I've always loved the Southern Cross.  Warts and all.  The characters are great, but always had a hard time reconciling Dana's appearance (I fully understand why she doesn't look anything like Max/Miriya)...This is my attmept to put her into context with the rest of the Sagas.  I'll take a swing at a retcon of her uniform, but this is a quick sketch to try and capture a liekness that fits in both worlds, the Mikimoto style made famous in Macross and Southern Cross OS.

Hope you like it!

Why this one is the finest drawings I have ever seen. Dana Sterling. From what I remembered correctly, she is the daughter of Maximillian Sterling and Miriya Parina. A Micronian and a Zentradi. Talk about a war that was fought each other for so long in order to learn the secrets of Protoculture. In such cases, Dana is one of the better known characters of the Robotech franchise. It is a honor to see such an accurate and exquisite art like this. I am looking forward to see more drawings of the most favorite Robotech characters. This is the best.

As much as I like what you've done here, the face doesn't quite sit with me. It's hard to explain why -- in a most simple explanation it just doesn't capture the personality of Dana as the middle sagas art had done so well. Ironically (?) this take is very similar to the current version of the design used by Harmony Gold (vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/r…). Not too discourage it tho -- this clearly is a far better realization than the "adult Dana" look of the comics, and despite not being totally on board with the look it's realized beautifully and as usual your art is astounding. Keep it up and stick around, it's always good to see a few good Robotech fans still contributing to the community.

I like that you are making your own interpretation of Dana. Looking back at your older work you have also improved vastly. Sure the guys on the PB forum would like it too. Oh damn their is a minimal word count. Uh not really much of a person to draw things out. I usually get to the point. Anyways looking forward to more of your stuff. You should do more mecha drawings, Alphas, Betas, VF1's, that sort of thing. Oh would also be cool to see other characters like Rick or Roy, people like that. Man this is high-school English all over again.

And, most importantly, you dialed back on the 80s hair.

LOL!

I'm sorry, man, that's one of the things that got me about Southern cross.  I saw all that 80s hair and I'm thinking "If I'm a Robotech Master, I would arm my bioroid pilots and terminator ground troops with lighters or flame throwers.  One good "Fwoosh" and all those damn micronians heads would ignite...well, almost all of them.

But seriously, awesome job here.

Yeah, the hair...oh my...  Had to fix that.  I always wanted to like Dana's appearance, but just couldn't even in the 1980's first run of the show!

You did a fine job.  One nice thing about the Mikimoto style is that you could say that Dana had Miriya's eyes.  As for her hair...maybe Max was actually blonde and dyed his hair blue--or Miriya was?  It's mentioned in the McKinney novels that the Zentraedi did dye their hair (because of "fads"--Azonia is not a natural blue, for instance).

Yeah, we both know that it was because of the mashup that was Robotech.  But it's possible that Dana's hair was the actual hair color of one of the Sterlings.

Anyhow, again--beautiful work as usual.

Well, it's a pretty good bet that Max was not a natural blue-head, after all...  So he could easily have been blond, or equally easily one or both of Max's parents could have been blond.  Genetic traits can certainly skip a generation.
