Olorin Arrives by leewlundin Olorin Arrives by leewlundin
I started on this one ages ago. In late September I think...

There was quite a lot to do on it and it has been several weeks and sometimes a month between efforts. I'm not sure I like it, I had so much problem with getting the colours right. So I decided to grade it into this.

Anyway, it is as finished as I can make it.

The painting depicts Olórin (Gandalf) arriving in Middle Earth and being greeted by Círdan the Shipwright (my favourite elf) from whom he'd receive Narya.

Just great!

I love Círdan and I really do respect him (most of all the elves). And he's so rarely drawn.

Thanks :) Yes, I think he is one of my favourite elves. I really enjoyed drawing him

This is stunning. Am I mistaken in thinking this is from the Silmarillion? It was so long ago that I read that, and I honestly thought it was a bit difficult. All those same-sounding names that are barely pronounceable :-)
Anyway! I like this in this tone; it feels like an older sepia-toned photograph, and indeed, the quality is such that it feels like a photo, but at the same time, a great painting. Hard to explain what I mean!
The folds on their robes are awesome.
Great, great job.

Thank you! :) I think that the arrival of the Istari is mentioned mostly in detail in the Unfinished Tales in the chapter "Istari". But it might be mentioned in Silmarillion as well. Silmarillion is quite difficult to read :P One should really like focus on one chapter at a time, because there are so much mentioned in so few pages - lines of family and so on that is very difficult to remember.

This is so cool. I love the way you drew the Grey Havens. And that sky is beautiful.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen one of Tolkien's Elves drawn with a beard before. I like it!

Thanks. Círdan is one of the oldest elves and due to that extreme old age he is able to grow a beard - which is very uncommon for the elves in Tolkien's writings.
