A few scientists believe that one can influence the output of a random number generator simply by using powers of thought. I made this game to let anyone test their hypothesis.

A program like this one can only generate PSEUDO random numbers. They are based on electricity peak levels, computer clock, etc. So, they are not really random...

GCP uses special hardware to generate REAL random numbers.

As a programmer you should know that!

My score gets better each time. Maybe I'm warming up or something?

My highest score was 8.322. The lowest and first one was 0.051, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, this is interesting, played around with it for a while.

I would be curious to know if this test was based on REAL random numbers (As can be downloaded in real time by HTTP/Corba or SOAP from random.org) or if you've just used a pseudorandom number generator, possibly a random number generator built into Flash?

It's just that the research you refer to talks about people influencing the generation of true random numbers (i.e. electric breakdown in reverse-biased transistors or diodes, decay of radioisotopes, balls falling through complex systems of pegs.) rather than software random number generators which are purely deterministic. If the second, the test kinda relies on the user breaking your machine's floating point operations. :)

This is very interesting. Maybe my psychic powers are weak? the second deviation always seems to be higher than the first (with the exception of one of them, I think one of 4 tries got me a 0.5..something, I forgot).

I think I'll be hooked on this for a while. ^w^

I really tried it.
When I did it the first time I got something like 0.9 "Decent job"
Then I left the room and let it run by itself. It came up with -0.424
"Go ahead, blame your poor score on the alignment of the planets."
Dose this show that I really did influence it? Maybe, but you can never really tell.

Hey I did pretty well!!! My lowest score was .49 out of three trials, and I scored .59 and my high was .717! I took some other tests which are equally compelling...

I wonder, what does a score of .717 mean???

Hmm... either it just doesn't work, or my psychic powers stink. Either way, it's still entertaining and thought provoking. :+fav:
