Urbanization by Lemon-Yoghurt Urbanization by Lemon-Yoghurt
Final painting for my nature and culture painting class. The topic was "mapping", either as a process, an actual map, or mapping of the body or something else. I chose mapping as a process through consecutive layers.

I wanted to portray expansion, technological development, urbanization, etc., all in one painting. Basically all lines lead to a metropolis of some sort...

Layers:
-graphite collage drawing of objects and scenery viewed from the Lakeshore West train going east
-wash layer of watercolour (the cloudy background) with yellow, green, orange and pink.
-layers of watercolour line drips; purple and blue
-a constellation map done with permanent black marker
-acrylic spashes of yellow, red, blue and purple
-gouache lines; yellow, pale blue, pale green, red, ultramarine blue and magenta
-finally, relief objects: circuit boards and electronic gizmos, plexi glass arrows and 64 matches

Stretched canvas, 4x6 feet.

Awesome effect.
With the objects there it almost seems like something out of an I Spy book.
