Nym - World Map

I have been very quiet for most of this last year, and I haven't been uploading anything particularly new for a lot of it. This was because I have been very busy reworking my entire Third Era project (again), and it's been my largest revamp yet. For the majority of the year, I have been redrawing the world map and its continents from scratch. The above map is considerably scaled down, as the full size (but non-ready) world map has a resolution of 12720x9000 pixels. This map is a lot less detailed than the last one, but that's intentional as I'm not ready to share the detailed maps of most of the continents.

My redesigning didn't just entail having to rework a lot of my older maps, but also rewriting almost all of the lore and adjusting the website, so I've been moderately busy doing that whenever I had the time to do so. I seem to do a complete make-over of my projects every few years between, but every time I do so I feel that I am getting closer to the definitive iteration I'm looking for. I'm hoping that this version of my project will be the general last of its magnitude, and I'm quite happy with how it's beginning to shape up.

Among many things I've renamed the world and project, added and removed certain races, implemented several new cultures and nations, and fixed around with not just the planet's landscapes, but the universal landscape as well. Various deistic beings are now more fleshed out, as are the diverse laws on magic and the world. The old lore is, for now, still available (www.originworlds.com/third-era), but I won't be updating it anymore.

You can read all the available new changes and lore by clicking the link below. It will for now be mostly only text, as I haven't had the time yet to draw and implement any illustrations, or set up all the different pages in consistent, easy-to-read formats. Hopefully I'll get around to it soon.

Good thing I saved the old one. This is good but not much use for campaigning.

Maaan, there are sooo many similarities between our two projects. I've been working on mine for about the same period of time and have added more and more things to it, gradually. But the more I look at yours, the more they fit together... as in... your project looks like mine but about 7000 years in the past.

Kyndar is technically still there, it's just moved to the southern pole, and is part of the Cradle of the World. It's also admittedly become less hospitable than in the old version. The large landmass is called Kyndar, but people will more commonly just refer to it all as the Cradle of the World.

Cool map with a neat texture that makes it look old and well-used. The continents being far away from each other gives an impression of there being some very different cultures living far away from each other.

I get a feeling that the central landmasses could be home to a sea-faring culture, since they have many islands around?

Thanks!

Most of the nations in the central continents are very heavily focused on sea-faring traditions, although in their earlier days they were more occupied with each other rather than the rest of the world. Some are more naval-focused than others, especially since a few centuries ago, when the central nations began to expand to other continents and established distant colonies throughout the world.

I am really amazed by this map. I love when people create things like these and show up the world :D don't abandon it!

Thanks! This project is a casual hobby of mine, and I've been playing around with it for probably over a decade, so I won't be abandoning it anytime soon, although updates will most likely be slow.

I'm surprised (and a little disappointed) that you decided to overhaul the design of your entire world. I liked the old map better because it was far more detailed. That aside, this one looks pretty cool. Hope that you'll come out with more stuff in the future.

Yeah, the new world map is far too large for any conventional hosting, so I had to make the scaled-down version above. Instead I'm planning on releasing the other full-size continents as their own maps, where the detail will be the same as the old map, or possibly more detailed. I'm also taking more time going through the continents' regions, since on the old map I mostly made up the toponyms and such on the spot, instead of considering their identity and features.

Thanks!

I love this map, I'm currently working on my own "Earth" map for my sci-fi fantasy setting. It's less detailed and going slowly, but seeing other peoples work makes me exited to do my best.
Have fun worldbuilding!

Thanks! From my experience, if it goes slowly then it's going in the right direction, so keep at it!
