Someday
Someday someone will want to spend hours on end in laughter
Someday someone will want to feel the waves crashing around us
And taste the salt of the sea on my lips
Someday long fingers will reach out and find me
Someday the hand will not be forced
And the pull will be as irresistible as gravity
Someday someone will understand
Someday regret will wither on the vine
And the endless ache will disperse and shatter in the crisp, midnight air
Someday someone will find me worthy of flowers.

Molly Jones: Chapter 8 Mothers and Daughters
Molly and Morrigan reached the top of the stair well and found themselves in a hallway with two doors to the left, one in the center, and finally one to the right. Walking slowly, Molly stopped just outside of the first door to her left. Elf ears being what they were, she could faintly hear the soft sound of water, possibly in a tub. This was Zevran’s door. She knocked slightly; hearing nothing she then kneeled and peered into the keyhole.
The Witch raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing, you little perv?”
“Shuddup, Morrigan. I’m trying to hear.”
“While peering through the keyhole? Last time I checked people heard with their ears, not eyes.”
“I heard something break.”
Morrigan nodded. “I did too. But, it’s more likely than not that was the result of too much drink and heavy feet.”
“You’re probably right.”  Molly said this, but still tried the door. It was locked. “Alright, let

They walked out of the Tower’s disarray into a clear night with a beautiful, dusky sky. Molly glanced to her right; there she spotted several benches facing out to Lake Calenhad. She motioned for the group to join her. Molly took her seat and Zevran sidled in closely next to her.
“Molly, why are we stopping here?” Alistair asked. “My tummy is rumbling. I haven’t eaten since yesterday.”
The elf shot her Warden counterpart a lethal glance. “I told you we have to wait for Wynne.”
“What do you mean, Molly? Doesn’t she live here?”
Morrigan let out an exasperated moan. “What Jones means is that preachy old schoolmarm has taken it upon herself to come with us.”
“Oh, Morrigan, can you try to find it in your tiny shrunken heart to be nice?” Molly asked, though it might as well have been a

She woke to a cold, marble floor and a sick feeling in her stomach. Rising slowly from the ground, she looked up and realized that she was in some sort of marble palace. At every angle there were turrets and towers, brightly festooned by colorful banners and flags. It was a place out of a dream; the kind of dream that all little girls have of castles and heroes; it would have been beautiful had there not been a sickly, yellowing air to the place. Molly stood and then looked straight ahead. Standing before her was the man who started it all.
“Duncan?” she asked.
“Who else would I be, Molly?”
“But you’re dead,” she answered spitefully. And then she thought on it. If she could see him…“Wait, does that mean I’m dead too?”
“Not quite, though,

Gah!" Julan shouted. Cold water in the face first thing in the morning left Julan feeling none too pleased. Tough. He staggered up and said, "Oh, I'm so tired all of sudden….maybe I should go to sleep. Don't worry about me, just leave me here and go on without me."
My rage boiled over at this point. I had told him previously we had an important (and very lucrative) job to do. "I'm going to make a few stops, but you better be up and ready to go or you can go without a trainer."
"Mephala, Annika! What's gotten in to you?"
"Maybe you ask Shani!" I said slamming the door. I left to see Hasphat, but really I would have made any excuse to leave. I was tired of the smell of alcohol that was wafting off his body. That scent brought back too much. I also needed to get ou

From the golden shores of Ascadian Isles, I decided to journey down to Vivec, not to see the great city of Vvardenfell, but to take a boat.  Erica, who was my partner then subsequent cell mate when I resided in Anvil, swore that if she ever got out she would make her way home, back to Dagon Fel. Out of curiosity, and boredom with Nels, I decided to take a chance and see if she actually made it there. I also was looking for any way to put off the inevitable--Cosades.
The trip to was long and expensive, involving five boat transfers and an unpleasant stay in Khuul--thanks gods no lice. Upon reaching Dagon Fel, a small spit of a town with a few ruins surrounding it, I searched for Erica. Turns out she did make it back and was the proprietor, or actually one

Molly Jones: Chapter 5 A Gilded Cage
This Chapter is dedicated to my dear friend Laurie Mason who last month lost her long battle with the taint (i.e.cancer).

