girl from my head. by leinilyu girl from my head. by leinilyu
Practice girl. totally unreferenced but I did get some critique from my wife.

I have to work on my women as they tend to have masculine features. 10 years of drawing mainly hairy muscular men does that to you.

All respect for the judgment of your wife (who, among other things, saw ALL your drawings), but I disagree with her; I think, though she's your wife, it is difficult for a woman to understand what , for a man, is feminine and what is not (the same is true on the opposite side, of course!)
I think the girl of your design is very sweet, cute, and very feminine, but, however, is a matter of taste ... ;-)

Pretty face. Nice, thoughtful expression.

A quick look at your gallery doesn't appear to feature an abundance of excessively masculinized female features. The hyperfeminized features common on female characters on DA can get a bit stale. Still, I appreciate anyone's desire to expand your artistic range.

Speaking of range (in female appearances), while I was training at FLETC way back when, I noticed a well-defined range of feminine forms/features within the student body: the women in the U.S. Marshals looked like they had stepped out of recruiting posters; the women in U.S. Customs looked like college girls next door; the women in the U.S. Capital Police looked stern, but distinctly female; the women in the U.S. Border Patrol could be identified by the higher-waist of their trousers and the relatively longer cut of their hair. (NOT that I wouldn't be happy to have ANY of those well-trained officers by my side when the bad guys are at large and the chips are down. Just observations made by me as callow youth.)

Has a bit of a "Natalie Portman" look to her. Lovely features. I dont think she looks masculine. I like her jaw structure and everything else. Awesome work.

Oh man, I just started a comic too with female protagonist and it took me like a month to get my womenright again after doing primarily male heavy content for a game project for a duration of nearly a year :P

Hey Leinil,

This art is great, but don't change your women too much! They are gorgeous just the way they are. Look like proper superheroes!

hmmmm....I think it's time to combine the beautiful ladies with short hairy dudes. Pitch this to Marvel. Wolverine/Black Widow and Jubilee back together again in some sort of Himalayan mountain/jungle adventure, rescue mission(No Ninjas)

by the way, the illustration looks good. Waiting for some killer sequential s from ya. Keep it going!

Leinly I have been a fan for years when I rough out a certain type of picture or feel the need to draw something hard or with tons of detail im reminded of some of your work . With that being said im in the process of buying a digital art pad and maybe some photoshop ,my big question is to you if you could divuldge is what programs and what type of pad are you useing. I am well aware that your quite busy but if you can help that would be appreciated. Hey and if you want to check out the gallery even better lol thanks again !!!

I've always liked the way you drew women, however this is a fantastic start to try and "soften" them up. Beautiful color choice as well.

it's good man, no prominent brow, or square jaw, lips are full and the eyes are a great shape. the nose looks a little "hook" but otherwise an awesome rendition - with a definite middle eastern feel (the features I think).
