I know this is a painting, but it's very sculptural in the way it's done, with the layers of colour, almost building the face, and for that reason i love it.

Beautifull! I love the smooth but defined brushstrokes and esspecially the occasional blue in the skin tone. The eyes and mouth are wonderful, very expressive! And i think the background works well with the hair and the rest of the painting. Nice work!

the colors in this are perfect
the technique and precision is amazing
but what i really love about this painting is the story behind the eyes
he isn't smiling but his eyes are, and they carry the mischevity of a young boy
great work!!!

This is... just beautiful... there is so much character in the face, even though there isn't any sort of obvious emotion... I love how you managed to use so many colours that wouldn't be expected (e.g. green) in the face and hair and yet it still looks completely realistic, perhaps even more so than if they weren't there.

Favourite

As a point of random interest, is his full name Vincent? (I love that name)

thank you for your nice comments. I like a lot of your work too, and yes, his full given name is Vincent and it is from a black and white photo of my husband when he was a boy.

So you came up with the colours yourself? I like to think of how the people in black and white photos were probably brightly coloured when they were photographed.

Thanks :) (And vincent is a great name by the way...)

i love the use of color in the skin. so many people are really afraid to jump in their with bright colors, and as your work demonstrates, it really does pay off.

What could I say about this but what is already said. There seems to be a hint of mischeif in the eyes. Great capture. Thanks for sharing. :)

that absolutely amazing, i love the colours and the skin tones - how on earth do you do that with acrylics?

At the risk of sounding mushy already, I gotta say that that your comment meant a lot to me since I admire your work. You're asking me how I get color like that with acrylic, when you make paintings like those two great self portraits (among others)! So thanks!

Thanks for the compliments. It's funny to me how that painting of my husband when he was a boy (done from an old black and white photograph) is the one that gets the most comments by far. But I'm glad you like it.