Fire rose high in the sky, brightly illuminating a star-filled night. From the boat, Molly could hear the shrieks of men and women coming from the Circle’s tower.  For a moment, all of them watched in a solemn silence from the dock until the quiet was broken by involuntary gasps as they heard the piercing scream of a woman who was falling out of the high tower to her certain death.
“Maybe now is not the time to approach these mages,” Zevran said. “I think we should come back…later, when the mages aren’t so…vertical. Perhaps when the flying lessons are done.”
“No, Zev,” Molly said. “We gotta go in there. We need them. But first I need to figure out who is going in.”

“This will not be easy,” Alistair said while peering down the long, narrow gangplank that led to the Arl’s barge. The barge, while perfect for a day on the lake, was proving most challenging in that no one could figure out how to get the crippled Qunari aboard. Looking back at Molly, he stated, “I don’t see how we’re going to get him on deck.”
“I don’t know why we’re taking him at all,” countered Morrigan, as she dropped the heavy leg she was holding. “We should have left him on the side of the road.”
“Morrigan!” Leliana shouted. “Sometimes I feel you should have had your tongue cut out at birth! Of course, we could not leave him on the road; he is badly hurt.”

Dead Air

Tue Feb 27, 2018, 3:58 PM
So things have been a little difficult for me. I have a lot going on in my personal life. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it shit and we are definitely on a 3 roll of toilet paper downturn.

Also, this flu stateside is no joke. I think I have been sick for like three months. I can't remember the last time I actually felt good physically or emotionally.

It's very hard for me to write a love story right now. Barnes and Noble has less angst in their romance aisle than what's in my life currently.

I honestly want to start writing again. I just don't have it in me now.

So there you have it...or if you're waiting on an update you don't.  Have it that is.

Bah!

What I Am Thankful For

Fri Dec 8, 2017, 10:42 PM
Okay everyone. Now that we have had a chance to look over the Collaboration Contest Rules, I thought I would present the group with the annual What I Am Thankful For feature.

For those of you just joining the Bards College, here is a link to the Collaboration Contest Rules. They will also be placed in the box below this this feature. Also, below this feature please tell me what you are looking for as far a writer or artist goes.

Collaboration Contest RulesCollaboration Contest Theme: In Eyes of The Bad Guy.
The story can be about the following:
Origin story of a villain.
A turning point in a villain's life.
The moment the villain changed his/her tune (Redemption).
A day in the life of a villain doing dastardly things.

On the Contest:

Our newest members maybe asking: What the heck is a Collaboration Contest? Well, it's when at least two people get together and come up with a story and illustration. Usually one person writes the story and one person illustrates, though as this is a collaboration, both parties could work on the story and art. It just has to be at least two people.
For those of you who are uncomfortable with working with a partner, The Bards Spring/Summer contest is a single entry.
PLEASE READ THE RULES.

Must be a Member  of the Bards College to participate.
Each piece must contain a written element and artistic element. Basically an illustrated story. This is a fanfic

Now, on to our feature. This year I had the luck to interview :iconzakobattledroid: and :iconpatrisska:

:iconzakobattledroid:

I came across ZakoBattledroid's work a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. Interesting characters, descriptive language, and powerful dialogue is what makes the Scorpions and Skeletons series so damn enjoyable.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for about a decade now but I didn’t start posting any written works online until June of 2009. I started writing later in life. What really pushed me was university. I ended up writing a lot of dry, boring academic papers for four years. I didn’t really care for that, but I discovered that I loved to write fictional stories. I had so many fun ideas swirling around in my head for so long and it felt great to bring them to life in written form.

What is your process for putting ideas together and coming up with a story?

Usually it starts with the question: What would I like to read? There are a lot of great stories out there but I always seem to gravitate to obscure or weird things. Like necromancers or scorpion monster girls or robotic foot soldiers. Since I write fanfiction, I do a lot of research on the fictional universe that the story will take place in. Decide what and who my characters are and their own perspective of how they see the universe that they’re in. And it usually flows from there. With a story like Scorpions and Skeletons I have a rough outline provided for me that is the game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. But then there’s so many different ways a story could branch off even from there. Do the characters head for the ruins of Vilverin straight ahead of them when they exist the Imperial sewers or turn around and try to enter the city? Do they forsake the main quest and join the Mage’s Guild? Or perhaps they become members of the Fighter’s Guild. And I can go beyond the narrow script of the game and can branch off into a different direction. Perhaps they join the Blackwood Company or the necromancers instead of the Fighter’s Guild or Mage’s Guild. I try to put myself in the shoes of the character in order to understand what they might do in a given situation based on who they are. I usually take a lot of notes and have a basic outline finished before I start to write the story. I try to allow myself some wiggle room within the story in case I want to change things as I go based on new ideas that come to me as I write or from constructive criticism or thoughtful comments from readers. It’s always nice to get a fresh or different perspective from others.

