some help

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 17, 2009, 11:43 AM
I have noticed a problem with viewing my images in browser....

When I open some of my photos, I see a huge difference in colors between normal view and full view of each photo.
In full view the colors are too saturated and changed, but the normal view (the one generated by Deviant Art when submitting) has normal colors. I've checked, and the color space of the photo is sRGB, as it should be.
I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser, and I've found out it has some problem. I've tried with Internet explorer and it works fine, the colors are ok there in both views.

What should I do with the Firefox? It's the 3.5 version, I haven't changed any settings. Any of you had similar problem, maybe? If you know the solution, I'd be grateful, cause I wouldn't like to have to google it two days and waste too much time on it and still not find the solution.

Also, I haven't changed my workflow, so it's not a problem either.

Maybe the problem is my new Toshiba notebook...

Thank you on any useful advice.

Again, I'm going to Vienna. I've been there two months ago, and now it's time again. It's just calling me

Ok, this time the company will be even better and more pleasant, and as I'm going with a person who is, besides everything else, a photographer too, I hope to have AT LEAST ONE usable nature, city, or street photo. Or any kind of photos except snapshots taken while running to catch my friends who don't see the purpose of spending two hours in a 20 square meters area, trying to catch the right sky, the best moment or perspective :D

Therefore, I'm looking forward to shooting some night skylines of the Vienna's Uno City, or a sunset panorama from the 160m tall Donau tower. Yes, I'm afraid of heights but this is stronger than my fear. Much stronger.

So, I wish you all to have a pleasant week(end), I wish you good light and see you in a week!

Some thoughts and features

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 15, 2009, 11:13 AM
Hey people,
I hope you're all doing ok.

It's been some time since my last journal, so I guess it's time for an update.

- I have been lacking inspiration lately. Very much. I go out shooting every weekend (during week I have to work), but simply don't know what to do with the photos. I come home with 300-400 shots, and don't know which one to pick - one second I like something, next second I hate it. There are so many raw photos worth processing and submitting laying hidden on my hard drive. Waiting... Either I'm too picky, or a lousy photographer :D  But when I see so many stunning work on the site, my self esteem drops pretty low. I don't know if you ever had any similar stage of your ' photographer life', but I simply cannot make up my mind. Hopefully this is only temporary stage. I'm an optimist!

- I have been participating in Flower contest of Close-ups club…, and my photo 'Orange' won the second place. I'm really proud of it since it's the first contest on DA I've participated in. Thanks to all of you who have voted for me and congratulations to the winner. This is the photo:

Orange sun by Lidija-Lolic

- I need to buy some wide and telephoto lens for my camera. I have Canon EOD 5D MarkII. Could any of you recommend what is best to buy (those of you who use Canon system) if you have any experience with them? For the wide angle I've been considering Canon 17-40 f/4 L and 16-35 f/2.8 L II, or the ultra wide Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM lens. Any suggestions?

- Regarding telephoto lens I'm considering Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM. The first one is sharper, but it is still pretty 'short' on the full frame body. Any suggestions for these, perhaps? Thanks!
I think I'll make polls out of these questions :D

- I have promised I will be featuring winners of the Daytime cityscapes contest that took place in the Cityscapes-club… and finished in May. Since the note about it came very late, only few days ago, I'm featuring them now. So let's see who has won this one:

What's going on with DA again?

Journal Entry: Sun May 17, 2009, 12:50 PM
I'm having troubles loading the page again. It started some 10 days ago, I barely ever can see anything but the text on the page - it is not usable at all, most of the days. I cannot browse through art, see deviations of the artists I watch, or see any other icons and thumbs. It's really frustrating...

Is it only me, or you are having troubles too?
