To add into the hype around the 25th Anniversary of Les Misérables, the musical's producer Cameron Mackintosh has announced that a movie version of the musical is in the works.

Here's how he puts it in an article at Broadwayworld.com:
"No film could have been as successful as Les Miserables has been on stage. And now, after 25 years, it seems a very good time to do it. We'll be working with a screenplay writer over the next few months and hopefully if all that comes together, we will find a great director and start."

Unfortunately I've some doubts about this. I'd like to recommend not getting too excited about this.
With little googling I already found out he has announced a Les Mis movie in 2009 (with Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman in the main roles, apparently) and in 2005, and there even was a mention of a Les Mis movie ad campaign in 1991.
Not to mention that the confirmation Mackintosh gives here is more than a little bit vague, with its "hopefully" and "if all that comes together"...

But if this actually proves to be true... Yay!
Who would you like to see in the roles and which director would you pick for this?

I think that they really need to get unknowns for the parts, or scour Broadway.

I'd like to see Lea Michele as Eponine though.