As you know I am a huge fan of Jak and Clare, what was your inspiration for that piece?

Scorpions and Skeletons is just how I wish I could play Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It’s basically something that has been bouncing around in my head ever since Oblivion was released and it’s taken me some time to actually do anything about it. I never had a computer that could run the game so I’ve been stuck with the vanilla Xbox version for years. I always wished there were Scorpion Daedra in the game, and of course I always wanted to play as a necromancer. I tend to like weird and different things. Instead of just killing every necromancer you cross, what if you had a follower that was one? Necromancy is legal within the Empire after all. They can’t all be bad. A story featuring two characters that weren’t the standard heroes you’d expect to find in a fantasy story. That was the basic attitude. I originally created Jak and Clare based on how I thought a necromancer and a Daedra might be during the time of the Oblivion Crisis. And considering the politics of the Mage’s Guild and the taboo often associated with Daedra, I figured these two characters would likely be outcasts. And if one is a social reject one tends to be very lonely and that’s something I can relate to. I can see parts of myself and another person I knew in these two characters. More than I originally intended. Not beat for beat, because I’m obviously not a Scorpion Daedra nor am I an alcoholic with magical powers. But a lot of the interactions and dynamic between Jak and Clare are based on my own personal experiences with another individual who broke my heart and left me to rot. I actually started posting the story right around the time she ditched me and some things just from my personal life bled off into the story. But it worked so I went with it. It probably helped a lot that we were both big Elder Scrolls fans and would speak in Oblivion quotes and make little jokes about the game’s limitations and whatnot.

What are the biggest obstacles you face as far as writing goes?

I’d say my absolute biggest obstacle is my depression. It’s hard to get anything started and it’s difficult to focus my attention. I didn’t always used to be like this. But things happen and I’m just unable to let go of my problems. Other than that, life in general gets in the way. Between going to work, doing chores at home and running errands, I manage to keep myself very busy. That and I also regularly go to the gym, which takes up a lot of my free time. Other than all that, the other major obstacle to writing is my six cats. Anytime I end up writing for any length of time, one of them will usually jump on my desk and sit on the keyboard, demanding attention and cuddles.

Do current events influence your writing?

Not really. I do try to keep current with what’s going on in the world but that’s become incredibly depressing as of late. My writing tends to be more escapism for me. I try to put myself into whatever fantastical setting I’m writing in and focus with what would be issues or events for that particular setting. Not that you can’t find overlap of issues or themes in the real world and whatever fictional one you’ve engrossed yourself in but for me it’s usually not intentional.

Here are some of ZakoBattledroid's stories:

:iconpatrisska:

I discovered Patrisska's pieces two years ago and became absolutely enamored with her work as her use of color, textures, and very natural expressions bring her characters to life.

How long have you been drawing/painting?

Since I could hold a pencil
Drawing has always been a big part of my life. When I was a little girl, I loved going out with my friends to the playground... only to draw on the sand! I completely abandoned drawing when I was 12 years old and came back, I don’t know, 5 years ago? I was doodling in my notebook and my friend encouraged me to start drawing again. That’s pretty much the whole story!

Your work is very impressive. Have you had any formal training?

Thank you! No, I’m a self-taught artist. I had art classes in primary school but that doesn’t count, right?

What is your favorite subject (outside of games) to draw?

I really love drawing people and design some fun costumes for them. I like to combine elements from completely different cultures to create something that looks original, pretty and practical.

What inspires you?

That’s a rather difficult question... I’d say that there are a lot of things that inspire me and they do it in their own, completely different, ways. When I see other people’s art, I feel inspired and experiment with different approach/technique/etc. When I play a game or read a book, I also feel inspired and start drawing a particular scene.

When you draw a particular character from a game, what is it about that character that grabs you?

I usually draw only those characters that I really like; most of my attempts to draw a character to whom I had a rather neutral or negative attitude was rather unsuccessful. I realize that a lot of people who are going to see my fanart haven’t played that particular game, so I always try to show the character’s personality without exaggerating it. I also try to explore the character, to show something that might’ve been ignored or downplayed by the fandom.

What is your process?

