In the first step "know what to draw" what program did you use to design the room?

Are you capable of imitating a style if you have a good example?
I'm using Tyranobuilder to make a VN to sell on steam and I need the average amount of Backgrounds (mostly standard school areas with a couple city areas/arcades etc further details will be in the commission.)
the problem is I want the artstyle to be consistent because nothing is more jarring than that especially in a VN.
There will be multiple versions of each BG (especially outdoors) with lighting and coloring changes for morning, evening and night time.
I'm already paying out of pocket for character art for a decent amount and I have a very tiny budget to work with...

Would this work with Photoshop CS5? The shading part.

I don´t know Photoshop CS5 but I´m 100% sure, that the shading part will work the same way (it might be that the menues look a bit different though, since CS5 is only a newer, more enhanced version with more extras)

Yes, the second language in this tutorial is German (just because I´m from Germany and it´s even harder to find such tutorials in German than in English :3).

Does this work on straight perspective, as in looking directly perpendicular to a wall?
Reply
:iconlemur3s:
Lemur3s Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yes, it will also work with a one-point perspective (I think this is the one you are asking for), a three-point perspective or any other perspective you want to use (although one-, two- and three-point perspectives are most commonly used). You just have to draw your sketch during step 2 in the perspective you want to use and then follow the colouring steps like normal.

Oh oh. So the number of vanishing points depends on the perspectuve type? I see. Thanks. :D

Did you use photoshop for the perspective grids?

Thank you!
Unfortunately photoshop doesn´t have a tool for perspective grids (at least as far I know), so I had to create the grid by using the line-tool.

Ooohhh... I've always thought PS has perspective grids that only I have no idea how to access or use.
So most people really have to make the grids themselves manually huh? :0
Thanks for replying! :D

Is it possible to draw a bedroom like this without the perspective lines
Reply
:iconlemur3s:
Lemur3s Featured By Owner Aug 9, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
It would be really difficult to get the perspective right without using a horizon and the vanishing points (unless you´re some kind of genius, but unfortunately I´m not ^^°).
You could probably use a photo to trace the lines, but I really recommend learning to use perspective if you want to draw backgrounds from scratch. It´s not that difficult, trust me! :3

It looks really difficult to me because I get confused easily^^

That's why I would just try to draw the background without the persepctive lines.

Angesichts der vielen Deutschen die sich zu meinem Tutorial verirrt haben, war es scheinbar die richtige Entscheidung, die ganze Sache zweisprachig aufzuziehen (und das obwohl VNs in Deutschland eher unbekannt sind). *freu* :3