First of all, I need to have a more or less clear idea of what I want to paint – there are times when I don’t draw anything serious in weeks just because I’m absolutely terrible at improvising. The next step is looking for and collecting all the reference pictures I can find useful (I use PureRef to organize them, check it out!). Then, after I make sure no one is sitting in my room and watching me draw (I hate it!), I play a nice song (lately I’ve been addicted to Lana del Rey’s Heroin) and I can FINALLY start drawing. I always focus on such things like composition and mood first, so I zoom out at the beginning and gradually zoom in during the whole process. I also open normal-sized window for my drawing – it’s much easier to keep track of the whole painting when I’m working on details. When I’m finished, I never post it on the internet right away! I leave it for one day so I’m able to see all the mistakes with the fresh eyes.

What is your favorite period of art?
7. Romanticism and Modern Art (Pre-Raphaelites, Impressionism, Symbolism, Art Noveau.

Who are your favorite artists?

8. Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Olga Boznańska, Jacek Malczewski, Ilya Repin and Zdzisław Beksiński. I recommend watching The Last Family – a great film about the Beksiński family.

Here are some of Patrisska's works:

Arla by Patrisska  Dandy by Patrisska   Saoirse and Solas by Patrisska     Gold by Patrisska  Nisa Tarot Card by Patrisska

I am thankful for all of you! Please don't forget to tell me what you need for the Bard's College Collaboration Project in the comments section

Collaboration Contest Rules

Sat Nov 25, 2017, 10:13 PM
Collaboration Contest Theme: In Eyes of The Bad Guy.

Rules:

Must be a Member  of the Bards College to participate.

Each piece must contain a written element and artistic element. Basically an illustrated story. This is a fanfiction contest with accompanying artwork.

As this is a collaboration project there has to be two or more people participating in a group. So find a partner; if you are unable to find a partner, please send me a message and I will do all that I can to find someone you can work with.

You can only collaborate with one group and submit one entry. We just don't want multiple entries from a writer or artist.

Teams can create artwork with a story caption underneath, or a comic, or some other kind of mixed media.

Artwork can be digital, traditional, screenshot, comics, or cosplay. I really am not particular about what it is, as long as it includes a written element to it.

No Word limit--just don't write a freakin book. There is no minimum.

Any game/TV show/Movie Content accepted. Again the contest is focusing on the theme and quality of work.

Grammar, punctuation and spacing count big time. I would use a word processing program or Stash Writer on here. See tutorial: StashWriter Tutorial. Also, there are tons of great tutorials and links on this page if you need help with grammar.

Mature content is welcome, but must be marked.

Each written work must have a link to a wiki about the universe they are writing to. Example: So and so is writing about a person living in Skyrim. www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyri…. Same for Marvel, Dragon Age, Harry Potter, etc.

Judging: There will be three judges. Winners will be picked based off the quality of work and what work best captures the theme. There will also be a viewer’s choice option.

Anyone interested in judging please contact me, or if you want to donate points or prizes to the contest.

Deadline: We got a late start this year so the deadline will reflect that. April 20, 2018. No specific time. You have 4 months and 3 weeks. Use them wisely. Countdown clock is to the left.

Prizes:  We are trying something new. I am willing to give a 3 month Core Membership to the first place winners.  The rest are points. Anyone who wishes to donate prizes such as artwork, etc., just message me. ANY DONATIONS ARE APPRECIATED: I'm looking for artists or writers to provide commissions of either stories or artwork to the winners.

First Place: Free 3 month Core Membership
Second Place: 1000 points
Third Place: 600 points

Viewers Choice: 400 points.

Remember that points are divided between each team member except for the Core Membership.

How to Enter:

Teams can submit to the contest in one of two different ways: They can either put the text and the picture together and submit as a single deviation (and frankly that’s preferable). There's just one deviation to worry about, so there's less confusion about what goes with what.

Two separate entries are fine, as long as both pieces are clearly marked as collaboration, with whom, and have basically the same title. Say you wrote the story and I did the picture. You would upload your story, and I would upload my pic, but they would have similar titles and be clearly marked as a collaboration.

Throughout the contest I will post polls to see if an artist or writer needs a partner. I will also do multiple journal entries looking for the same thing.

Example: Lesliewifeofbath is an artist looking for a writer.

Let me know if you have any questions or wish to donate.

This Contest is a Great Opportunity to showcase your work and skills. Have Fun!

Dad's finally out of the hospital. We have tons of people coming in and out of the home. But things are starting to come together. I am actually back on. I just really wish I could start writing again. I have had so much to deal with in the last three months that it's just sucked the creativity out of me. I still owe you guys that feature and I feel terrible about it.
